cruise speed at mil power 50ASL is about 500-600FT, probably not mach one but a lot faster than the a10

carrier landings will need practice without On Speed Indicator but very do-able!^^

also I want to take in a little bit of a poll. rocket pods are working fine and are super fun to play around with. I am working on ATGMs but they'll be copilot fired due to limitations. I also have a remodel of the flight physics that might feel more true to life. I can either release this small but significant update tonight or delay it a bit until I figure out ATGMs and AAMs so y'all get the full package. (landing gear and flaps are still broken I can't do animations

i made a map called "liberty CAS Range" and they seem to work on there most of the time but i cant ever get them to work on other maps

With the maverick there's no lazing for it since it's a heatseeker warhead but with gbus it would be viable to connect a laser to the warheads tracking system and then the pilot can just drop it at the correct height and speed

my weapons are not dependant on the pylon prefab. so not really, i will however haave a unarmed verrsion that allows for redline weapons

Bug report: Aircraft is slowly turning left in place when there is no pilot or anything interacting with it
that's an issue with the landing gear I'm afraid. to fix it I would have to either disable it or use another method.
the a10 also has this issue if you look closely
I've found through testing that disabling wind helps mitigate the effect
update uploading now (should take a while because my internet is not the best today). fixes include but are not limited to:
• copilot compartment no longer breaks players necks.
• landing gear break torque increase from 30000a. to 60000 front. from 50k to 70k rear.
• new flight model should feel more responsive and engines are no longer pointing down.
• anabled HUD components to show in TPP
• increased fuel consumption and changed fuel type.
ADDED:
•ground strike package for the F/A-18.
•LAU-61 rocket pods to pylons 4 and 8.
•place holder AGM65 Mavericks to pylons 3 and 9
•AN/AAQ-28 lightening targeting pod to pylon 5.
•GBU-12 laser guided bomb to pylon 6.
•AIM-9M to pylons 1 and 12.
All armaments except for pylons 4 - 8 and 1 - 12 are copilot controlled.
as for the time being AIM-9Ms are dumb.

@minor quarry nvm, found the issue, there are two seats in the back seat, one does nothing which is the only one you can get in without gm, but I put my character in the pilot, one AI in the not working seat and one on the working seat, deleted the one in the not working seat and took over the other and it works

When I press "exit targeting pod" it puts my character back into the broken seat

the copilot seat with joystick controls works for me in workbench. maybe are you on controller?
Nah, you can't even free look to be able to switch to targeting pod, all controls are completely frozen up

Yep, there is a mod on my server conflicting with it preventing free look inside that one seat

It's on my conflict server and there are a few not very furbished mods on there, if we added it to main it might work but I honestly don't know
I'll test RHS see if that's what breaks it, if not then just leave it, not a you issue at that point

if you need cockpit refrence pictures i can jump on DCS and get some. the Wing Unfold handle is located on the right side below the dash all the way against the side pretty much, and landing gear is on the left same spot

also before anybody points out the gbu and the lightening pod are not correctly attached. I will soon model proper pylons for those. plan is to focus on functionality to later polish the looks.
how hard is it to make a new cockpit user input like the engine start? cause steps 1-3 for the list in the other chat are just audio and gauges in the cockpit reactions untill you start the engines
not hard at all! eventually I'll add some buttons (some without functionality due to limitations) to the cockpit.

the bombs have pretty much zero initial velocity. final velocity should be 200ms. bomb relies almost entirely on aircraft momentum to hit the target. also are you sure your bomb isn't hitting the container? lol
they are not propelled.

also. might or might not add two extra mavericks to pylons 2 and 10. maybe even more. depends on what people think about the lethality of this thing and the advantages of using it instead of an apache that'd have 16 hellfires. anyway let me know what y'all think about the weapons loadout.

yes. it isn't perfect at all. some parts are clipping and some meshes are kinda weird. I still have to learn how to inject these into enfusion and worst of all how to make it work on the model. but halfway there already.

First time using the F18 in an op and ngl targeting pod is almost impossible to use because it doesn't lock in place and moves with the plane

yeah. unfortunately I can't make it point lock with my current skill. I'll try to think of something if not write a script maybe talk to some other modders. for now best thing is to coordinate with your pilot so you don't lose yourself in the tpod

Yeah fair enough, it also still goes super unstable at high speeds, I personally think it should be slowed down more just to fit reforgers small ass maps, even if it's not realistic
I have considered slowing down. I have tweaked some settings in the flight model but it still flies a lot like the a10. I'll try to fix flight stability issues as well as increase throttle imput so it takes longer to reach max speed.
can't promise much tho. I am fairly happy with the flight performance for what it is
Speed is fine man its good for zipping around the map, its mot hard to fly it at 130 kmh for cas runs

my main concern is lag. I've got reports that the pilot will sometimes lag on larger servers due to loading of new areas a bit too fast.
I have not used it on a busy server as of yet mate so i cant comment

