Yep. They made huge improvements to the engine over the life of A3 including being able to utilize hardware better over the decade its been out. It doesn't look better, but that super doesn't matter for Arma.
Not to mention AI, weapon feel, how helis/jets work, etc.
Multiplayer still had crappy perf because of how AI impacted, but SP just kept getting more performant.

Well dlss and fsr would be nice to make the game available for more people/more interesting because I can finally feed my high refresh rate display. Raytracing is just the future and if the game is supposed to be running for a long time, that would be a way to keep it decently looking.
It has a huge impact only on people who are subject to marketing trends.
- RT only supports about 200 games at the cost of large hw requirements and debatable benefit. RT can render about a thousandth of the native resolution pixels. It is still ridiculous.
- Upscaling is downgrade
- Frame generation is another strongly propematic thing that works only when you go above higher framerates like 60, 100..
- HDR maybe ok, but probably nothing that you would run to the store to buy a new monitor

whatever dude, i guess we play different video games, i honestly don’t remember having to activate dlss in recent memory (i prefer old school native resolution over downsampling to supersampling), i don’t care about hdr because i choose my dell monitors based on picture accuracy rather than hdr and high ref rates, i also don’t much care about current gen ray trace in games due to limited capabilities (noise and no of bounces)
Even GTA 6 may not support ray tracing and that will be the next best selling game.
i love raytracing for bakes and renders, but for games is gonna be a while till is usable

i didn’t get a chance to test it in cyberpunk just yet, but i have tested it in a real time rendering software solution where it does speeds up my workflow, but i wouldn’t say AI reconstruction is better than native, far from it
It looks better than previous iterations of ray tracing pixel blur. And thats all.
Anyway, you probably won't even see RT in Reforger or Arma 4, because that's not the direction they're going with it.
Play cyberpunk if you own it. It fights a lot of the ghosting that is related to pathtracing and generally improves sharpness of reflections

Look at the playernumbers of the raytracing capable titles vs the rest instead of just ripping the total numbers for all games
i am well aware that it is proprietary to nvidia. i own 3 pcs, all nvidia gpus (1x 3070, 1x 3080, 1x3090ti). The fact that some tech is not supported by consoles means that for a first multiplatform game for bi it might not worth the time and effort

Fsr doesn't look better than native. That much can be said. It is still a worthwhile addition. Especially if you run a game multiplatform

The rx5000 series cards (and subsequently the console gpus) just don't have a lot of asynchronous compute so thats why they are not the recommendation
we were talking about curent (or very recent) tech that bi could use to improve performance. fsr 3.0 possibly being one such cross platform feature (with certain limitations due to console hardware)
It will run fine on consoles. The upscaling part is still the same as fsr 2.2 and frame generation runs ok-ish on the hardware of the consoles
FSR 3.0 frame generation doesn't work if you want to make 30 frames into 60. Neither does DLSS.

most are quite stable but running 30+ large mods can sometimes cause things to conflict, leading to issues. im on xbox as well and havent had any problems since the last game update

not sure if this is the place for this kind of question, more geared to arma4 in the future / potential improvements, but with reforger/4 is there any chance we could have the ability to give slots like Map, Terminal, etc that normally dont have visible model capabilities the option? A large performance issue we face in our modding communities is having too many selections in one P3D for vast amounts of customization, which we have to pack densely due to limited slots to have visible models and many various locations and types of customizations. Those slots being uniform, vest, backpack, facewear, and NVGs. Opening up those additional slots like Navigation, Watch, Communication, and those listed prior would be great for splitting up the selections and opening up customization sets a bit further. I could even see people having their compass/radios/wristwatch actually visible on their persons in some capacity. Especially with ACE Extended Arsenal.
unlikely. However Reforger already offers more customization options to begin with. (and many mods take it a bit overboard with the options)

RHS has it to where magazines put in the vest are actually seen on the person don’t see why you couldn’t do it with other items but I’m not a modder so idk. Also don’t really see a need for it.
i hope they add this to vanilla, rn you can carry plenty of grenades but they dont get put in the holders, and there arent any mags sitting cozy in the pouches, it would be a small but mindboggling detail
I'm not too bothered about mags and grenades, but big items like AT mines or ammo crates should be visible.
i agree they should prioritize larger equipment first and if all goes well move on tosmaller equipment

Somewhat it already does, pouches work correctly on the different vanilla rigs (I can fit 6 PKM mags on one kit if I manage inventory correctly)
The issue is getting the right items to go into the right slots isn't easy, and especially when you can just shove everything in a backpack and be done with it

It's kinda meant to be quick interaction to make stuff either go into an inventory or out of it. With drag and drop functioning as the more controlled method.

