some days ago i generated this speech test on discord suno to test it... the first thing that happened wnhe i showed it as a example was a totally new person popped up and insulted me... they either got insulted by the first part praising tiktok, or by the second or third that tell the dangers of tiktok... thats when i know art is on a good way... when its abled to polarise instantly ... and suno does that with the right input.

You know Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind?

runic depot
#

It's one of my favorite films of all time, yes

umbral wadi
#

OK, then this should resonate.

Are you also familiar with "Warriors of the Wind" and that whole thing?

runic depot
#

Actually, no

#

I had to google it and... what is this...?

umbral wadi
#

Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind (Japanese: 風の谷のナウシカ, Hepburn: Kaze no Tani no Naushika) is a 1984 Japanese animated post-apocalyptic fantasy film written and directed by Hayao Miyazaki, based on his 1982–94 manga series of the same name. It was produced by Topcraft and distributed by Toei. Joe Hisaishi, in his first collaboration with Miyazak...

#

They butchered it.

#

They completely butchered that film.

#

That's how fans of Heinlein regard what was done to make the Starship Troopers movie.

runic depot
#

Wow, Ghibli got burned hard by "localizers" waaaaaay back in the day!

umbral wadi
#

Don't get me wrong--the book has flaws. I flatout didn't read it for decades after I'd read just about everything else the man wrote. Because I didn't care for the cold opening in the first few chapters before the story flashed back to the beginning of the plot. But if you're a fan of his works watching someone who admitted to having hated everything he wrote take something that they put together, change a few names and pretend it was a parody hurts.

That's all I'm saying. It wasn't adaptive decay--that happens and I expect it. It was butchery.

runic depot
#

I'm not too surprised that I didn't know about this.

#

I'm gonna be honest, I barely remember reading the Starship Troopers book. I read one other Heinlein book, though...

#

The Puppet Masters, that's the one

#

Oh, and Strangers In A Strange Land

#

... Didn't like that one

#

I was a teenager at the time and it struck me as hippy shit aimed at people who needed to be informed of the fact that atheism exists

#

The Puppet Masters was something special, though

#

I should give all of those books another chance. I'm sure I can find them as audiobooks

umbral wadi
#

Hahahaha...in some ways Strangers in a Strange Land created the hippies...

#

The Puppet Masters was a good one. Still need to see if I'm brave enough to even try watching that movie.

runic depot
#

that explains why my mom was so eager to recommend it

umbral wadi
#

lol

#

If you do give Stranger another shot, try to find the unedited version.

runic depot
#

I strongly doubt that I had a censored version

umbral wadi
#

The publisher was so sure it was going to flop that they insisted on a lower word count to try to disuade Heinlein from submitting it. So he went back and basically gutted the book.

runic depot
#

there was plenty of sex in it

#

oh, that kind of 'unedited'

#

Huh.

umbral wadi
#

It went from 220,000-word length down to 160,000 words.

years later, I learned that he probably wrote that book while high as fuck

#

Yeah. His whole story is a trip.

#

Have you ever encountered Spider Robinson? I was a fan of his Crosstime Saloon series.

runic depot
#

umbral wadi
#

I liked Dune. Didn't care for most of the rest of that series. Herbert's White Plague was interesting and more plausible than ever.

runic depot
#

A few years back I went through the entire Dune series as audiobooks because I read them when I was so young, since then I've listened to mostly trash like the Dresden Files

umbral wadi
#

Never got into that one. I enjoyed the one with the Romans.

runic depot
#

and one really good series called "The Bobiverse"

#

kind of pseudo-hard scifi where they do more stealing/referencing scifi ideas than dwelling on the science

umbral wadi

::nods::

runic depot
#

Dune is interesting in that there was clearly a theme of change across the books, with the point being that the face of the universe has changed when you get to the next book

#

aaaaaand then the author croaked, leaving me to theorize about where it was going. And I do have a theory.

#

... I should watch those new Dune movies.

I watched part one. Need to finish it up with part two before I miss the chance to see it in the theater.

# fast hull are you allowed to use the song on social media?

Using your Suno-generated songs on social media is permitted, but there are specific guidelines. If you are a Pro or Premier member of Suno, you have the right to use your songs commercially, which includes sharing them on social media platforms. This right is granted because, as a paying subscriber, you own the songs you create. However, it's essential to adhere to Suno's Terms of Service to ensure your usage complies with their policies. If you are using the free version of Suno, the songs you create are owned by Suno, and you can only use them for non-commercial purposes.

