#EE movement as a defender

Everyone seems to be talking about the nerf to movement in an attacking sense which I get it’s nerfed dribbling into the ground.

There is now only one way to play. Tikki taka football, pass and move. And while as a defender this is a good change for me I feel like the skill ceiling has gone and there is no longer any freedom of expression in the movement as everyone is now doing the exact same thing.

HOWEVER what people are not talking about is how they have made it nigh on impossible to defend. As a top 0.3% defender in the top 500 on Xbox and top 1k in the world the new change to EE (extra effort) and jockeying is diabolical. The ability to not be able to move while in EE has made me (sometimes) completely run past, away or into the wall while trying to win priority in 50/50 encounters or catching up with attackers.

Attackers and defenders use EE in completely different ways, while an attacker will use the boost to create space from a defender, chain together different dribble moves or simply get an extra bit of power on a shot the use of EE isn’t (necessarily) vital to an attacker’s success, as good positioning is also a viable way to score without the use of flashy dribbling mechanics . To a defender EE is imperative. We need EE to close down passing lanes quickly, win priority on headers and, if an attacker is to get past us, close down that gap with some extra speed. Not being able to move in the EE state has inadvertently stopped the precise movement defenders need to do all of the things mentioned.

While I appreciate your views on the problems with the movement ( Its a bit too clunky)

I disagree that Tikki Takka part is bad. It promotes teamwork more than ever, which is the crux of sports games.. Realistic or not.

There is still lots of creative expression to do in the game. A minority of people are overreacting if you ask me.

yes, exactly. i'm affected most as an aggressive defender/goalie, when i don't have the ball. I'm not in control any more of situations that i knew i could get to the ball first. It's unplayable for me in its current state.

its not about dribbles or that for me because i never played that way any way, in fact i do not even have the tricks binded to my controller. I'm a solid defender(or at least i could be before the update) who passes a lot.

hopefully we can see a hotfix in the coming days, its that bad, and there's too many people saying it for it to be an overreaction.

That’s a good take tbf! I just think with a game like rocket league, when people discovered the air dribbling, the reset, the stall, the multiple dashes and the speed flip the devs ran with it and made it an official part of the game. I feel like people’s unwillingness to learn how to defend these dribble techs have pressured slowclap into making the game effectively a “one size fits all” way of playing the game. The skill ceiling has now gone, past the beginners tutorial what more do you need to learn. But tbf I can’t speak for an attackers perspective I’m purely defence

Thanks for sharing you view, albeit I don't agree. People are making it out as if it's impossible to use tech now, thats not true.

While you probably cant dribble the entire field anymore, you can absolutely still be creative and incorporate interesting combos. I see them every day since the drop of patch 3.

If we are to turn the argument around I could say it's peoples unwillingness to adept tech into the "new" gamestyle that is the problem. They want the full ego experience. Big solo efforts should always be more rare.

The big issue is when you have elements that don't flux with the flow of the game.. The best example being GB.

And I'm saying this as a striker with around 1600 matches

Fix the EE movement, fix defensive stance, find another solution / workaround so that certain metas are not OP. We all want free flowing passing football, but not at the expense of actually being able to move properly.

in order for defense to have the slight upper hand. movement needs to be spot on, current state is undoubtedly a backwards step

and the biggest issue to me is those saying that the game is better just because certain aspects got worse.. that's not at all how it works.
