cover's usually most of my process... tweaking lyrics to fit the gen i like better, cover... i use mashup the same way a lot... i also tend to be pretty slow/lazy at getting songs "out", so i have songs from one or two versions back that cover helps 'get better' (although sometimes it backfires too, cuz i like the rough sound better)

OK, yeah I've run into this before. You can try using Extend from X:XX to try to force it to the end and then cover the result or roll the dice. It can be a bit of a struggle at times.
