vapid jay
#

Yes, that's what I thought, to clearly indicate that it was created with SUNO, even though the lyrics are mine, even so, I'm going to publish instrumental industrial metal right now, so the lyrics don't worry me.

Especially if only instrumental. The metal scene has proven AI hostile

Well, the vast majority of my friends are metal composers and they love what I'm doing, they will be more open-minded people hahaah

#

In any case, industrial metal or synth metal is more synthetic than any other type of metal, so it doesn't worry me, it's as if I had an automatic Fl studio that composes the music for me.

In fact, I'm making music in the style of the soundtrack of the game DOOM, progress metal, synth metal or industrial metal.

Which is more synthetic than natural, haha

prime bronze
#

I think they are most threatened and thus most hostile. If you really think about it, you can create a passable song of synth metal in 10 minutes, which would take weeks from them

#

in 10 min i make 3 song xD

prime bronze

vapid jay

If you think about it, any instrumental song is made in minutes, with the right proms it takes minutes, yesterday I made 10 jazz rock songs in a matter of minutes, each one about 4 minutes long.

I repeated the word minutes a lot, sorry haha

vapid jay
#

No, I have been a designer for more. 15 years old and AI for me is more of a tool than a disadvantage

prime bronze
#

I personally believe in the freedom of expression that Suno and Udio and others bring to everyone. I can't sing or afford any studio time nor bands to play my lyrics. Now I can write lyrics and they are brought alive by ai

#

If some real artist is offended, then be better. I dont care

Not having a dig at Udio, just interesting to see this observation being made. Just like Suno, I expect mileage will vary depending on prompts and a degree of randomness. I've certainly found this with both services in my time using them.

Unsure if the audio has been further compressed or if it's 1:1 the original generation but it sounds a bit like Udio in that I can tell it's an MP3. All the eleven labs demos I thought sounded good. Especially the one that sounded like the kind of music I generally try to make. But I feel I could have cherry picked some Suno results comparable to most of them. But I am looking forward to v4 or news of v4 or something. Pokes with stick c'mon Suno do something personally as a user my preference would be more smaller engine updates with options to use the most recent x number of them. But I don't know how long and how much compute money it takes to train a model if there is any point to making a v3.1, v3.5 before v4. But as a user I'd have voted that if it was a vote.

hoary wind
#

Bear in mind that a new service that is in beta most likely has had "new features" in development for quite some time prior to them being unveiled. For example, I expect trimming and inpainting had already been developed and just weren't ready/accessible at the point where the public beta started.

IMO it's not worth cancelling subscription for a service just because of a shiny new thing being unveiled - might as well make use of what technology is available at the time and switch if/when something better is actually available. But, that's just my opinion.

The decision making process for me is fairly simple:

  1. Don't subscribe to anything just in case something bettter comes along
  2. Subscribe monthly so I can use a service but can leave with minimal losses if I want to or something better comes along
  3. Subscribe yearly and hope something better doesn't come along

(2) seemed the most logical for me, even if it costs a bit more per-year.

Both UIs are dark, the general functionality is the same so it's like how word processors, media players etc. have similar controls. Check Udio's song creation/extension interface, it is completely different to Suno.

The FAQs are likely similar because people have similar questions for this kind of service. The actual content of the FAQ is generally not the same though.

suno: "The availability and scope of copyright protection for content generated (in whole or in part) using artificial intelligence is a complex and dynamic area of law, which is rapidly evolving and varies among countries. We encourage you to consult a qualified attorney to advise you about the latest development and the degree of copyright protection available for the output you generate using Suno. "

strong agate
# sleek sky Tried Udio. Horrid, doesn't even understand genres in the way Suno does - and 32...

I've used Udio pretty extensively, and you can almost work with the 32 second clips effectively, but it takes a lot of creativity. But yes, it's very limiting and seems unnecessary. And every song generated is some muliple of 32 seconds. My biggest frustration with it is trying to get a starting point, that one clip that I like enough to extend to a full song. In Suno, I can get a song that's good enough in 5-6 generations (occasionally 20, if I have something very specific in mind), but Udio consistantly takes me 50 to even 100 generations to get what I want. I do believe the sound quality (stereo, fidelity) of Udio is better, but the SONG quality, what truely matters to me, Suno is the clear winner. I've generated about 40 "keepers" now, songs that I listen to offline and like, and only 4 of those have come from Udio. What I DO like about Udio is the ability to extend before or after your clip, and calling out an intro or outro in that extension. That works well. And recently being able to mark the area to extend (throwing away "junk"). Inpainting sounds nice, but I haven't gotten it to work yet.

