We all want a tournament mode, and that’s simple, a system like Rocket League with daily timed tournaments with set rewards. However, there’s more to be had so let’s advocate to make tournaments more exciting and entertaining.
Here are a few ideas:

Clans/Teams: Let us queue up as a clan or team, which can be decided in the menu, similar to Rocket League’s clan system. Take it one step further by giving us semi-customisable team logos. Let this system work in standard multiplayer too, but ensure tournaments emphasis the clan competition to let clan names get recognised.

Spectating from the Stands: Lost in the tournament? Get to watch from the sidelines or with a spectator view to keep the excitement going. Send love to the team you’re rooting for with emoticon team logos that pop up in the stand and get rewarded for sticking around rather than leaving early.

Loser’s Bracket: Losing shouldn’t be a one way ticket to the end, let a loss lead to a losers brackets for the teams to fight for a higher position, and in turn, receive better rewards accordingly.
EDIT: Tournaments themselves would be a great way to improve player retention, although, on top of a simple daily tournament system, something similar to Valorant’s Premier mode could benefit the game immensely. With less frequent (once a month) but higher stakes Premier-esk events, players will have a more consistent reason to come back to the game several times a week to keep their team higher on the ladder and make it into a finalists tournament. Adequate rewards such as Clan Titles (i.e “Season 1 Premier Finalists”, “Season 1 Premier Champions”), unique Champion’s boots with animated flare, and currency rewards will give incentive for players to want to be apart of Premier each time.
