#Vanilla Minecraft Server using over 10gb of RAM

I started a minecraft server through G-Portal around a week and a half ago. I took a world backup from a realm where about 8 friends and I were playing on and imported it into a 10GB G-Portal server. I switched over to a server because performance started hindering on the realm; which was to be expected, seeing as we had been playing on it for almost a month at this point. Everything was working fine without too many issues other than the occasional lag when everyone was on loading different chunks. However, I noticed that the performance issues have been more frequent and persistent even with only ~3 people on at a time doing their own thing (i.e. building, afking auto farms, etc). I assumed it was because of the amount of farms we have on the server, but whenever they are not in loaded chunks, they do not run, so why is the performance so bad with such little strain, and already over 10GB with no added mods (only client sided mods for each person)?

At the time of writing this post:
5/15 Active Players
CPU usage 2%
RAM 11190 MB

the ram ussage on the website is often not showed right. and dev have been informed. dont know if there is a eta on when that will be fixed. Regarding the lag. even a vanilla singleplayer will lag. the more you build and explore. There are optimisation mods and modpacks that can help make a server less laggy. as well as loader . like paper . purpur and so on. Also some client side modpacks can help on the clients side. same for making sure to allocate more ram to the clients game. most say you sould go for 8 ram and not that much more. as minecraft do not handle it self well. with to much ram. as it will use it for trash and fill it all up before dumping it. giving more lagspikes. Also Some plugins can help lag. as a example no endermen griefing. as endermen that picked up a block . will not despawn. same for any mob that can pick up blocks. But you could also look installing spark on the server. that is a tool to get some information of how things run. how many entities and so on there are ., Also when it comes to villagers and passive animals. make sure not to have to many in one chunk. and make sure to hinder villagers pathfinding. by adding magma blocks infront of them or completely around them. alot of difrent guides on youtube. of what you can do to reduce lag.

#

And also if its version 1.21.4 its laggy. and curently iam playing with some friends on a server i got invite to. that is a beast of a server. but now after 3 weeks. and a good amount of big farms . its become laggy. expecialy if ppl are running some of those farms. that are poorly designed for servers. suchs as Portal based farms. .

#

There are also a few settings that you can do . Set max view distance. to 10. or lower . and simulation-distance between 10 and 15. there is also a plugin that will do this automaticly. when servers mspt and tps is dropping. to also help with lag. and a 10gb server is good for about 10 players. if you are building big. and expecialy if farms are not well optimised . So defo look into some tuturials about that. eksample. composters on top of hopper chains.

Hope some of this info can help you. but yes try and install spark. run profile for 10 minutes. then stop profile. . Also if you could give me info on any plugins you use now if any. and what version of minecraft you are playing. as well as settings. i might be able to help you a bit more. So will keep the tread open. its curently 7:20 AM my time. Also iam not a Gportal staff. but just a Player of mincecraft. that have had a few servers. and now just helping out here in Gportal discord. when ever i can. hense the helper tag to my name

so player data was wiped

and I'm not sure why

did you make a backup before. ?

#

if so look into that folder. for player data. and you sould be able to copy that into the server. and replace the new player data there is .

#

if no backup have been made. then there is sadly not much to be done. exept you could always give them a few of the things they had. gear food.