For example, I've been operaing on a hunch that the primary issue facing most LLMs and basically all diffusion models atm is effectively overfitting. Essentially since this is an issue that humans face as well, its the whole reason, for example, if you encounter someone who is had eccentric hair and the last name einstein, you're probably more likely to listen to them than someone else.

But if you smooth out the "overfit" tokenization of Frankie Einstein by explaining that he's a chronically underemployed drunkard racist who hasn't paid child support in 10 years, suddenly the overfitting is less relevant.

So, basically it occured to me that the whole reason fooocus' method is so highly effective has to do with it loading up the model with tokens that diffuse (haha) the errors it is making due to massive overfitting.

#

In particular on data that it simply cannot contextualize, in the case of an image model, without being multi modal

#

like, they can generalize quite well

#

but the big mistake was feeding them a whole ton of title data and artist names, and not thinking that would have an impact, semantically, on the model's perception of words or concept attached to these titles

#

And I applied the same to LLMs, and basically got Claude to recursively improve its own context window in order to take an instruction set for an LLM as an input and modify it to be more resistant to the biases/overfitting in particular tokens/semantics.

#

In any case, I was then able to apply it to have it produce an instruction set that is of a high quality and does a decent job of priming other LLMs to take SDXL inputs and output a diversified version of it that increases prompt adherence massively

#

Which I had it produce and, again, increases adherence to the point where I can, on most models, increase the CFG to 30 without having artifacting

#

Which interestingly, produces highly consistent images

#

case in point, this is CFG 30 on checkpoint zavy chroma v7

#

Now, yes, its overstylized

#

but its coherent and hasn't degraded

but like, at cfg 30, that's absurd

#

as a point of comparison, here is ONE of the multiprompts with the others removed

how do you usually go about writing the prompts though?

#

yours seem kind of complex

wise zealot

i use to use ai

#

but as i started creating

#

kept repeating the same shit

#

so eventually i just stopped

#

and i became so picky with tones flow sound clarity

#

but it just sounds so much better if u control the sound as u go

#

i tried making a different style last night

#

"House" edm

#

i was low on credits so i was worried i might not finish

marble thicket
#

oh okay

wise zealot
#

cause when u use lyrics for songs u eat so much more credits

marble thicket
wise zealot
#

i extend after every 2 lines of lyrics

marble thicket
#

oh!!! really?

wise zealot
#

so that i can control the tone and make sure the lyrics fit

#

it doesnt sound robotic or feels like the singer is forcing

#

the pitch

#

for words

marble thicket
#

so you just write 2 lines everytime?

wise zealot
#

most of the times

#

sometimes i get lucky and 4 lines fit well sometimes

#

usually its 2 at a time

#

Stained Memories

#

was the song i extended the most

wise zealot
#

many have been dming me saying "maybe in another life"

marble thicket
#

do you keep same style when extending?

wise zealot
#

usually does

#

or atleast the main melody

marble thicket
#

so you just extend and don't change anything until the lyrics get fixed?

#

that's such a good idea

wise zealot
#

until the vocals are clean

A musical producer has shared an opinion in the Udio discord that (quote) “SUNO is a toy for the for common user, which is not a competitor or a threat to musicians and the music industry. But the UDIO is a different beast indeed... Quality of generation, flexibility, a lot of parameters, possibilities of UDIO fascinate and frighten at the same time.”