So, why does the lighting get brighter if you look towards the horizon and become darker if you look at the sky ? Is this a real phenomenon ? It looks quite strange.
It's HDR (high dynamic range) which simulates the human eye adapting to changes in lighting conditions, it does happen in real life though in AR maybe it's just a little quicker and more noticeable. It's like when you go outside and you gotta squint cause its bright for a minute until your eyes are used to it
Yeah it's awfully noticeable. Moving your camera up and down makes it really obvious
you're describing exposure compensation (or dynamic exposure), not HDR, the game does not have HDR support
HDR equalizes light and dark areas to be equally visible on screen

Hello me and my budds are considering switching from A3 to Reforger. I was wondering if there is some ME units like Takistan Militia to play against as USMC or something like that, if not maybe chedaki? I want to stick with modern setting maybe some Armaverse from A2, is it possible yet?
because most people refuses to use it because it’s almost 3 gigs, which is unfortunate because all their stuff is top quality but i guess some people were also saying it was causing crashes on their servers.

yeah, that something indicates messed up config and you have to delete it, usually happens in between updates. (same with some keybinds not working etc)
It was more prominent when exp and stable used same profile folder.
They can make a different profile for experimental. Anyway, it's bugged even if you only have one version.

I've been unable to tune the radio frequencies. I press G and then R which work, but when I try and tune SCROLL WHEEL L CONTROL nothing changes ... I've deleted all mods and reinstalled the game but same problem persists with or without mods activated. Thanks for any help one can provide

That was pretty much always working (I Think) from time to time and is rather a bug, and hopefully this year. Experimental got updated today with the statement that it will be updated for atleast a month so some chance it will still appear before this new update gets to stable. If it won't appear in this upcoming major update then probably sometime early next year

Until new roadmap is released, its unknown
I believe the other roadmap content is coming. Everything on it needs to be completed and functional before Arma 4 releases. Those are all standard features for an Arma title, so it would make sense for BI to get them in a functional state in Reforger and then launch Arma 4 with those features already in the vanilla build

there is a bug when after you load the supplies at the supply depo and bring them to the base, the menu of the vehicle shows the information as if it was still at the supply depo and you cant acces the menu of the base
Anybody have any idea why nobody can hear me in game, I set my mic in steam and on my desktop. And rebinded the radio and talking key-bind to a key-bind that I’m familiar with. I’ve also completely relaunched my game and redownloaded it many times and it still doesn’t work. I’m on PC btw.

Have you resolved your mic issue? If not, shut down Steam, press WIN+R and paste this: "control.exe mmsys.cpl,,1", you should see your mic working. If so, do not close the sound controls window and start Reforger.

How do the pre built objects work in experimental? The base with structures, supply caches and encampment. I cant seem to get the prefabs to work at there locations
theyre a little wonky for me, supply boxes floating and stuff but you place them at specific locations marked with a blue dot on the location name pin

The PC player can aim better and abuse the 10x view distance they have over Xbox Players, and the Xbox players can keep the vehicle smooth and steady

AA doesn't necessary means guided missiles, could be like you said AA guns designed to take down helicopters

That's interesting, I'm testing different things on "scenario" gameplay in experimental. I'm playing alone and if I use this feature it moves me randomly couple of hundred meters away from the point I'm at

15 fps unless the effect lasts 5 seconds probably, the game is pretty demanding already. After all its a Simulation, add alot of players on top of that

Just watched videos of mudrunner. Never heard of the game before. Anyway, I think the physics side maybe doable... the visualization side, maybe not so much without tanking FPS... considering we can't even have wet clothes stay wet when we dipped into the water

Mud runner physics are insane
they are indeed, and in coordination with the smart, performant but good looking visuals the game is a masterpiece, snowrunner takes it to another level again visually

Both are on SSD (NVME), so I guess it should be fine? The mods are in default "My Documents" folder which is in main C drive (Windows), while the main game is another drive just for games.

