From what I can tell, when you first start playing, the game tries to find another player also starting for the first time, and if it can’t find any it times out and returns you to the title screen without any clear explanation. This sucks, and also feels like a really unreliable method that gates off the full game.
Veteran players should be offered karma hearts to check and play the tutorial so new players can get to the main game faster.

This might be a server connection issue rather than a player connectivity problem. If you are alone during the tutorial, you have the ability to summon a robot that helps you solve the co-operative portions of the tutorial.