Would you agree? Here's the link: https://discord.com/channels/1211680535286648843/1239268816333308086

# maiden hornet A musical producer has shared an opinion in the Udio discord that (quote) “SUNO ...

Haven't read it, just going by the part you've quoted... I find Suno is really good at coming up with memorable pieces of music, even if the audio quality is not that great. So I can see it being used for ideas. By itself, no, I don't think it's a threat, but existing musicians and professionals in the music industry might use it to make their jobs easier (generate a template for a catchy piece of music.)

maiden hornet
#

My opinion (also quoting from that thread): "I could definitely generate much more conventionally meaningful songs with Suno than Udio. Udio is great for experimentations, so I'm leaving it for experimental genres (think Vivaldi throat singing big beat), to explore new frontiers in sound and songwriting, while keeping Suno for the more generally accepted genres.

To my ear, (my) music made with Suno sounds like actual well-produced human music that was then purposely downgraded (for whatever reason) — while music made with Udio sounds like an alien trying too much too look like a human.

I blame (or rather attribute) it to the difference in technologies: Udio has diffusion while Suno has transformers. As a result, Udio has much better spectral fidelity (hence very few artifacts), but worse temporal fidelity (hence the sounds of drums are almost always kind of hissing)"

hoary wind
#

Yeah that seems about right. Sound quality doesn't mean much if what you're listening to isn't that interesting 😄

I do get nice stuff from it occasionally, but I have to make an actual effort even to recall what nice clips I've got from it. Even just now I tried to remember how one of them sounded, and ended up recalling a Suno song with a similar vibe.

not to mention the actual model tweakings available (inpainting with metatags for lyrics insertion, remixing, "extending back") etc. etc. If only we could have Suno's model and Udio's product 🙂

Had to try Udio since people here talk about it. But i didnt like it. Couldnt find one song I liked at all. Tried making a song also, didnt go well. At Suno it does not take many clicks before you find a good song. And easy to make to.

So, anyway, VR headset image quality, my verdict:
Pico 3: Even blind people would hate what this looks like. That's how bad it is.
Quest 2, 3, Pico 4: Pretty decent. High resolution. Poor black level. Some things look good.
Quest 1: OLED screens are the future display technology with a contrast ratio of 1:100000000000

Pico 4 and Quest-1 are "decent"

They mostly stayed out of the way

ivory gust
#

pico 3 controllers feels like holding two storks (yes, the bird) in each hand

vale lake

but their tracking algorithm had some annoying edge cases

#

that happened constnatly

ivory gust
#

but there are many aspects to a VR headset. a less known detail might be: what's it like to use as a developer. And that's where quest fails miserably. their incessant urge to suddenly kill your "developer mode" is a constant threat to sanity. and you have to go through what resembles a lengthy japanese tea ceremony (involving full marriage to your smartphone) in order to restore your humble status as a developer.

#

same thing with pico: You're a dev. Go nuts. No questions asked.

#

those chinese people are just more friendly when it comes to this.

#

mark zuckerborg requires you to enable both bluetooth, wifi and geo location on your phone in order to be a developer

#

... a phone which plays no role in actual development

Hmmm, intriguing, but I don't think their servers could handle that much influx of new users lol

Now, devs have a sub, so they could theoretically generate some background music in different moods that could loop, and perhaps even match it to the current mood of the story like how they match images to scenarios.

But I don't think you could have a setup where it's continuously hooked up to Suno to generate new stuff as you write. Too much server strain.

I'm not sure how much of a benefit this is. 90% of tracks generated I listen to for less than 30s because it's just not what I'm looking for. And most tracks that go the full 2 mins go wrong somewhere and you need to extend earlier. I think generating clips 45-60secs is enough to hear an intro/verse'bridge/chorus to know if you like the song, and then extend from there. It's absolutely true that extensions can be inconsistent, but I don't think making the initial generation longer and longer is going to be a game-changer?

#

I guess if most users want a 'complete' song in one hit it makes sense

hoary wind
#

I agree. I can usually gauge the vibe of a generated song fairly quickly and like to have some degree of creative direction (even if those directions are often ignored 😄 ) so I'm happy with the current length of generations.

grim idol
#

Generating 3 or 4 minutes at once isn't something I really care about. Simple Mode could do it now by extending long prompts. But if what it means, actually, is the capability to generate 4 minutes with the entire song in the AI's memory/context that would be a big upgrade. Still not a top priority for me personally, but it would allow for long term musical structures.