Im thinking no way at all tbf. Mudrunner has softbody physics, which is another level of complexity. Basically a vehicle is a network of springy things instead of a box. Softbody physics are great, but I can’t see these working well in a 100+ player online multiplayer milsim, collisions just become so much more complicated.
like, even in optimal networking conditions, the server would have to simulate the squashing and bending of dozens of trucks, helis etc..
i was more thinking of the environment visuals side of things with mud, water, and vehicle surface effects, reforger already has a robust and good looking vehicle suspension and physics system but i agree soft body would be overkill, more just having mud and water flick onto things when driving, and the possibility of getting bogged based on surface friction values based on the amount of water on trails

on modern hardware definitely not demanding, I could see a general support for "thickness" (with a few other parameters) of surface materials that would allow simulating trails or footsteps
forza horizon did trails in 2016 and they ran fine on xbox one s but I think they were not mesh trails
I could see rain effects on windows, those would only have to be rendered pretty close to a vehicle/building

yeh I'm thinking the multiplayer is what makes this tricky. Ok if we're purely talking about a visual effect of players adding a visible trail to the world, kind of like bullet hole decals, fine.. But as soon as this stuff actually has any effect on players, like lets say deep mud trails from trucks, that would maybe affect how a jeep crosses it, they would need to interact with each other, and then you get to the basic and difficult problem of networked players acting upon, and being affected by, some shared thing simultaneously.
for visual effect, I think they've got a pretty convincing texture based approach already. Look at bullet hole decals, they look 3D but aren't. But I'm pretty sure there are excellent reasons why decals disappear after a short time...

How do build a helicopter pad ive spent better part of 4 days trying to learn and running supplys but bases max out at 650 and they require 850?
Bring more trucks, build more services and stuff, then it should give you more space
Every service has a supply depot in it now
there is an easier way go to specific capture points. the big ones needed to get points to win the map are usually loaded with thousands of supplies and dont require supply runs to build up a base for a helipad and helicopter

Fwiw stutters seem somewhat inconsistent between users, but there definitely is some related to texture loading. The game doesn't even use all the VRAM on my 1660 Ti but there's a lot of stuttering regardless of graphics preset.
There is definitely a big difference. Reforger appears more GPU limited at least without many AI, so the difference will depend on your resolution, settings, GPU
It's possible that the difference is less when AI is involved and in multiplayer because the game is running into a CPU limitation for some people, and in that case there will be less difference between graphics presets
At 1920x1200, medium settings, my 1660 Ti does about 45 fps, but there's a lot of stuttering related to texture loading. Paired with a i7-5775C.

Can we please get controller mapping (aka key binding) for the Xbox in this update? As amazing as all these new items and features are, it's clear that the controls on Xbox are getting really stuffy. The helicopter controls are a big example of this. They don't have the best controls at the moment... Controller mapping would help a lot, giving players the ability to fix this themselves
does rain affect traction while driving in reforger? I was doing a bit of rally driving to really dive into the driving model in game and turned on rain and I think it did affect it but that could just be placebo or something.

yeah i believe upnp can cause some big security issues. still wish it was there, took me like 3 hours to figure out the port forwarding and it still didnt work half the time
Additionaly, server app is free and doesnt even require steam account to run. You can install it on any pc and run your own dedicated server.
Which is recommended cause server takes waaay more heat than any other arma game in the past, as all stuff is now server authorative.
You do have to be tech saavy enough to make it run tho.
So if you play with up to 5 ppl, perhaps listen server (ingame host) will be enough. Beyond that, you will all just suffer.

I wasted 2 hours on the first day to ferry supplies across the island, with ultimate goal of building helicopter and crashing it into a tree, only for supplies to be eaten away by arsenal and and server crashes. Also helipad not getting allocated any supplies despite base having over 7000.

