I heard from a few people reporting similar download issues (not within projects though).
They deleted their browser history (ideally, last 7 days), then it worked again.
Worth a try!
My issue is that when downloading the mp3's the files only "show" 16-17 seconds long in Finder on Mac. In Finder, I can listen to the file for longer, even though the timeline stops at a duration of 16-17 sec. I have tried to open the files in tools like QuickTime, Audition and Premiere but there I can only listen to the given duration - not the entire mp3. Please advice!
How are you downloading these files? Are you using the flow: Convert -> Convert (chapter or book) -> Versions -> Download?
Yes. Is there another way?
Some people download by clicking the play bar at the bottom which will only download a single paragraph.
Just to make sure, this is the way I do it!?
Exactly! And you only get 16 seconds of audio?
Could you perhaps shed audio that you get downloaded?
Yes, that is what happens. Have you noticed this as well?
Never. And I've downloaded a ton of books and chapters.
As I see it, the downloaded files become corrupt in some way. Notice that I can listen to the whole audio clip (more than 16 sec), but I can only "see" 16 sec. The latter poses a problem when I import it to Premiere for further work.
What browser are you using? Have you tested with a different one?
Chrome. Give me a sec to test in Safari ! 🧑
Unfortunately, I get the same result in Safari. Frustrating!
Chrome should work better. Could you post the audio you get downloaded? And take a screenshot of the text?
How much text is it?
I use Chrome as my default browser.
Do you want me to upload it here?
Sure, or DM or contact direclty, either is fine.
So here comes the concluding chapter...
But this one is 1:59 seconds.
It repeats.
Is this the direct download? I see that the name is different.
You are right - when I uploaded it to Discord it show 1:59. Have a look at the screeshot - it show 17 sec!?
Probably something with you Mac or iPhone
We have had reports of iOS, macOS, and especially Safari users occasional experience difficulties when accessing the websites and using our services. These issues appear to be more prevalent in older versions of these platforms. If you are experiencing any difficulties, we recommend trying an alternative browser and checking if that solves the problem.
But it is very strange. I don't fully understand it.
Or rather, I don't understand it at all. This issue I've never seen before.
Does this happen with all projects?
Did 05. Conclusions work?
All the files I have downloaded from this project (my first and only so far) have the same problem. So, the file you refer to has it too.
Do you have another device?
I just tried on another Mac - same result!
Do you have anything other than a Mac?
I'm guessing not. Very, very odd. What happens if you try and convert the chapter again and download that, upload it without changing name.
Other than a Mac - like a Windows computer?
Give me a sec to try what you suggest...
Yes, I don't think it will make a difference, but worth a try-
So I made a small change in one of the paragraphs and converted the full chapter again. Downloaded - same result.
Could you send the text and I can try converting it make sure there is nothing wrong with the text.
Are you using a default voice?
Just sent you a DM...
Having exactly the same problem as OP. Audio file seems to be the correct length, but it only replays the same few paragraphs over and over again.
PC?
Mac, Chrome.
@tawny tundra @tall mulch could you try converting again (no need to do any changes) and downloading the new version? It should work now.
@fickle hornet that works. there's some weird audio loss and slight voice distortion in the middle but everything is there.
Ok, that is a different issue. Most likely caused by the voice. Can you try re-generating those sections? I can't be sure of the issue, if you want me to double-check, could you provide the audio? It might help.
Re-generating helps. Thanks
Alright, amazing!
Any chance you can help on our other thread, @fickle hornet ? "It seems like the project has some..."
Sure! Definitely. Thanks for the ping.
Yes - the same 16 sec issue on a Mac - pretty frustrating. Tried three browsers too.
To be clear - this issue only occurs in Projects... when downloading files created in Speech Synthesis the files download in full and are fine.
This is a Projects issue.
And you tried re-converting the project and downloading the latest file?
Yes - three times. I've tried importing the file into Final Cut Pro - the file length is 15.56 seconds.
The issue is real and reproducible by two different people, with two different projects, on two different computers - tested with 3 different - Chrome / Safari / Firefox
And then the file opened in Quicktime / Final Cut Pro - and it is truncated to 15.56 seconds
That said both apps probably use the same underlying QT framework
And if you play it in VLC?
Or post it here? 7.4mb is more than 16 seconds which is odd.
I believe the mp3 file is corrupted by the Projects converter - the file size is 7.4MB
Yes
Okay - it plays in VLC full length
That was a good call thanks - but it still makes the file unusable in the editors we need to move forward
Hmm - with Mac? - it might be that the Quicktime framework is picking up some issue with the formation of the mp3 file
When audio files made in the Speech Synthesizer are downloaded it's fine
I would guess so, but we use pretty standard mp3s. They mono which might cause issues? But I will forward it.
That is a very good point!
We have had issues with macOS and iOS previously.
https://help.elevenlabs.io/hc/en-us/articles/16104020847249-Website-problems-with-Safari-iOS-iPhone-macOS-Mac-
It might be that QT uses metadata to set the play length
Could be. Maybe it only writes the latest chunk as the length in the metadata, not the combined chunk length for a project.
It's a strange one - as a work around I can open in VLC then export as MP4 (H.264+MP3) - then import that into my editor
That works okay
I didn't even know you could convert / save using VLC. Nice! I will forward to engineering and see if we get some info.
Yeah - you can convert - but the files are still not able to be opened in Quicktime. Not sure why - the documents say they could.
But a new twist - the MP3s can be opened in the Music app okay.
Screencap in Music app
Current workaround
The engineering team looked into it. Apparently, this is caused when you have the ACX normalization activated. We are working on a fixed, but for now, if you run into this issue, turn off the ACX normalization or re-convert the audio and it should fix it.
Great. I have that option. I solved it by downloading one paragraph at a time. Then I stitched everything together in Audition.
That is definitely one alternative.
Should we not be using the normalization option until it’s debugged better??
No it seems to be the cause of this issue, so to avoid it, I would recommend not using it. Normalized still works, it just doesn't work with quicktime for some reason.
You can't turn it off in the settings without having to redo the whole project.
i haven't used normalization and I have the same problem !
months later this post
Could you provide the audio file and a bit more information about the issue?
This specific issue above should be resolved.
I can't give you the audio, because the problem is precisely: the system DOES NOT allow you to download the audio!
I wish it were solved and I wasn't suffering from it!
