Today I'm going through and fixing all the problems found in the beta. This includes replacing the cliff rocks with 1/1 scale so there's no collision issues

I am adding 2 dependency's to Elysian:
- 25k view distant mod
- Force distant shadows
There is no detectable performance issues associated with the mods on PC
Friends ive played with on Xbox also note no performance differences

In the HDR settings ive removed the luminosity and set it to perpetual - this seems to have fixed the issues
I have an HDR monitor but i make all these changes with it disabled. Also disabled per-pixel
Currently right now im getting an issue when running Geometry 2d - seems a bug of sorts. Hard crashes. Probably a known issue - not a priority for me rn

HDR needs a few more tweaks. Night is wayyyy too bright and the contrast on the NVGs makes them almost useless.
Bright is a bit blinding in areas too

Hmmm...agree to disagree? I played the latest update for two hours this morning and the brightness levels were bouncing all over the place and sometimes way too dark in some areas and way too bright in others.

Yeah. And the darkness of the swamp water darkens it. The swamp water also has a weird illumination effect as you walk through it.
Love the map so far though. Once he dials I'm the HDR I can see endless hours on this map

The darkness of the murky water flickers really bad and disappears when your in it
So just woke up and played around with it. The explanation I can think for this is the "eye adaptation" they use is likly extremely aggressive. Probably because the base game doesn't support NVGs and none of the interiors have lighting - likely to be added with the future "electric grid" update.
I know I can fix it, just got to find the right settings between my weather lighting and the HDR

Again some settings arent visible real-time requiring a reload of map, but for most part i disabled eye-adaptation that was causing the image to be blown out
Now I'm working with linear lighting, I'm able to properly expose everything

One thing I can say that makes a difference is the default sun lighting has a redish tone. This is not accurate to real life. Sunlight is white

So in theory i have not messed with HDR mapping at all - its now linear and mainly relying on weather lighting. This should not affect NVG mod. Ill run some tests to see before making an update
Good news i got it working. RHS overrides the default HDR - so i wont. I will continue lighting the scene without and just using weather. Good news is my work paid off, lighting holds up well

Yes thats the big difference with the Beta. Beta is a preparation for final detailing and experimentation with features. Now that a lot has been completed with lighting, weather, etc... im gonna to spend the next month finalizing the 3 islands that the official release has. Then from there im gonna to spend the next (who knows how long) to finish the entire map

I'm currently putting out requests to other map developers in the community, ones I know make good maps and assets.
While I have the ability and skill to develop the map completely solo, I'm not satisfied about a 1 year development. If I get 2 other mapers I can reduce the time down to January/February release rather than June/July

There already have been multiple ppl to address the pretty dark vanilla lighting esp. while clear/sunny sky.
It's honestly what started my journey into developing it! I have been staring at my own map thinking that the lighting was a major problem
As i was already fiddling around with weather, I decided to rework the lighting as well. Took 10 days of development time to complete the final result.
It required me to create a beta build of my map to fix issues with my modifications and everything
Well worth the trouble. Now I can have my map great and Make Arma Great Again as well!

I think having proper ( more bright and friendly ) lighting ( at least while clear/sunny ) is a big thing.
Still remember how much i liked the look of it in the very early day's bevore they changed it.
Look's like your modification's are pretty close to how it was.

Funny enough the modifications made were about 1-10% different than vanilla.
The biggest changes are in the clouds, fog, weather and ocean parameters.
Such a simple (on paper) modification made the biggest difference and now im happy to share with the rest of community
I introduced Arma to a friend long ago, and we both agreed that Arma has an uncanny valley appearance
My own opinion on the modifications make it much more appealing to a general audience. It gives the same appearance as a shader application without requiring a shader plugin
My goal for this project is to not only show what I'm capable of as an environmental and level design artist (soon to showcase gamedesign) for future portfolio and career, but to make a product that sells within the existing community
This is not only an in-map lore device, but a statement about Arma and what I wish to do for it and the community

