Games are best played with a lot of different outcomes and a lot of re-play ability.
I want each recruit able character to have a chance to be hostile with you. It shakes things up and makes the player be wary of each person they encounter as well.
50% chance to be hostile and 50% chance you can recruit them.
It adds another element of surprise and another level of item management.

I think would have more sense if there was a deeper narrative and any kind of interaction between them, but in this case I think it would be a bit confusing, doesn't it? When would if happen? Right in the moment of the recruitment? While you send someone to explore? Just wondering... althought would be a nice random plot twist.

So no terrible terrible idea and I mean that the nicest way I can.

But think about it I am sure the game devs plan to add plenty of npcs to discover both hostile and not plus we don't even know who all the recruits are that said there is another point here is as the game progressed it gets harder and the struggles get more intense and a random chance that survior that you should be able to recruit ends up attacking you and worse killing your current character that's a possible rage quit scenario.

Plenty of people already express that the game is hard we do not need to add a fear that the recruiting process is chance based.

Think about it this way I take Sébastien to the church fight my way up to Rahul then Sébastien gets killed by Rahul leaving me with only one character yeah gotta restart at that point. Because of that chance Rahul just decides to kill you. Nah there is already a hostile npc in the demo more will come we do not need to make the recruitable survivors chance based at least not in the base game maybe in a scenario

But having hostile npcs cause internal strife? Technically sure, but I'd be mad if I come home to a murdered playthrough that I might have spent days, especially due to it being perma death

I definitely agree that having false/potentially hostile allies shouldn't be chance based. These people should have some sort of build-up to possibly being bad apples in our group, whether that be through character interactions, abilities. low needs or any other actions that they perform. The player can decide to kick em out if they want which may or may not have consequences, the likes of which players should at least be hinted to. If player chooses to not take action tho then something bad will happen eventually with the false allies.

Sgt. Hardwick in Hardwick's Trailer. That guy can kill you in three hits (he's got the Makeshift Machete). I went up to him the first time and had his revovler too. Was already near death after two hits so I ran back and had to shoot him.

I thought he would be friendly as either I can trade/interact/recruit him. I should've been cautious as the note that reveals his locations talks about him shooting at the guy who wrote the note from the Old Ballard place.

This might a be problematic situation if recruiting a Survivor has a possibility of them turning hostile, which could be frustrating or just making players skeptical when they try to recruit a Survivor.

The regular hostile npcs from the demo and description about them seems enough to me than adding a possibility of regular survivors just randomly turning on you.

# empty harbor So clumsy a terrifying thought for you so I onow for a fact getting hit by Hardw...
  1. Either charge at him with a melee weapon (suicidal)
  2. Try to run away or take cover (probably risky and would be suicidal)
  3. Have a Pistol or revovler and shoot back.

If that is this case where these survivors we can recruit somehow have a firearm on them them I'm gonna take a gun incase.

I feel like you'd die from 1-2 shots with a gun since the zombies and Sgt. Hardwick died from 1 shot with the pistol or revovler.

Regular hostile survivors with guns on the other is risky whether or not there are zombies nearby.