like i said, im aware. it said on the map that the base had supplies. but when i was searching the base for where those supplies were. they werent there. im 99% sure it was just bugged and either the supplies werent spawning or there were no supplies and the map UI was bugged

supplies can be stored at any service location built at the base, vehicle service, heli pad, armory, etc. they were probably at one of those.
don’t be dense guys. He’s stated multiple times he’s aware of that. It can either very much bug out or is at least absurdly difficult to understand where the supplies are really. I’ve had several situations where the base showed several thousands available for building, yet none available at a specific service, and you think ok, somewhere within the base radius there must be some I can relocate to this service. then you look around all the services etc and wonder where that thousands number comes from because you find: none.
some hidden stash in a warehouse somewhere? You go around looking. But you don’t find em. Then you go back to the command tent and see that it’s not thousands anymore because some helicopter addict took them all.
I’m thinking, the entire player facing logic of the supply system must be exhaustively describable in a few easy sentences. But it’s clearly not at this stage. There’s really weird edge cases in addition to bugs, where it’s entirely unclear what’s a bug and what’s by design.
Now personally, if there’s some weirdness to it, I can live with and actually appreciate.

(Last night snuck into enemy base and watched 4 guys for more than 30 minutes faffing about really hard trying desperately to get a Mi8, and it was mostly dismantling/rebuilding a helipad and general head scratching. It was hilarious to watch. But they definitely had the supplies, one guy kept bringing full trucks. Only it seemed they couldn’t stick the supplies to the helipad (they weren’t happy when they finally figured it out and immediately died after takeoff))

You may want to check its always on high performance mode after you unplug it.
This is actually quite normal for laptops, as most do not support the highest performance when not plugged in. So when unplugged, they drop automatically in many areas. It's just how it is

In conflict, AI despawn completely once there is no player close. It's not just you can't see them; they are not even there.

There is sort of a fix to this if you use binoculars, which can generate the body as well. PC has the setting for a higher render distance, im asking will console players ever get that
This is arma reforger channel, you should ask to arma 3 channels. But to answer your question, just spawn a soldier from the red team, and make him the squad leader for the units you want to change to the red team. Then you can delete the soldier and they will stay red.
The focus wasn’t about SEEING as in detection, it’s about the game properly rendering bodies that can be seen through scopes, binoculars, etc.

Maybe you only see head and heads because camoflage? the 4 pixels or whatever that make up the torso looking like the background.

That definitely is not camouflage lol. I don’t know if any of my videos show what I’m talking about but when you ADS and see a target (AI) approximately 600 out, you see hands and a head. You may be right in thinking it’s bug but I doubt it.

this is about the PiP scope, and the fact that you see a low-LOD through it. Basically the game gives you the same LOD through the scope as if you were not using the scope, if that makes sense. Thus you can zoom in on things that look like cardboard
this is not related to AI, it’s the same with players and everything. It just looks the weirdest with soldiers. At a certain distance the LOD doesn’t display helmets, further out more things get hidden…

my advice is to just play while plugged in, if you want to do on battery though you can disable some battery saving features in power settings and nvidia control panel for your GPU, but dont expect that battery to last long!
i mentioned this a long time ago, considering the PIP is a sepereate scene render they could make much more detailed lods, maybe they try this feature later on, it would make reforgers pip scopes amazing though! distant grass/foliage would be awesome too!
there’s that 1h:20m or so video on YouTube.. interview with Enfusion engine guy, that I can’t find rn.. he’s mentioned that this specifically is an issue. The requirement was 3D scopes without framerate drop, so they made them, but did that LOD trick to make them perform well. If 3D scope would use higher LOD, they would need to quote “gather the scene twice” which sounds like it would be a costly step in the render. I guess they haven’t gotten around to solve this yet in a way where it works well.

Mainly because they error out. I fucked up yesterday and cancelled one because it wasn't downloading. Couldn't find a way to stop the erroring and just deleted my cache. Generally if you repeatedly see errors from the same mods and can't be bothered to work around it clearing your cache is the best way. (If your on xbox)

I moved all the files inside "map" into the f_layer folder, and that what did it. I opened "f" after that and they were all gone. I later took the files out, and returned them how they were, but that didn't fix it.
ah that's interesting, since workbench expects only layer files inside layer folders I guess it tried to be smart and remove it
should report this on feedback tracker, a big error is preferable than a wipe
you could try to recover those files with some tool like recuva as a last resort

you cant change existing/third party animations, you can probably overwrite them through GUID collision though but then only one is active at a time