GPT-4o seems pretty clearly just overall weaker than regular GPT-4 at pure text interaction, though a lot faster. All the new multimodal direct input/output isn't out yet. So as of the launch, it's just worse. Except in images and (supposedly) it is also better for non-English languages. Pretty underwhelming until the new capabilities actually come out. I guess being fast is nice for the things it works for. I'll have to try something with images and see if it's a step change there.

Then again if GPT-4o s is way faster maybe you could prompt GPT-4o iteratively 3 or 4 times for a typical GPT-4 prompt and the comparison would look better... 🤔

True, and Wayfarer's piece in in 6/4 (or 6/8? Seems subjective to me, but I'm no music theorist).
This is beyond the point though. The possible perception of "The Passage" as "a cover / mashup of Mission Impossible" should be enough for a record company to either send a cease and desist letter, or even sue for "their cut" on any earnings if the piece is monetized.
I'm no lawyer either, but media companies have been known to file rather pointless suits just because they know the defendant, not having the kind of money it would take to litigate against them, will want to settle out of court.

frank panther

You are just making stuff up.

cease and desist (stop infringing on our IP) is a completely different strategy to 'leveraging a lawsuit to settle out of court' (we demand royalties and co-writing credit).

Covers are NOT illegal, that's what licensing is for.

But Suno and this discord are not part of ASCAP and pay no royalties for covers. That's why covers are removed.

You are totally right.
There are indeed different strategies that may be pursued. Which one will be (if any at all) cannot be predicted now IMHO. What's wrong in mentioning more than one possibility?

Is "The Passage" a cover? You mentioned the different time signature; might I infer that you don't think so? Then we agree.

But it may be perceived by the general public as a cover, or can create an implied (if totally incorrect) association with the Mission Impossible theme. I think that's kind of a grey zone as far as the status as cover is concerned. And where there's a grey zone, the richest guy (or company) wins.
That said, I'd like to state again that you are technically 100% correct.
I'm not here to argue, and even less to troll, so I'll leave the last word to you if you care to reply to this. Otherwise, I consider any matter peacefully settled.

taking the same lyrics I made, and attempting to make a song with Suno, and udio, I found the following

for every 10 generations with Suno, I only needed 1 in Udio to get the sound I wanted to get the "click" moment

Suno are developing their next model, it's just not read for us to use yet.

I don't know what happened between v3a and full release but it's just not as good.

I prefer Suno's genre mashups to Udio's but I like some of the more interesting "effect" noises I get on Udio. I also like Suno's structure better, but I like Udio's voice better. Hopefully they both pick up what the other does well, then both improve 🙂

Udio hands down wins when it comes to vocals, there just isn't a contest

I very rarely bother with vocals so I'm not as fussy for that on my own but listening to others vocals, yeah Udio's are really nice. My dad is loving it, he's making all kinds of songs for his "it's not a cult, honey, please stop calling it a cult" meditation stuff.

You know how we all keep saying this is the worst [X] will ever be, well consider that v1 Udio is blowing v3 Suno out of the water. Udio has audio inpainting, can give you a track that isn't a hot mess of hybridized chorus and daftpunk vocalizations. Suno was undeniably the first in Ai music, but they are currently not the best, and I hope when v4 drops they comeback swinging harder than I will smith slapped keven heart

Obviously I can't comment on anything I have heard from you (I didn't find anything), only what I hear from the Udio posts here.

You say that like Udio's songs don't, have you actually made any songs with Udio or are you just Stanning for Suno without having tried both?

I try all the music ai.

(not Meta admittedly)

I also hear about 100 ai songs a day

I use both, I enjoy what I get out of both but for different reasons. Both need a better way to track extends (though I do like Udio's "everything is already stitched" it does mean I have to skip forward just to hear the next bits). # dawn bay im sure this has probably been asked before, but why are there so many birds in ...

the original name for v0-v1 on discord was 'Chirp'...
(the text-to-speech was 'bark')

as Suno migrated to the website, the service was rebranded to just 'Suno' and the name 'Chirp' was softly retired but lingered all over Discord....

last month a database/server migration ended support for the Discord bots, so there is literally no more 'Chirp'..., but some docs, Discord channels, and old-timers still say 'Chirp'.... and the artwork still shows the birds sometimes as a generic fallback when it can't find something in the lyrics to suggest an image prompt

frank panther
# tepid spruce btw what happened to bark?

it's still on github and huggingface.
there was an active Bark Bot on Discord, but it has been removed after the service/database move...