Suno Devs: Lets create a AI music generator, how hard could it be?
Users: Suno can't generate "Kikuyu traditional folk songs". I got a lowland song but they are a highland tribe. It wasn't even in the proper Bantu dialect! Literally useless!

odd hazel
#

one of my favorite pieces of user feedback was "the song was in standard Urdu, not the dialect in my grandfather's village" and I was like, I'm honored that you think we could pull that off, even in theory

long tendon
#

In all fairness, given the way AI services are advertised to the general public and the insane amount of hype that far too many people spam on social media, I would say that it's not unreasonable for an average, non-computer-literate person to have such high expectations

#

I am personally a little bit sick to hear what AI can/will be rather than what it actually is

long tendon
#

Thought experiment: Let's assume for a moment that AI has become AGI and that it can be seamlessly integrated with robotics so that it can do everything humans can if not doing it better.
Then, I ask myself:

  • How would society be shaped by this?
  • What would be the point for humans to exist?
hoary wind
#

I thought a bit about this kind of thing recently, in a general sense... We are trying to create all these different AIs that do different things, when they all converge and do most of the things humans do, but better, weirdly we will have made ourselves technically inferior.

I don't know how this will affect anything, there'll be pros and cons. I don't think it will make a difference to the point of human existence - there isn't really a point other than to exist / life is what we make it. IMO.

long tendon
#

Ye, I get that. The thing makes me think is: (Hypothetically) If any given business can have AIs / Robots that can do the same job if not a better job than their employees can, what incentives will they have to keep them in employment?
What happens to all the people that do low waged jobs?
What incentives are there to keep providing them with an Income?

hoary wind
#

It's a good point. I can see companies being mandated to have humans as a % of their workforce or something like that 😆

Also yes, AI is overhyped. It's impressive in its current state but it's perhaps being used a bit too much to try to solve problems. I've read a few articles now that are clearly written by an AI because they contain nonsense or just ramble on without giving much info, for example.

It's just thoughts that came out hanging around discord servers of these AI services..

Hi guys. I am new on this discord. Me and my 2 friends are preparing an anniversary called « back to back anniversary » and for fun, I created a song with AI. Thing is, the song is great but there is one little thing, the lyrics says « two hearts one melody » and we are three. Everytime I change the lyrics for « three hearts » it changes the song. Is there a way to keep the song and just change two for three ? Thanks. https://app.suno.ai/song/ac27d8db-d3fd-4d19-8349-ea0bc2af7bb4

It's very unpredictable which style words have effects. A lot of interesting and strange words make songs less run of the mill or typical though. City names associated with music like *Berlin * or Ibiza and of course the S-tier style word Liverpool. Be careful with binaural it takes over the rest of your style prompt. field recording is quite interesting. Just a list of random interesting style words I discovered tonight. Other words which seem like they should have a big effect will do nothing detectable. But it means there's probably lots more hidden gems to find.

Hi there @umbral wadi , I'm a moderator over on the LeonardoAi Discord sever, the 3rd largest server. I've been using Suno for a few weeks now, I've made 3 videos using your music and images from Leonardo and plan to make many more. I've been given permission by my manager to approach you about a possible collaboration between our 2 Discord servers. I didn't want to go pinging team members so thought I'd reach out to you first and see if you can talk to the right team member and see if they are interested. One of your guides @viral flame can vouch I'm legit as he is a volunteer moderator on the LeonardoAi Discord server. I really think this could be good for both servers as Suno and Leonardo complement each other and are not in direct competition. Feel free to DM if you'd prefer to continue there of course. Thank you for your time. Here is one of my videos to show what I've been doing. https://youtu.be/lFxeAoirHDY

I'll escalate this message to them by linking it to the Moderator's section with the Team members but I cannot guarantee a response. So I wish you luck and hope to hear of good things after this.

It's difficult because the vocals are already "baked-in" to what Suno generates. I think AI will simultaneously destroy the economy, make money redundant, and make populations redundant.

This would be done through hyper automated systems that are managed by AI under the control of a single person or family.

The system would perform all the tasks that a population is required for, ending the necessity for both an economy and the people of said economy.

People outside the system (probably those not related to the ceo) will be like barbarians in the wild.

People inside the system will be like clans.

If there's multiple systems under the control of multiple clans, you'd have wars waged between them, and maybe some basic trade of rare resources.

LLMs are a little bit more complicated than a prediction algorithm.