For the devs... Do you have future plans to integrate controls with flight peripherals into the Xbox game version??? I have a hotas-one and using helicopter (or mod planes) with joystick, rudder and throttle would be a major plus on console
I want to remind you that the possibility exists as Flight simulator on Xbox allows the simultaneous use of pad, keyboard & mouse and dedicated flight peripheral

When AI commanding comes, will they be available in conflict to command? I'm thinking you start off with a small team and then slowly build them up as you capture more territories

As of back then the commands were broadly in line with the 2022 roadmap's Move, follow, search and destroy, get in, while the 2023 roadmap only mentions basic commands

What they said; the roadmap promises more assets and gameplay features but the only nods to SP are for the GM (ability to save and to load a saved state locally or on a server where you have Game Master rights, and to pause/unpause the game during GM mode)
Is there any specific reason we have not seen game-modes created from the community? Outside of Armalife and Day Z the only one that comes to mind was the C&H BI mod. My brain would like to see that ass proof of concept. But if I had to guess I’m assuming the issue comes from the same limitation that stops us from saving progress and scenarios (ATM)
Srry if that comes across as “entitled”. Being as I don’t have a PC atm to tinker and learn for myself, I often try and find answers or ideas from those within the community who might have first hand knowledge, rather than continuing to use my renown speculation skills.
Besides the usual chicken-and-egg reasons that go into not nearly as many people playing for Reforger as for Arma 3... scenario making is supposed to be done through Workbench (Arma Reforger Tools) and thus is currently PC-exclusive
Before, I just wanted to wait for Arma 4 because Reforger is MP oriented. Then I got impatient because Reforger looks so pretty and new so I bought it anyway... I didn't regret it, just that I didn't play it as much as A3... So yeah... if you can be patient go ahead. If not, stay away. Don't even watch youtube videos about it. Because you'll get tempted... like me 🤣

Will we ever get functional crewed weapons?, aka Machinegunner assistant being able to load ammo for you while you are aiming your gun on a stable platform, Mortar crews being able to set up boxes of ammo and loading ammo for the person aiming the mortar or even the larger piece of artillery.
This was something accomplished somewhat in arma 3 with Ace interactions and such but i would love to have it able to be done in arma 4/reforger, this is something me and many people who like to use crewed weapons desire as it makes the weapons easier to use and more fun to use when you an a buddy can work together to use the weapon to its full effectiveness.
81/82mm mortars are on the roadmap but i dont know if BI has stated exactly how they will work. I assume that a crew of at least a gunner and loader would be used

Updating mods on a dedicated server
I run a small dedicated server (windows) for our local group of players and we use lots of mods.
My question is when or how do the mods get updated ? Doesn't seem to update on startup. If i delete the addon folder then it downloads it again on startup, but thats a bad way since I dont know what mods need updating

When I drop a vehicle from the prefabs folder into my level, it won't move. It starts up, makes sounds, and driver animations seem to work, but the vehicle just doesn't move. I've seen other people encountered the same problem, but nobody ever posted a solution.
Is it on a custom terrain? If so, make sure the terrain entity has the terrain option checked

You can pick what base friendlies cam fast travel to, you can tell squads of AI where to go, and you can tell AI to run logistics to some places instead of having players do it

They're purging mods which haven't been updated with the latest (current?) version of the Workbench, so even if the 1.0 release is "delayed" by 1-2 weeks it won't matter much.
That said; it helps to make mods 1.0 compatible when the game/workbench is up-to-date as well.
To be fair; it's a big thing to just mark everything incompatible, even when mods still work, but based on the previous updates (and bad support by the average "modder") it's a good thing to clean up the workshop and have less people complaining their game/server crashes.
Just be prepared for all the people asking where there favorite mod has gone 🤣

Resolution & object draw distance are two big ones. But its varies a lot. Best play around with them on your system, because different settings have different impact depending on your specs.

Guess "Post AA" and "Hardware AA" can be very demanding as well.
I never use them cuz they make things look very blurry.

all saved loadouts are not kept in memory so it shouldn't be noticeably different from without it
Yeah each loadout is like a handful of kb at most on the server disk, unless you have 1m+ its not going to take up any noticeable space

they are anywhere between 8k and 96k from what I'm seeing, still they are not all loaded into RAM so it doesnt matter, might be a bit slower if your server has a lot of traffic and is running on a medieval hard drive but then you'd run into performace problems way before loadouts started to matter
