When you both open your games, there should be a version somewhere im the bottom of the screen.
Please tell me which version each of you has.
Then please log into your server webinterface on gportal.com and tell me which version of the game is installed on your server. This should be somewhere on the top of the screen in your webinterface.

As of now, epic does bot seem to have that.
There seems to be a workaround, but I have to wait until gportal staff gets back to me to see if this is safe for you since it would involve third party software.
Are you using any mods on your server? Is crossplay enabled for steam and epic? Please double check.

You could test it by yourself to see if the progress remains when you update the server and your install to the latest version of the game.

Maybe they'll deliver that soon. But to be honest, as long as you both play together with steam and epic, you wouldn't need to use the pre aquatica branch. The only reason to have pre aquatica is to use mods, which you cannot anyway on epic.

It takes several seconds for the browser to really retrieve the status. The version should then appear right behind the server's name.
Just click on status and wait until the memory usage and cpu shows some other number than 0.

Could be either a bad install, hence the installation check, or just bad programming. I myself played ark for 7 years now and Wildcard/Snail Games/Studio Siren never delivered a satisfying product.

Just wait until your download is ready for 360.10 on steam and test it. I would not jump to any conclusion until then.
By the way, while we wait, you could try to contact epic support and see if they might be able to offer a similar beta version of ark like the steam pre aquatica beta version.

Yeah, aquatica discord/Studio Siren released a statement that epic had been updated "by accident" or something like that. The devs of Studio Siren said that they were on it. So unfortunately, nothing we can do about it. Maybe you know a friend who has ark on steam and can share it on steam with your buddy? Otherwise all epic players have to wait to get it fixed by the devs themselves.

The dev team did notice that over the weekend, there was an update pushed to the Epic Games Store that has affected most if not all users on that platform.
The team is actively working on a fix for this with multiple parties as for Epic Games Store, a fix should come soon.
