I think they CAN be good when you're using the right LLM's and prompting them correctly, but you still have to have a structure and rhyme scheme for the song. I use claude because it's trained more on literature than other LLM's so it's a strong writer. That being said, the work it takes to get AI to write good lyrics is about as much work as just writing the songs yourself. I have to coach claude through every section and edit lines when necessary.
