I don't think this is necessarily the "best" song I've created, but it's the one I'm most proud of.
It's about the first athlete I loved as a kid -- an incredible college basketball player who got dragged down by drugs issues.
I originally conceived as a Bob Dylan-style tune like Hurricane (hence the first line), but once I tried a soul/r&b style, it just clicked.
What I'm most proud of is sticking with it to get it right, at least to my own ear. Went through 12 pages worth of variations. And at one point, I thought I had it done, listened through, and realized one of the mid-song extends had cut off an important word. So I had to go back and redo the last five minutes again. Glad I did. The song really turned out how I wanted to, even if it's for an audience of one. ๐
