So I have had a LOT of servers with GPortal going back almost a decade. Mostly the service has been ok.
I have been getting 20 slots servers paid for one year in advance for a while now.
Not too long ago I wanted to setup a server for a game that is only hosted by one provider so I set myself up an account with them. I would have hosted the server on GPortal if I could have.
Anyway... this is the part that is wild to me...
Unless I am missing something, to change from one game to another you have to free up enough slots to add the new game. You cannot turn one of your servers off and remove the slots from it temporarily to be used by a different game you would like to play. This means you have to save the relevant game files from the game server and then remove it to add the game you would like to play, or pay more money to add more slots... even though you would only be using the slots of the new game, while the game you aren't playing is turned off and using NO slots... but still demanding to "use" slots from the gamecloud unless it is deleted.
So... the way this other service works (and I blocked out their name and info in my pics because I am NOT promoting another service...) is they allow you to switch between ANY game they offer at any time on the same cloud.
So i have a 10 slot cloud with them since they are the sole host of the game I wanted to play... and on that same 10 slots I can add as many other games as I want and switch between them just by clicking stop on one server and start on a different one.
This even allows for me to swap between different mod packs for the same game, and swap from PvP to PvE... and it keeps the worlds, stuff you have built, your character progression, everything separate so when you switch you go back to the other server no different than if you had just restarted the server. They also check for mod updates on startup so I don't have to manually update the mods via FTP every time they are updated.
So I am HOPING there is a way to swap between games on my GPortal cloud that I have just been missing out on for all these years... but I cannot find a way to do it.
If there is not a way to do it then maybe it is something that should be considered?
This other hosting provider is the same price as GPortal but the flexibility is a million times greater at the moment... unless I am just dumb and could have been doing this on GPortal the entire time?
Thanks!
