Battlefield Ambience Mod aims to enhance the game's audio environment, adding distant sounds of war to create a more immersive and realistic experience.

Triggered by location, the mod will select pre-defined sound samples as you traverse over the terrain.

Trigger Locations - Forests, Villages, Coastlines and Military Bases.

Sound samples will play out then fade to give periods of quiet time until the next trigger point has been activated.

Designed to work seamlessly with every vanilla game mode on Arland, Everon and Kolguyev.

Battlefield Ambience volume control under the Audio Settings tab - Recommended setting 100%

Community terrain compatibility is only guaranteed if these terrains include the Music Manager prefab.

This is a Plug and Play modification, simply subscribe, load and enjoy.

This mod will override the Reforger ambient music system, so if you enjoy the beautiful score that comes with Reforger then please, don't use this mod.

Future plans for this mod will be mostly adding new samples for more variety.
There are currently 6 samples in this initial release that vary in length from 3-4 minutes.
The samples that are currently included are formatted in stereo but I'd like to experiment with spatial sounds.
Hopefully this initial release will provide some decent background ambience, your thoughts and feedback are always welcome.

@keen spire Have you considered asking the map author, Denali currently has the MusicManager_Base baked into the map, It would require MusicManager_Campaign for compatibility with this mod. πŸ˜‰

Further I noticed some strange things… if you standing in an open field there is no battlefield sound. If you entering an forest or a city the abience sound starts

Found my problem, "Spearhead Rna core" seems to make the ambient music kick in instead of the sounds. Not a big issue at all, Im only using it because of their sandbag emplacements and shielded turrets really for my Takistan setup. Anytime I want to run the ambient mod I just gotta remove it, doesn't work on Takistan anyway for the time being. Figured I'd find the source if anyone else runs through this same issue.

@toxic belfry Regarding Takistan it's a similar situation to Denali, no MusicManager_Campaign prefab present within the terrain, but I noticed you requested support in the Takistan channel so hopefully LightFun can add it sometime.

Just a question about all perso who tested the mod ^^
The same sound played for all players at the same time ?
I mean, if an Air Raid Alarm is played in my headphone, the same sound is for all player at the same time ? Or it's just personnal ?

.... assuming of course they are grouped within the same location trigger that spawns the sound sample.

I have no idea brother, your first post was very vague, I'd just assumed you couldn't hear the sounds because your volume was set to 0. πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ
But if your finding an issue with another mod running alongside then try running it without that mod and see if this solves your problem.
This is Arma, not all mods share compatibility, but we know these things.
I'd imagine there will be conflict with other sound modifications.

That was my issue indeed. Couldn't hear the sounds and checked settings. It was set to 0% by default. I'll try some things today!

Making good progress with spatial sound placement and I'm super happy with the results, they literally sound more dynamic than the stereo samples. I think from here on in the new samples that are added will all use spatial sounds placement. this video demonstrates another distant gun battle using both left and right audio channels, there is also two helicopter flybys one from the right, one from the left....https://youtu.be/hz20VPlaZaM?si=_YYRLC9BzQN7gKzN

Yes, the spatial sound placement is so much better than the stereo samples but we live and learn.
I have two new spatial samples ready for the next update, the original stereo samples will still remain for the time being until I've amassed enough spatial samples to replace them.

Small progress update.....
I've built 4 new spatial sound samples, (three firefights and one air raid) all sounding really sweet panned across a wider soundscape compared to the original stereo samples.
These new samples are longer in length and slightly louder than the original samples, I felt this was required given the sounds are now split between left and right channels.
They sound really meaty at 100% but of course you guys can tweak the volume with the dedicated volume slider.
I'm hopeful for a release tomorrow evening. πŸ™Œ

Have you given the mod time to evolve?
Meaning this mod doesn't provide constant battlefield ambience, there are periods of quiet between the samples.
It can take up to 4/5 minutes for the ambience to kick in as the samples are trigger activated based on where you are on the map.

i guess not, ive been doing testing with other mods with it enabled, i guess i havent allowed it to fully develope. also does that mean its not really compatible on a server with other people? or will folks hear something different? i was interested in adding this to my milsim server to add to the immersion

TSE has been updated however the recent 1.6 update has pretty much fubared Battlefield Ambience and unfortunately I don't have the will to work on Reforger anymore so it's unlikely to get fixed or updated.
I can only apologise.πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ
Maybe I could upload the source files (samples and sound configs), perhaps someone from the community could find some use for them.

They reworked the Music Manger prefabs (which this mod piggybacks on) most likely to accommodate the addition of Kolguyev which uses its own Music Manger prefab.
So unfortunately too much work/no motivation for me to fix everything and also make it compatible with Kolguyev.
