#High Ping in SEA Server
1 messages · Page 1 of 1 (latest)
Thanks! It's actually pretty common for pings in South East Asia to fluctuate
I'm sorry that you are getting 80ms. With your proximity to Singapore, yes, you should get lower.
What we can do is come back post-free weekend and with some additional tools that are coming soon, we can help diagnose what is going on.
We also don't have any acceleration in the Asia region yet, which is something I'm discussing with the devs (it's their decision).
Here are some servers in Singapore that you could try pinging:
- 213.179.200.199
- 213.179.200.200
- 213.179.200.200
- 213.179.200.200
You may see low pings to these, even though your ping is high is game, because the game traffic is UDP (not ICMP) and game traffic significant bandwidth sent at 60 packets per-second
If you want to dig in further, you can try running "MTR" (My Traceroute) -- google it
Like this:
mtr -u <ip>
This will send traffic over UDP instead of ICMP and report on the routers in between you and the game server.
cheers

Should I try downloading the MRT program?
If you want to
But the ping is already showing you ~70ms, which tells me that you have a high ping to the server
It is somewhere between your ISP and the Singapore datacenter, MTR can help you find out where it is if you want to understand.
(Yes, I agree that 70ms is higher than it should be)
One thing you could try (for the moment) is a gaming accelerator or VPN to get you to Singapore
It might help in the short term, let me know. We currently don't have any Network Next acceleration in Asia, so you could try a gaming VPN and let me know if it helps? Up to you.
I also think my own internet has a part to play
It's possible
We can follow up with you next week with more tests, but right now it just looks like your internet has a ping of ~70-80ms to the singapore servers.
Try a gaming VPN it might help in the short term.
I'm using cloudflare 1.1.1.1 with warp and it gives me ping around 60-65
Is it like this?
yes, those are all the routers between you and the server.
Is it normal or not?
I can't really tell.
I see some packet loss in hops
But this could just be because they're dropping ICMP
Can you try running MTR in UDP mode (-u)
I see you are running i n a gui version, so I don't know how to make that gui version do UDP packets, but that's what you should try next.
But my advice is the same, your internet connection seems to be the problem (or the route between your ISP in the IX and the servers in Singapore), so you should try a gaming VPN in the short term to see if that fixes it for you.
There's nothing else we can really do at this point, although stick around post-free play weekend and I can help run more tests with you as I work with the devs.
If the devs decide to turn on acceleration in Asia, then I can come back here and debug with you and help you optimize your connection, and you could stop using the gaming VPN at that point.
