Voice Volume Selector

Greetings, respected Reforger players.

I decided to write this feedback and see what you think about it. In my case, I would discuss the current voice chat they have in reforger and the additions that would make it extremely better.

One of the features that, in my opinion, would be ideal in the game is the selectivity of the voice volume. That is, to choose between

  • Whispering voice
  • Normal voice
  • Loud voice.

Each of these 3 stages has a different volume and distance that the voice can reach.

  • Whispering - up to 1.5 - 2 meters
  • Normal - up to 5-6 meters (a few meters up and down)
  • Loud - up to some 15 meters, maybe more, depending on the realism to be adjusted.

What makes this a great addition to the game?

With the current system and the volume of our voices in the course of communication, the enemy on the ground is able to hear me as far as an incredible 30 meters, with my normal tone of voice. Which therefore leads to loss of secrecy and sneaking up on enemies. This kind of system that I presented could contribute to solving the problem that I mentioned.

I hope that this will give our best developers some idea of implementing a similar, if not the same, system. Perhaps even the use of Artificial Intelligence that would estimate the volume of our voice on the microphone and accordingly determine the distance at which it can be heard.

Note: If I'm not mistaken something similar was available in Arma 3, vanilla or maybe some mod. Certainly the picture I am attaching is cut and edited from Arma 3 as an idea.

The game already resembles or respects your voice input volume quite well. Whispering/shouting into the mic changes the range and "hearability" greatly and that's perfect really
I always rather disliked having to change my voice range using TFAR and ACRE and hated using the vanilla channel system

I'd assume it uses volume thresholds of the mic, but in general talking normally or quietly in a firefight makes people hard to hear and shouting or talking loudly will get nearby AI alerted when doing Ghost Recon kinda stuff

So I am still standing on our feedback that we would like to have 3 choices for voice volume (easy way) or an AI that will determin depending on volume of our voice (hard way)

Yes players will still hear you regardless, your voice just might get swallowed by louder sounds, but AI reacts to it differently.
Another issue that'd present itself is that the controller layout is already quite packed alongside the issues the A3 system had like when standing 0.3m outside of the range you wouldn't hear somebody or falsely setting a wider range than wanted. The system was good for what was available then but just isn't modern or state of the art anymore. Creating a mod for people who prefer it would be neat, yes but it shouldn't be forced onto the entire player base

Yeah mod would be amazing implementing old ways, but if Bohemia would come with some more modern solution for vanilla it would be amazing

I'd love if sound occlusion was further enhanced by walls, windows and doors preventing clear speech passthrough whereas opening and closing them adjusts the range and volume more substantially. But then again, VOIP wasn't revamped or truly updated since the start of the tech demo. The only changes I remember are the mediocre changes to the radio system that only fixed a few display bugs and made the menu a lackluster circly-boi

No matter is it PvP or PvE, Voice Volume Selector would bring Realism into both way of play styles. Regarding PvP, you would be able to sneak on people , also, in specific situations you need to be aware of situation, would you put your voice louder so that your troops , 15 meters away from you hear you and proceed with attacking enemy position, or you would keep silent and use radio to call them. This will really come hand in PvP. Also, in PvE situations, with lot of people on Milsim Missions and events, when you have a group of 30 players, planning out , Platoon Leaders with Commanders, SL's with their Squads, it became, noisy, and you cant hear guy right next to you cuz you hear at same volume, guy that is 25 meters away from you.

And when you said Primarily PVP game, please dont mentione that often, cuz u can cause a huge amount of people getting angry over your statement. Reforger is Simulation, by that it is made for new players who enjoy PVP, as well as for the old players (I am one of them) that only plays PvE milsim events with mixture of PVP but still within Milsim Settings. There is no problem from my side ofc, I respect everyone ❀️ . But just a friendly hint to stay safe. Cuz if you cause arguments, there is a chance to get banned. And nobody wants that

Annd one more thing, yes it is fairly important for players to hear you, but you need to be smart to determent at what situations should you yell, whisper, talk normal, or whisper and use radio. To outsmart enemy, to use nature and foliage around you to sneak on them and get them all outplayed and killed. Imagine that situation where 5 man squad (yours) is going on slow approach on enemy position, and instead of sneaking on them, they hear you talking to your people trough walls , trees , bushes, 30 meters away πŸ˜‚ . They will know you are there, and whole game and plan falls in water.

Reforger was built around PvP

Whispering is sorely needed for PvP, we had quite some deaths due to non ability to suppress your own voice

I hope you will do something same for Reforger. For BI or for mod, doesn't matter

i wasnt involved in tfar in any other form, thats for more skilled coders. afaik reforger just doesnt have the API/support yet to mod anything in that direction

I've tried before many times.
The von.acp (file responsible for audio logic for voice chat) cannot read scripted variables, like other audio logic files.

For footsteps for example, I can add a variable that changes based on character weight.
I could make heavy characters have loud footsteps really easily.

But the von.acp does not read the variables(at least didn't ~3 months ago when I tested)

no matter what the others say but that is exactly what the game is missing.
and not everyone can scream at home.
Please implement the mod, it would greatly expand Gameplay.

This would definitely be really cool it's just unfortunately not possible currently as the von stuff is locked behind game code