I don't think Suno is planing to bring Bark back as a service.

My friend
EmmaMcGann
from younow. Dose a video about Suno Ai. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2RMoXpleGcM She is a Song writer and a Song Artist. A great person.

Today we're talking about AI generated music and how much it could compete with musicians and songwriters in the future. I think AI can be used productively in the right places, as long as the essence and authenticity of an artists creative spirit isn't compromised in the process. What do you think?

Looks very sus and likely a scam. Especially as it is not live yet.

I assume you (@north bolt) are somehow associated with this service since you just came here to promote said site.

Some items:

  • The ToS seems like you just copied and pasted from other sites (like Suno) and replaced the original source with the company name as some of the terms do not make sense with the service provided and missing some other critical terms.

  • ToS says 'By uploading User Content, you grant Piici a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free license to use, reproduce, modify, publish, and distribute your User Content.'
-- Most of this is understandable for the service but why do they want our permission to modify the content? 🤔

  • Where are the terms relating to the monetization aspect. E.g. currency, the cut the site takes, etc.

  • What happens to the song when the account is terminated? Sounds like you can keep the song and do what you want with it (which was a situation that happened with Output - https://youtu.be/Bb5xRvywLD8 )

This also goes against the solicitation/advertisement rule of the server.

Distros don't like AI-Generated music right now. You can self publish though and get copyrights as protection for your lyrics. Maybe create a brand and go with it. It's harder, but it's kind of necessary right now to push the envelope of AI musicians.

Distrokid actually doesn't like AI-Generated music either.

There is no question from Distrokid about how the music was generated and no field to put that information in.

frosty obsidian

The ToS doesn't include anythinga bout Artificial Intelligence. The tracks of mine are all build out of multiple generated samples, STEM'd and mix and mastered and the lyrics are mine as well. There is quite a bit of human effort in it 😄

hexed spruce

# frosty obsidian in short - NO

In a sense, anything electronic could be considered AI depending on where the invisible line is drawn including auto-tunes, AI is simply software and music on the Internet runs through software, it is just a debate regarding which software is allowed and which isn't, but technically from my perspective, I see similarities and invisible lines and a slippery slope

graceful swan

Don't share publicly until you went through a distributor. Preferably one that offers contentID and equivalents for other stuff so that most of the stuff is blocked automatically or at least monetized for you instead of them

frank panther
west hull
#

I'm distributing with DistroKid and using distrolock but even with all of that it keeps happening. They offer contentId for YouTube but this particular user is releasing my music on streaming like Amazon and Spotify

frank panther
#

Another 'method' is to try to be zen about it and not bother, since the monetary gains are not really worth the extra effort to prevent anyone else from making pennies off your efforts.

frank panther
west hull
#

And I already claimed other uploads of those songs on YouTube and have been taken down, but this user keeps getting away with it

west hull
#

It's just one person rn but I'm genuinely upset that they have been able to release two of my songs to streaming despite all my efforts...

graceful swan
#

It's annoying yes. I have something of the same situation. where one channel seems to be big enough or for what ever reason youtube is like:
"Ah well.. you see they might have put your name in the title and in the video description and straight up copied the lyrics with all the meta tags. And you have linked to the original song that has a creation date earlier than the uploaders... But we are not convinced that it's not the other way around and you are trying to steal the song" and I am like "okay.. I guess I will just feel honored that my song is good enough for others to steal..."

west hull
#

I've been given that same excuse by YouTube so many times... And Spotify too

graceful swan
#

Yea.. I am like "Ah yes I created a full AI startup site just to fudge the timestamp yes yes"

#

At least for me it's just my randomly created first song on the "big U" I did not think it would get that much traction so at first I kinda did not care and did not distribute it first before setting to public. Guess I learned my lesson that even the stuff you just do for fun could gain traction so I will probably go through distributor for everything that is not a straight up meme.
