Having the minimap be a circle that can view outside the field when the only thing you care about is the pitch is really weird, plus there's no way to actually zoom out the minimap so you can see more of it. Personally I'd like to be able to get an overview of the entire field at a glance with the minimap. Concept in image, colours/icons easily subject to change and all cause this was just a quick mockup in photoshop.

Also, like other people have suggested, being able to see enemy player numbers on the minimap would be really nice as well!
