#Remove GK picking up passes from team

As the name implies, it really has no place in this game if this game is trying to replicate football much as it can. The back-pass rule was designed in football to prevent what we are experiencing in the game, time wasting.
Yes you can't receive free kicks as punishment but that's easily resolved by the fact you can tackle the keeper without punishment already.
Cause as it stands 3v3 or heck any mode isn't fun if a troll decides to time waste by passing back and forth to goalie. And turning game into less what game intends and more into guard the enemy goalie.

It's not a big mechanical change, just remove pickups on pass.

I'm not only person who agrees that this needs to go

Read all AMA and one relevant topic was how they plan to work on goal parking bus and header spam. Come on, can they seriously not think of just removing the immunity timer. That alone can easily drop the spam making it dangerous to actually pass to goalie if they start that shit cause a player will catch on and mark.

Bump, I think this really needs traction since we have a update coming in two weeks and they won't implement it inbetween updates. So sooner this is realised how simple of a solution it is quicker things can be fixed

My guess is it's in for some good gameplay and mechanical reasons, for instance non-deliberate back passes can be collected (like in real football) which the game would have no means of detecting.

However I was thinking about this problem today. The goalkeeper has a timer when it's in-hand, after which it is dropped. So perhaps that timer could have a refilling mechanic. Say you've held it max time, and someone passes it back to you like 3 seconds later, you've only recuperated 3 seconds of holding time. Or by some factor anyway. That way the core mechanics can stay the same, but it couldn't be abused.

there’d have to be significant changes between teammate last touch interaction refill and opponent touch like an opponent should be punished for allowing a goalkeeper to gain possession no matter what so its timer probably shouldn’t have a refill. but passing between teammates and the gk over and over shouldnt be the crutch that it currently is so as the gk’s timer goes down, maybe having something that lets it recharge at a certain rate over time depending on if it was fully expended or only partially used and then there being a buffer between when it actually starts regenerating if the goalkeeper retain possession instead of passing it away for a certain amount of time

#

like it could be pretty good if implemented properly

Just preventing goalkeeper iframes won't do much unfortunately, this is a problem so fundamental I doubt you can fix it at all, and definitely not with this.

Unfortunately it's the best action to make. Apart from it being a rule breaking action in football, it is only way that can functionally stop this problem. A refill timer sounds good on paper but it really isn't hard to keep a ball away for up to 6 seconds and pass back to keeper.

gk holds onto the ball alot less when its a passback compared to a save or an interception

cyan depot
#

Not the problem, the problem is that 1 it shouldn't exist and 2 if they want 3 seconds is more than enough to troll by not allowing opponents possession

Hey there ! Just to let you know, we are currently iterating on the rules for Goal Keeper invulnerability. Multiple options have been designed and we'll have to test them before we decide on a final version, so release may take some time (sorry for that).

In our game, it is indeed quite hard to accurately define what is a pass back without human observation (like the referee in real football). Is this just a pass ? Because you could pushball and tackle and have enough reach right ? So maybe tackles count as passes ? But imagine your defending your goal against an opponent and a defender tackles their ball, shouldn't you be able to catch it ? Cause if you don't, this opponent would just be able to tackle you on the spot 🤷

So yes, it is not THAT easy to deal with, but we'll get there !
(What would you think of having this refill system you proposed but not based on a timer, based on opponent interaction = you can't catch again until an opponent interacts with the ball)

In regards to pass back and the mess of tackling. How about if it had a detection on last interaction. Say if ball moved on field due toba tackle it could be recognised as such. So X been tackled and Y is now rolling on ground in tackle state, if that makes sense. But if you wanna implemejt the refill system It depends how the refill system would work. If it only counts inside the box it could lead to a meta of shooting outside box to give less time on hold.

Isn't there a way to tell different with how the game registers passes

cloud narwhal
#

for pass backs

#

why not just look at the direction the ball is heading during a pass

#

like consecutive passes towards the south direction would indicate passing back

#

something like:

countPasses = 0
wasLastPassTeammate = false
BallDirectionAngle = -160 (degrees)
MaxBackDirectionThreshold = -100 (degrees)
MinBackDirectionThreshold = 100 (degrees)
if BallDirectionAngle is within MaxBackDirectionThreshold && MinBackDirectionThreshold:
   if ball.LastPossession.Team == ball.CurrPossession.Team:
      countPasses += 1
      wasLastPassTeammate = true

pseudocode but something similar for "is the team passing back?" logic

#

then if countPasses is above a certain threshold and wasLastPassTeammate continues to be true

im not complaining and Im happy this is getting traction, but bruh countless people including my self have made this exact same suggestion and we always got just a couple upvotes and everyone else being like: "well actually no because..." 🤓 ☝️ why does everyone suddenly agree 🥹

this was posted right after the beta for patch 7

#

so devs are probably looking at feedback more often than other times

And to be honest it's kind of based on if you're a non chatter or not. Folks tend to see suggestion from white names as folks who moan then leave, where as someone with gold or higher seen as a dedicated fan or chatter and wants to give ideas/help.

#

Honestly the code line is there, it's in the passing code to keeper.

I agree because if that was allowed in real life aswell, it will incite as much frustration as this game. That's why it was an established rule in football in general. Furthermore, in street football 3v3 or 5v5 you don't see goal keepers holding the ball after a pass back, you either contest with dribbles or pass quick to your teammate

max held time after 10 seconds is only 3 seconds of holding time, or something similar

This post is why I made my post, and in the title I put "bandwagon". Good post, I agree. Hopefully the developers actually listen to us.

This feature is not gonna be a game-changer, as many believe. Pressing the goalkeeper when he receives a pass may become more effective, and high pressing in general could gain importance, but in terms of time-wasting it will only help a little. Passing back to the goalkeeper will be riskier, but he can still pass the ball right away. Overall, I see it as a positive change, but in my opinion time-wasting is as valid as a strategy as any other and we should only prevent its abuse. This feature would be more than enough.

cyan depot
#

It's absolutely important though. Leaving a attacker unmarked to turn yourself basically into a cherry for the goal is incredibly inefficient and more likely to screw your team as ball possession is gonna be higher on enemy team.
