Exactly, this is the crux of it. Essentially demand has shot up to the stratosphere, and supply is unable to keep up. This trend is not going to reverse any time soon. The demand for AI will continue to increase as more and more people integrate it into their daily lives

Well, to your point, chips are being designed around model architectures. Transformers are well suited to GPUs because of the heavy use of matrix math. But we will likely see other model architectures emerge, and chips that are suited to train and perform inference on them. I'm not sure this will happen in RAM any time soon, but I certainly wouldn't rule it out