I think future development would either require me to change the mod to fit all maps or i can just give out the files for their maps if need be.
I dont mind doing this as part of Making Arma Great Again means that all us developers for Arma can work as a community to enhance our creations!
So far it works really well with Bohemia maps, as it should. For others ill do what i said on a per-request basis. Ill even take the time to custom tune it to work for any developer that asks!
The published version of this mod is one that has been fined-tuned to fit directly with Elysian.
Fact it works so well on Vanilla maps plus community maps makes me happy ๐

Remember this lighting mod was specifically built for Elysian.
It just happens to work with almost every other map on the market
@mossy stonelooking pretty good so far.
I've only tested on Arland which is the map i'm using for my stuff pretty much 100% of the time.
Somehow i have the feeling clear/sunny is a tiny bit too bright rn.
Like if the gamma was set from vanilla 50% to 100%.
Maybe something in between like brighter then vanilla but not that much?
I know it's all user preferance and it may will be affected by monitor type and stuff.
Is there a simple value i could change for testing or do i have to mess with a lot of stuff to adjust this specific part of it?
So i did just run a test:
I have an HDR monitor. This basically makes sure none of my image is never over exposed or under exposed.
When disabled my image does get over exposed to essentially a white-out.
But this isnt exclusive with my map, all the menues and my desktop are blown out white, including my chat with you on discord.
The screenshots ive been sharing look identical to the ones on my phone as well even with HDR disabled. It could be your PC screen is set too bright.
But I could completely be at fault as well. I just cant find how or where at this time

Yes! My lore and backstory i came up for the island is a parody of politics much like GTA does. Its supposed to be a realistitic depiction but also not take itself seriously
And i dont need to do all this. But with 2 week remaining for the next update, i want to make what i am releasing extremely dense with content, even thought im not filling out more area. By end of December i will, start blocking in the Continent as promised originally.
To combat map fatigue, im gonna spend a huge portion on gameplay development to officially bring gamemodes that arent natively supported. Why shouldnt there be a CTF or TDM? Etc? Look at COD for example: one map provides multi-layer gamemode support. THIS should be native, but i will add it to Elysian
Ive written out 36+ gamemodes divided between 9 categories - did this long before Elysian... When i was originally trying to mod for Fortnite:/A3

Correct lighting is so very important! An idea is to individual customize the light for different maps.
Example, the light in Chernarous shoud be different from the map Fallujah and so on...
Maybe its much work, but often the light is a bit off at custom maps.
But i bet you already know this...

I've been trying out the lightning and weather mod and I've gotta say I'm really impressed with the visuals!
Theres just two weird things I've found out while testing:

If the weather is sunny and a cloud is under the sun, the shadow on the landscape will be either really fast or be changing with the GM camera / Helicopter position. Which feels really unnatural, if you're recording an OP or in a helicopter flying around.

In snow weather, the rain is "walking" with the player weirdly? Hard to explain, might have to make a video of it to show it
Tests were made on Ramadi, so idk if it might've been an issue of the map ๐ Do different maps have different suns? ๐
I know some issues regarding lighting and clouds I think I know a fix. It's the way engine renders clouds. It's technically correct but it looks funky - so I'll remove the funk ๐ธ

Lore: Built in 1951 during McCarthyism, was used a political prisoner/labor camp for suspected communists
Closed down in 1964 - Temperarily reopened in 1980 during the Mariel Boatlift to house refugees -now a museum
"McCarthy Island"
This is backstory to how the third major faction on the island came to be. Once the prison shutdown, refugees and prisoners were resettled in Las Palmeras - forming the Las Palmeras Cartel

