#Concerns for the effect of the defender changes

I have read the upcoming changes of what will be tweaked and i have the feeling that your intentions are right, but the solution feels wrong. (Viewing it as a defender)

As stated in the dev-vlog passive defense is too strong. To balance that you nerfed the player hitboxes, but increased how far the tackle goes.
Doesnt that mean i will be punished more if i miss a tackle and therefore opt to play even more passively? While the reward might be worse because im further away from the ball after a tackle?

Currenlty when i tackle someone, there is a good possibility that he might still get the ball or instantly tackle me back. The reward for aggressive defense is not high enough. I would rather sit back, let him make the first move and then abuse his cooldown windows with my own tackle.

My take on defense versus dribblers is that dribblers have a lot more movement options then a defender and defenders have way more punishment for missteps.
In many cases the dribbler fakes one side then wants to go another way. As a defender i need to act like i fall for the bait, so i sidestep into that direction, then sidestep the other way and tackle. Against a good dribbler the tackle will never connect, but his way will be blocked. I am fine with that stalemate. IF i as a defender had an option to follow up. My tackle cooldown after that is way higher than the dribblers dribble cooldown. We then both use both of our sidesteps, but he can push the ball forward, while my tackle still has a cooldown, which would be my counter to his push.
All that while he always has the option to just pass the ball.

I think rather than increasing tackle range, the off-the-ball sidestep range should be increased. This allows me to stay on the dribbler and keep up with his movements and if i missplay i leave an obvious opening. This rewards aggressive defense by beeing able to keep up with their movements. Then i dont have the need to hope he shoots my body. (And to add my opinion from the playmaker/midfielder side of me, getting a pass through a passive defender is incredibly easy).

To add information to myself, i have 550h and am currently in Elite 3000RP. This ofcourse doesnt mean i am a pro, but it means i understand the basics. I am also very open to discuss this take, so if you want to feel free to DM me. We all want the game to always get better.

I don't know if you played the new beta, but reducing auto aim in tackles is massive buff to the defense, bc right now half the time I tackle someone the game corrects my tackles and makes me miss the ball and the defender, but in the beta I played few games and I didn't miss a single tackle. If you are able to read your ops and tackle at the correct time you will get the ball every time(at least in the beta).
But we'll see how the tackles work in the game tomorrow when there's more than 15 players playing and their servers start lagging as per usual.

They made it easier for good defenders to steal the ball and harder to just afk in defensive stance
