#Weapon Ideas?
1 messages · Page 1 of 1 (latest)
I'll throw in a few this time though. How about Brass Knuckles and an MP5A2 (could be the default SMG?).
I'm an stealth fan so I would suggest something like that: Machete, Katana, Bowie and a handmade baseball bat with nails
M1 grand?
Medieval broadsword
Museum level could yield antique weapons from like Egypt or Europe or a special part of me thinks clubbing zombies with dinosaur bones would be neat
Also let's get Loud and crazy with a chainsaw
Knife spears?
This is absolutely something I'm interested to see if it becomes a weapon to craft in ODD.
Machete and Katana I think are coming to ODD. Bowie knife would be cool to see.
Also, isn't the nailed bat already in the game?
yes at level 2 workbench you can craft spiked bats
Oh, perfect then. Didn't reach it!
Chainsaw noise 10/5 ⭐ 😆
Brass Knuckles is a plus!
Chainsaw too since it's Texas but I assume it would be a bad idea since the noise would attract a lot of the zombies
I would like that tool to be embedded in the zombies and to be usable but with little durability to be able to repair it.
what a grass farm is like
Would be a great weapon for a farmer in rural Texas
Also as it is spoken of in 1980 and there is serious agriculture, agricultural tools
In this case it would be like silent weapons
are those from the 80s?
.You could say yes because it is gardening and botany
incoming Botanist survivor!
I would see it as a weapon in this place.
That's a small greenhouse, I imagine there will be larger greenhouses in the EA
And here it could also be at the beginning since I see that there are gardening plants and flowers.
Good eye
Saw blade crafting? Baseball Bat with a circular saw blade. Barbed wire or more melee add ons.
If we're talking about agriculture/gardening, what about the scrub cutter?
Um just gonna throw it in here the AK 47 has been around over 5 years at this point and the 80s where the cold war at its peak could be something we find.
I think the devs will end up including the AK in this game. Both normally and in this form.
Question is how would a soviet weapon end up in the US? Weapons smuggling via cartels from mexico
In terms of the game itself, the cartel might have something to do with it. Maybe we'll see AK's in areas where the cartel resides in or has been to. There's also the possibility that Soviet spy's could have some of them.
Is a video game if we question the little things how do the survivors move all the workbenches so fast?
A recruitable soviet spy or an enemy that we must fight?
They have mules/donkey's behind the scenes.
Just having some more here: M60, 70s Barnett Wildcat, Springfield M1A, Winchester 1892 or Browning Auto 5.
So the Springfield I get but I do wanna point out pik pok is a small team so I am not super stressed if we get specific weapons or just basic generic guns sometimes less is more
the game seems to clearly not be centered around guns, id be satisfied with 1-2 examples of each gun "archetype" like pistol, shotgun, long rifle.
id love to see makeshift ranged weapons though
They confirmed bows and assault rife on roadmap
big yipee
Understandable, though PikPok in their previous 2 Into the Dead titles have made multiple categories for their weapons. So, I'd still like to see at least one of each kind in this game.
this is a vastly different game, i doubt our survivors will be pulling a whole firearms museum out of their pants like James does
But i do hope for some classics to return
Since its before the events of the runner games, maybe weapons that end up in James' hands
To be fair, you could probably have 5 crowbars in your backpack you'd still be able to move and pull out wepaons perfectly fine.
melee weapons sure
But like I said, at least only one of each kind would suffice for me. Not expecting something too expansive beyond that. So far the only ones left to fulfill are SMGs and Special Weapons. So, for the SMG, MP5A2 or Thompson would be good options. And the "Special Weapon" could be the M60.
i didnt mean the difficulty of carrying but rather accessing them
thats reasonable
My main issue is ammo if we get bogged down with there being a dozen different ammo types it makes loot distribution a bitch
Let's stay simple pistols already have both pistol and revolver ammo so let's say we get shotty and rifle rounds to and fit our weapons into those categories
Are these all weapons from the 80s? I mean 1975-1980 sorry I keep forgetting the 80s was just starting during the game. I don't even think the 80s fashion even kicked in, people were probably wearing 70s clothing in 1980.
I'm all for keeping things kind of accurate at least where possible, but that's just my opinion. I'm not from Murica so I can't pretend to know for sure but I doubt there would be any M60s laying around unless there's some military POIs. I don't think we'd see the MP5 in 1980 Texas so if they add an smg maybe thompson or grease gun I guess. I'm assuming rural Texas would have lots of farmers with shotguns? 😛
We need shotguns for sure. It's Texas bruh.