Prediction is just the output, but how does an LLM arrive at its predictions? That's where the magic happens, as it were, with LLMs.

There is a level of some sort of comprehension and reason behind how LLMs arrive at their predictions. Atm it's very basic, but as they get larger it won't be.

That's not to anthropomorphise AI however. At the end of the day the AI will "want" to do what it's made for. It's just that how it goes about that task may be something we didn't predict.

If LLMs were purely prediction machines they'd be amazing at mathematics. But they're not.

The reason being the manner in which they arrive at their predictions.

but they're predictive text machines though they're trained off text and they classify words as their grammatical forms and basically learn the syntax as a pattern to replicate

i heard someone say LLM's are sort of fake att his point and definitely nothing like AGI as they claim

The Chinese room argument holds that a digital computer executing a program cannot have a "mind", "understanding", or "consciousness", regardless of how intelligently or human-like the program may make the computer behave. Philosopher John Searle presented the argument in his paper "Minds, Brains, and Programs", published in Behavioral and Brain...

in past times infectious bacterial diseases were a much greater concern, especially without sufficient dietary protein or antibiotics. bacteria require iron to survive and it's often the limiting nutrient, so the human body goes to great lengths to hide iron atoms from them. bleeding reduces the amount of iron in the body, which reduces bacterial growth rate

Well alloys werent anywhere near what we have today, so need to dive into metallurgy and the production/manufaction sector of that. All the plastics? Multiple different sectors but just refining the petroleum alone will be years of challenges.

See, I take that as a major complement to how talented our ancestors were. Idk if any of you guys have had the ability to travel outside the US to somewhere like Europe and see the structures... # meager coral an advanced civilization can retroactively scrub the fossil records?

We have very few actual human fossils from 20,000-13,000 years ago, and of those we have they're from isolated parts of the world.

Ancient civilizations of bronze age capabilities wouldn't show up all around the world if it wasn't a global civilisation. Which at bronze age, it wouldn't be.

We also recently found fossilised human footprints in the Americas which dates back to 21,000 years ago, which was during the height of the ice age and pushes our beliefs on when humans migrated there back 5,000 years.

I can't say there was civilisations before 10,000 years ago. But I won't rule it out.

Additionally, between 15,000-12,000 years ago the Sahara was a rainforest with many of the world's largest lakes and rivers.

If a civilisation lived there, they would've collapsed when the Sahara became a desert.

Egypt claimed to be a colony of Atlantis, and the Sumerians claimed to have been uplifted by a traveller who arrived on their shore by boat.

I don't put any stock in the idea of super advanced civilisations existing before us. Any such civ would've had to have lived millions of years ago as they'd have left evidence in space of their existence.

But there's really no reason I can think of that human civilisation has reset before due to nature disasters.

Or course, we need evidence, and I'll leave that up to archeologists. I'm just sitting here brainstorming realistic possibilities.

#

what if we're aliens

serene pine
#

okay... I'm not usually into the woowoo... and I know how insane I'm about to sound right now... but there was a program set up by the CIA that turned into the Monroe Institute. Anyways, long story short, they trained 6 people on remote viewing. One of these guys, Joe Mcmonogal (sp) did some absolutely wild shit that statistically couldn't be possible unless he was the luckiest man to ever exist. There's a REALLY good interview with him recently that I can link to if you're interested. But anyways, he does these remote viewing sessions completely blind. Coordinates get written down on a note, placed in an envelope. Envelope gets a random number put on it and placed in a different room. He gets in the zone and is told to focus on the envelope with this number and then starts remote viewing. Well one day, he gets hit up by a 3 letter agency (pretty normal at the time). It was something like 6 coordinates. He gets these super odd visions. He sees a pyramid in one but it's empty. His handler tells him to look further in the past until he can see someone. He does, he says they're odd looking people and they're acting funny. They're panicking and have a sense of doom. The other spots are not too far away, massive massive structures, different things about each. He says everything is really odd though and things don't make sense.
Eventually, it's found that the coordinates are for the coordinates on Mars and not even earth. The first coordinate they look at through spacial imagery, is one of the famous "pyramids" on mars.

#

someone's got all the strategies and the game plan already as it's being rolled out slowly to the public and we're way behind

serene pine

He didn't know it at the time, he never even considered it wasn't on earth so he was really confused. But essentially yes, he communicated with an individual in the group. Many of them were asleep in a 'stasis'. They were in a pyramid structure that was supposed to be some kind of defensive thing and were awaiting help. He was remote viewing on Mars but didn't realize it.