I think Enfusion has really good optimization. Plus with most assets already Vanilla and on the system under the game, it only packages location information etc..
Yea my 17x17 map is about 1.4gb but I've mainly used vanilla entities too, as soon as you start adding modded stuff the mod size starts shooting up. Also most vanilla stuff are properly optimised
My mexico map is getting close to 3 already but ive had to import a lit if assets to make it feel like Mexico. I didn't know if there was a way to compress assets.
oh well sucks to be on xbox with a 25 gb limit. but you cant turn a sedan into a semi truck

100% of this project is solo development by myself. I know some assets were gifted to add in, but that'll be on future update
To put this in perspective, although not in terms of land area, the bottle left 3 islands alone are ~ 7km x 7km
They have the roughly the same landmass as the southern half of Everon
Not gonna lie, I mostly use your map to just drive around and enter a zen zone lmao. It's beautiful.

The final map map end up looking like this, but im gonna take the same approach i did with Elysian and do everything custom and use no real world locations other than reference

Theres so much i want to add and im not satisfied by whats been made - sorry for all that wanted it this updated this weekend, just know im doing it because i want to deliver a good map ๐ฆ
I felt myself taking shortcuts just to deliver and saying "oh I can just update later" - but really I should just make it now so I can concentrate on the map as is

Wanted to share a technique im working on: I wanted more distant shadows - but thats expensive. So ive "baked" shadows onto the sat map itself whereever there is foliage. This provides much better visuals
Im not sure if baking shadows is a feature, so this was my workaround
And because my grass is custom, it doesn't darken or lighten based on the satmap
So it's only visible at long distance as show above

In combination with adding shadows, ive added highlights to simulate tree tops. Now my autumn colors are more visible at distant
Its a little extreme right now, but with some tweaking this will look exactly how i want

The map is being released Monday - But 50% chance Conquest & Combat Ops delayed - I started getting a game breaking bug when launching. These games were working the other night, now they crash to desktop. So its gonna take time for me to debug and fix

also the terrain level on the prison island is a bit scuffed around the cemented part of the lighthouse. Makes placing stuff there hard since it goes underground

@mossy stone just so you are aware all the street lights around the towns and roads are able to be deleted by a GM this could possibly help reduce lag as you can delete them
Yeah Gm lag is pretty bad at the moment if you fly into new areas its on 20 fps for me
I know Las Palmeras gets the worst frames in GM. The modded buildings seem to be the issue

There was an update to the dependency that seems to have fixed some performance issues around Las Palmeras.
Going through and fixing issues ive seen. Everything very minor so far.
- Bushes missing in some woods
- Bushes/Trees on some roads
- Fixing up all the rivers and lakes today, that were unfinished.
- Getting Combat Ops and Conquest ready for playability
- Fixing satellite texture
If anyone has found something that i didnt see yet, let me know. Its a big map

I think those streetlights cause GM lags when youre flying around with the camera

Would be very disappointed if another mod may cause the issue. Had those issues before with other mods causing unforseen issues, but managed to fix it.
I could never make the map 100% compatible with every mod on the workshop.
Either we all start working to fix issues between each mod or players will have to select between which hurts everybody
If enough people decide my map isn't worth it - I'm happy to stop trying to make it a mod and export everything over to UE5 for my own video game than compromise my vision. It's not just a map to me. It's story, lore, experience etc...

I've opened my mod/map from the beginning to have people make conquest, combat Ops, life, dayz... Whatever people want and nobody has adapted it yet - So I have to do everything myself. Mind you, this project has been public since July. I went on vacation in August, it was reported something apparently broke the mod, which on my end didn't. So everyone stopped playing by the time I came back
This is not a financially stable project to be forced to make everything everyone wants. I'm here to try - try to Make Arma Great Again
But if the community doesn't want it I don't have to make it
Granted, I've been contacted by life servers, but their offer was to sell rights and not make a mod on top of what I made
Meaning, they more or less wanted monetization rights and I'd see nothing of which
I'm on PC, stable branch, no other mods. The only selectable items I can see are the statues, a truck wreck and the lamp posts around Gambler's.
Not sure what mod could cause it. No other map i played on has this happen.