Would be nice if we had some people from the US here give their opinions on it. It would help a lot in regards to what kind of firearms were persent in Texas 1980.
I don't like to assume everything I see on TV is accurate 🤣
The only thing I know about Texas is the TV show Walker Texas Ranger. lol
You're right but come on, its Texas!
The Dev's are from New Zealand, so it would help if people from the US who are going to play the game can help in providing their expertise towards the development process specifically when it comes to having the depiction of weapons inline with 1980 Texas.
Revolvers and single-stack pistols, coach guns and simple pump-action shotguns are to be expected
Magnum Cobra?
Sounds good to me, anymore than that sounds a little excessive tbh, I'm digging the stealth play
Im just firing setting-appropiate gun examples
Someone said something about a mp5 which wouldnt have even been imported to us yet
Yeah it wasn't until the Iranian embassy siege in London that made it famous for the rest of the west and that happened in 1980
I like how this thread quickly devolved into just being guns.
I like everything that's been covered on the melee front, big fan of having lots of farmer tool weapons etc
Hell yeah
what we need is brass knuckles
I also like the genre of "garage blacksmith" weapons like wacky makeshift cleavers and machetes
Hell maybe even polearms. Those are underrepresented in zombie media despite their effectiveness
Definately, I was thinking about making a suggestion for a 'defender' role, craft them a spear and they kill the zombies safely from home and preserve the barricade health.
You could split spear making and maintaining barricades into 2 whole new character ideas
These weapons are from before 1980, yes.
Nice 👍
I 100% am confident the devs did proper research before committing to a game in the 80s
+1
Military presence or areas were expressed as things existing in the roadmap. So maybe we could find M60s and potentially MP5's there (MP5 was introduced to US Military/Special Forces in the year 1980 as far as I researched). Though, I guess the Grease Gun and/or Thompson would work better as a more common smg to find.
having an m60 in this game is wayy too bonkers of an idea
mp5 being in the game make no sense either. Honestly would prefer if the game didnt have any automatic weapons at all.
AR's are already gonna be in the game, so I don't see why we can't have any other automatic weapons. 🤷♂️
Also, with stuff like the M60, we literally are going have stuff like grenades and molotovs in the game (at least that's what I can infer with "explosives" from the roadmap).
Not saying we can't, just that with the gameplay style the game is going for they would be obscenely powerful
it would be fine if any implementation of an automatic rifle was only accessible quite late and/or have significant drawbacks
Being able to just mow down every enemy in a location with ease kills the otherwise tense and atmospheric gameplay
Which the addition of a literal light machinegun would do
And I get that. But at the same time I just feel like this point falls apart when we have all these other radical guns, melees, etc. in the game that we could very well use at any point. Most people are gonna go into this game with the "kill em all" approach and with the amount of weapons and combat options in this game, people are eventually gonna get comfortable with doing so. Somewhat limiting the amount of resources and ammo people can find/craft are good options to help subvert this mentality. And that can be done with the M60. Simply make it a weapon you are unable to craft or make ammo for. You are only able to find the M60 in areas with military presence, by itself and with a limited amount of ammo.
I've already said that I'd expect to see one of each kind of weapon in this game. Speaking in Into the Dead 2 terms, we already have most of these categories fulfilled except for SMGs and Special Weapons. I thought the M60 might be a good fit for this game's "Special Weapon."
But the previous games have little to do with this one
ODD is a prequel to the other 2 titles tho and is still at the end of the day an Into the Dead title. So, I don't see why this game can't remain somewhat faithful to those 2 other games including through weapons.
its in the same universe but set presumably many years after ODD, which would flatout disqualify most weapons featured in ITD2 from appearing
All the guns that have been introduced so far in the game are directly from ITD2 tho?
So far in the game we've got the Defender D9, Hammerhead 357, ARC-4 Guerilla, Justice M32, Predator 308. All from Into the Dead 2.
so yeah, all of which made before 1980 AND they're based on weapons common among civilians. Except the Arc-4.
they make sense to be in ODD
Maybe make it unique I guess, only one M60/LMG with one box of ammo can be found and that's it, can't craft more, can't find more. It's OP but limited use, same concept could follow a powerful melee weapon like a katana, very strong but at some point it's going to get broken by accident (random chance of occurring with every attack).
Some elements of small weapons in the kitchen would have a durability like that of a knife.
What would be most important at the start of the fight would be whatever is within reach. The most powerful firearms would be in a military shelter, but without many bullets or broken weapons.