WIP sounds for the hornet. YouTube compression might take away from it but I think in game it sounds decent
fuel and repair nodes have been added + fuel has been set to around 750L with a fuel consumption of 100L/h. for about 7:50h of fuel at 1x server fuel consumption. 10% of fuel should give you some 45 minutes of fuel at those configurations.
refueling node is set at the left side of the nose where the refueling probe would come out.

the bottom middle one for an f18 is traditionally a GPS map of the area you are flying in centered on your aircraft.
but i doubt internal screens wont be a priority for a minute, but idk how hard doing all that is so
Avionics refers to anything in the cockpit that displays essential information. Artificial horizon, airspeed indicator, etc.

I will eventually learn how to implement layouts so the hud doesn't feel as empty as rn. another essential thing would be the analog dials. I might just add the vanilla ones for the time being as the model doesn't have the most high res cockpit. as for MFD's I will try to come up with something similar to RHS or the Vpad mods to add togglable pip MFD's but that's for the future as it would require learning new systems within the engine.
I'm personally more interested in the analog avionics anyway as I think they're more important than some of the other stuff. Just curious
idk if you can rip the compass, artificial horizon and the flaps gauges off the a10 but if you can that would be legendary for the time being

@minor quarry tested it helicopters and light vics are a short burst to kill APCS require direct or very close hits to kill and tanks remain unaffected minus the tinnitus

it already is bound to the default. problem is they're bound to be pilot fired. they can only lock in ADS according to the maker of the bgone script. I could add a turret to the pilot compartment to make them firable but that'd be weird imo.

idk how to put it so ill try to explain it best as possible. The rocket pods arent zerod to the center of the hud when you fire. you have to aim on the left side or right side of the hud if the right pod is firing you have to aim on the right side of the hud. and left pod on left side of the hud

Tbh, no one has ever really attempted and successfully pulled off any sort of bombing in AR, A-10 bombs don't work and being able to carpet bomb, napalm, cluster, or one big bomb areas would be pretty nice.

also should fix the GBU12 but that's just a hunch as testing in the workbench kinda is hard

In warthunder the sharpnel goes for about 190 m but the overpressure zone is like 80 meters

funny you say. I have backups but the workbench itself is eating the vehicle prefab... I have the prefab folder saved on a different hard drive with file backups anabled but every time I try to put the prefab folder into the workbench it gets eaten by enfusion somehow

okay so after trying to drop bombs from the a10 is impossible for keybinds both on controller and keyboard assuming the f18 is conflicting with that option.
I haven't messed with the keybinds... funny because it works just fine on my end.. it is incredibly difficult to fix an issue that's only happening on the end user

although i can say the bombs are indeed working slightly, it took me 3 to do any damage.

new flight physics are fire! love the more drawn out throttle so that taxi'ing is alot easier, also the time it takes to go from slow flying to 300+ is much more realistic i think, which is an incredible help for staying in formation. Love the turn time, feels alot more like how the DCS one flies as well
glad you like it. I had to completely redo the flight physics so I spent a couple hours in dcs figuring out how I could improve it. it's still not perfect and honestly I got a bit lazy but it does fly a lot better
well i could tell right away there was a clear diffrence much smoother! your hard work really paid off here.

4x muzzles at 1500rpm for a total of 6000rpm. hopefully it doesn't lag too much. advised not to use the sound / shrapnel mod at all otherwise consoles might light up like Christmas trees

fantastic work on the f18 man
did some testing and messing around with the new aim7 and they’re awesome. We ran up some 2v2 dogfights and i gotta say the new flight physics are very smooth.
only feedback i could give is the landing gear, but your aware of that already.
i wonder if it would be any easier for you if you cut the whole animation idea and just made them retract instantly

no, careless has a map that he made, for the most of my information that is the biggest modded map on the workshop, but they work perfect on there no issues, but that was a while ago now.
yeah modded maps sometimes break certain things. it's best that whenever you're testing a new mod that you try to use it on a clean gm on everon. so that your bug reports aren't clouded by possible mod conflicts.

ever since you have fixed them we have been messing with them on here with mods, so ill try it out without mods later on.
not on a modded map, just everon with other mods.
although even without any mods they still didnt work but it could change with your fix.
yeah. I tested on workbench without any mods on arland and it worked. the reason I tell you to test it without mods is a bug report is useless if it comes from a highly modded server with a modded map. I can't do anything to fix compatibility with 150+ mods yk what I mean?