@mossy stone did you change the thumbnail? It could be the wrong file type. I can't remember if it has to be a .edds or .PNG but I had this issue once too.
Nothing changed - uploaded fine on monday. I think some of my resources unloaded or something so i imported them back in

what is working is really beautiful though! Will definitely keep using this map. if I see any more bugs I will report on it!

From my experience it seems to loz tried it on my PC and console but was on signal player GM hope that helps
Versions of the map have been successfully uploaded but still stuck on version 1.1.4 due to a problem with the assets I had not being registered or having been unregistered due to a bug - will try again today
I may end up removing from workshop and reuploading from scratch.
Each upload takes about 2 hours and I won't know if it's successful until the end
Rephrase: new versions have been registered but not uploading
Between Mondays 1.14 update to this new version, no assets have imported or changed. Ive now removed configs to the unfinished gamemodes
Im running the batch possessors to find issues. Registering any unregistered assets etc...
Another modder said the workshop is currently offline. Could this be causing your issues?
It's very possible workshop is having issues. Also noted that. Doing everything on my end to make sure I remove any variable that could be coming from my mod

I'm about 40% away from discontinuing the project on Reforger and moving to Unreal Engine
Make is 5% - as far as im concerned im unable to publish this project. I had it published not 1 week ago and now i cant. Nothing i do is working

Lets assume i f'd up some how. Lets assume last time i loaded tools and all my ground textures had to be replaced, had to have been reworked whatever... Lets assume my gamemodes i created suddenly stopped working, i made them, now stopped working around the update time... now ive removed everything i can, fixed everything, debugged whatever i could... my mod is still unable to update, unable to be fixed, unable to be whatever....what can be done
What im saying is, ive had no f'ing problems until the last 2 f'ing weeks. Either the game update is breaking everything or im going to start conspiratizing what i think is actually happening

Much consideration is being done whether I continue to support Elysian on Reforger or the Arma platform.
Currently right now I do not support and will likely be transferring the project off Arma
Not my ideal situation. I have over 15k hours in this franchise, I've loved every minute of Arma and loved this game
However I've seen some worrying ideological differences for which Elysian will no longer be supported on the platform
I have made my decision, Elysian will be pulled from the Arma Reforger workshop and will no longer be in production on Arma
Unless things are fixed, I will suspend all modding activity until its able to be published

What is the reason why the publication failed in the error log?
Last recieved. Half of which has even been fixed. This uploaded as is no problems before. Now everything broke the last few days
"addon processing failed" it takes two fricken hours to get a message like that. What failed? Nothing showing the logs

The ideological difference bit is what has me curious I should add.
I know the logs, the info showing is just incorrect. I updated thes assets on the mod etc..

So assume resource leaks, assume my map is the issue - these issues were persistant in my Monday 11/11 update - i had almost no relative issues - so something changed between that Monday and Friday
I hope someone could help you out and help figure this issue out. This map had so much potential and I know a lot of the community was waiting for it ๐ค but take your time g hopefully it can get squared soon
The error is because you are trying to upload a version that already exists, If you change the version number manually you should be able to publish
i did went up to 1.6+ with whatever BS i put in, that didnt fix it
Can you give me the mod guid from your workbench options page
If you have removed it from workshop, you need to change GUID before you can upload it back.
So again, the project was removed - the latest version trying to upload was 1.2.0 - no issue there except issues posted above - my current work around is to create a new project, import eevythting like i once did the beta, and republish

Agree, only transfering data related to map info etc... But The GUID relation means the mod is F'd up using that
You can make new guid in workbench. Utilities generate guid.

Ok - what i will do because much of the project dependency relies on GUID - essentially if i were to create a new project and import my assets over like i did the Beta version, than that new project could be the new Elysian for project upload
this is to prevent any variable relating to original game project
The addon file in your directory is basically a text file
If you open it with something like vs code, or even notepad etc you will see what he is referring to
But yes the other way to change the guid is to make a new project and copy all the files across except for the addon file and the resource database file
i see that, i will create a new file - import Elysian to that and then have no issue like i did my beta version that went live, this is all assuming something corrupted with my original file over 4 days or minor edits, that the new file should upload safely or in abouts close to that which i want. - but if update cannot be processed than something in my map is corrupted and therefore cannot ever be updated or provided to my frens. So were looking at a 100% Reforger update - or an update in which im gonna spend year or so developing a UE5 game around

I also had a problem uploading the map to the workshop for many months. Problem was my new cable modem. Modem somehow lost connection to the workshop, maybe it disconnected when the upload took so long. I had to change the dmz in the modem configuration to point the computer IP address and now I can send stuff to the workshop.
Also workshop has been having server issues. Especially on weekends lately.
Could also install warp and try uploading when connected to that

workshop being down can make you think your mod is broken, its happened to me a few times. before settling on the conclusion your mod is broken, wait a few days and try to upload again
i almost broke my map the other day because the workshop was down and i thought it was me that did something

but it was deleted from the workshop so I cant show you the version number to confirm
so not sure what mario can do in this instance unless the mod author tries uploading to a new GUID or restoring the deleted mod and uploading with a high version numbering
also; probably refrain from pinging the BI staff - most of those folks are 5-6 hours ahead of us and are probably worrying about bigger fish to fry

@tight geyser I ran into the same issue with my No More Voting GM mod when the workshop had intermittent issues over the weekend. It seems if you scroll back up that was what got him too.
I just resolved my end by simply recreating everything as it wasn't a huge project, but in cases like this where we have folks building whole maps; the restart of the whole mod just isn't exactly the most viable option.
In these cases just change the project GUID and rebuild the resource database
No need to redo whole project

Sometimes we can solve it right away in less than 10 minutes, like recently in the case with ACE team
they had a problem similar to this where they got locked out of some of their mods for months until they reached directly to me

Seeing as he is outright cancelling the map for Arma Reforger, does this even count as a enf_showcase? He outright has acknowledged he has no intention to bring this back to the game. Maybe we lock this thread unless that changes?
Im curious as to what all the "ideological differences" were.
He just said in his discord that essentially he had issues uploading to the Workshop and didnโt want to keep working on something he deemed to be broken. (Thatโs a pretty heavy sum up.) but that discord he sent is just an advertisement area for his new venture on UE.
90% sure Mario even came in here and resolved the issue for him, and he just waved the white flag afterwards.
he did have the issue for longer than 2 weeks. Now Im not saying Mario shouldve gotten in contact with him, Im just saying lots of ppl only reacted AFTER he pulled the plug.
Especially since it appears to be an issue with uploading the project. Imagine you sitting uploading it multiple times and just praying it works and it doesnt. Even tho it worked before. And he was vocal and pinged certain ppl about it, which some ignored him.
In the end, its tragic that he doesn't wanna continue his work but I also understand his point of view, because having to deal with problems you yourself as creator cant really do a lot about is infuriating.
thats why a lot of mods are not being made for the game tbh since the tools and the game itself is constantly being worked on and lack documentation and features

But i cant consciously waste time and have more sleepless nights praying this project can even be uploaded
The problem isnt that i see an error or bugs. Ive seen those before - it cancelled update and only waste 5minutes. Go in, fix and update and usually works.
The roadblock i have is im only seeing failed after 2-3 hours of uploading (server depending).
And the logs im seeing do not point me towards a single issue that im able to fix.
As i was responding to this thread, i was going to pull up my world to demonstrate that things are working and should be fine to upload.
Now the world itself is missing.
The project itself maybe completely corrupted

your mod is not loaded in workbench, you prob opened it and got a missing dependency error or something, check the log console
