in Old Man you can't, it's a lonewolf scenario
Calling in L'Ensemble insurgent teams to attack CSAT/Gendarmerie outposts and bases is all you can do. Can't command a squad of your own unless you use something like SSPCM + Zeus to spawn in your own units.
How can I call them?
If you have positive relations to them you can arrange for an attack at a L'Ensemble hideout (look for a whiteboard or table with a map).
Or alternately arrange for an attack over the phone.

however, one bug that i always get is with miller - i can never be in time, he won't spawn. have to go to the area, then leave the area, then i'll get the message about being late and after that he is there
It's a part of his dialogue. There's no alternate dialogue for getting there early so he'll always chastise you for being "late".
The radio bug thing shouldn't be happening in the release version. Was fixed back in the beta around the time Santiago's home furniture was lethal.
Then again...anything can start happening if you save/load the scenario enough times.
yeah, the load/cache system seems to work fine until it gets a hiccup of sorts and then it's game over.
as far as i can tell, it can't really fix itself, so once you have any issue there, it'll persist till the end of time
when i was playing lately, the syndikat attack quest seems to be kinda broken. i get the task that syndikat will attack location x and time y. when i get near the location, i'll get a phone call with "ok, we'll go now" and then the task is set as completed... nothing happens anymore after that
i can reproduce that in the attack task of the location where you have to bomb that one house in the beginning.
The radio bug is definitely still there. I had it warned others and they had it too
there's also some funny script errors, which i fixed now ๐
I know that Bohemia's focus is more directed to Reforger and Arma 4's development

I think it would be a good idea to include some of the stuff from upcoming and recently added CDLCs into the Old Man scenario. Specifically some of Western Sahara's firearms, or even the AP-5 Bustard drone.

As well as no need to own the DLC to use the gear, like with the IDAP and Contact DLC stuff in Old Man.

Manual saving always worked fine for me on Old Man however I needed to clear the settings folder at some point because the game got very broken after many saves

Playing Old Man on a fresh Arma install and no mods and after the first save + loading my "M" menu "phone" got its icons messed up... So now if I click the Call Log it opens up the "Contacts" submenu and both the "INTEL" and "CONTACTS" icons don't do anything now. Anyway to force that UI element to "Reload" so it is fixed?

i could never play a single playthru without that happening
it can get corrupted if the savegame gets too big or you reload too often
i tried to fix it a while ago, but i don't even understand half of how the mechanic works
most of the fixes i did for OM are just hacky workarounds that let you finish the game even if major parts of the quest system are bugging out
The only way I have actually gotten near the end is to only fast travel and single session
Loading and saving screws things a lot
One of the designers told me you can go to the end location and finish it without doing the whole thing but even that didn't work for me
it's shame, because the scenario in itself is very good. i like the virus outbreak theme a lot
reminds me of those old virus outbreak movies
i've tried to delete the hud and reinitialize it, but like said, couldn't figure out how to do it. it's a super complex mechanic
Sadly the whole thing is written without any good practices. Looking into the code can give you nightmares.

now i remember.. there are 2 major issues that can f things up: 1. the interface breaks (serialized variables issue). best identified if you load a savegame and see that the clock is set to the current daytime, but then won't advance anymore. this is annoying, but the mission is still playable. the 2. issue is the quest system breaking. i could not figure out what is causing this. every function related to the quests still works, but for some reason, even though the conditions are true, quest states won't change. this is what i fixed in my OM mod with workarounds. so while the actual quest system was broken, i was still able to read quest states and set them to how they should be with a crowbar, so players could continue.
It is truly sad because Old Man can be (when it works) one of the most unique experiences possible in Arma 3. I am still impressed that you guys tried to fix it even it wasn't possible in the end
"Half baked" can almost be synonymous to BI sometimes, hopefully that will/should change with A4 ๐
We should actually be happy that an official campaign came so close to being "as good as other AAA campaigns". Imagine if the quest system/UI did not break and it had coop. It would have been just TOO GOOD to be Arma 
The same with Contact. It came truly close to being AAA level. Even if it did not exploit the sandbox nature of A3 as well as Old Man. If Contact had its assets fully exposed to modders then the alien invasion theme would have made a lot more noise on the workshop level and therefore also in the DLC's sales potential

In my experience it isnt the save itself, but setting files related to them, Ive saved a lot with no save/load issues

very interesting storyline, the execution however was chaotic and buggy as many of you know. It really pinned down the fun I was having while playing the scenario, it's truly a shame that BI wasted so much potential here, but on the other hand I understand the decision of devs of not making the necessary efforts to fix all the bugs because from what I heard about the code, it's not pretty
it was made through Incubator and as Incubator states, it's "label for experimental games that are made available to the public", so the bugginess is kinda expected

yes and no, depends on many factors.
iirc stuff shown in each city/village you go through is a separate mission that is loaded into the currently loaded scenario. If you have a lot of mods or a faulty/slow disk it may stutter
Found the issue with some modlist bisecting. It's caused by the Aegis/Atlas/etc series of mods. That's quite annoying, because I really like those.

Not sure - I tend to have those mods loaded if I play 2035 setting and it's never a problem. But perhaps there are scripts in Old Man that expect certain things. The stutter is definitely of the scripted kind, repeating every second or so.
Got a bit of a technical problem with the Old Man scenario on Arma 3. When I reach the point at which Keystone tells me to take the thumb drive the mission description doesnโt update when I pick it up. Hence, when I try to plug it into the computer tower at the sawmill it does nothing even if I donโt have a CSAT security card. In other words, Iโm stuck at this point in the mission. I did some Google searches on possible fixes but didnโt find anything helpful, so Iโm wondering if anyone here happens to have any ideas on how to fix this issue.
Without access to the debug console there's not much you can do, I'm afraid.
You can ignore that quest by the way. It's not actually mandatory to do and you can bypass the sentry guns on Tuvanaka Island.

You have to go to the island on your own regardless. It's the main quest for the scenario after all.

Disabling the sentry guns just makes it slightly less risky but you can still get past them so long as you wear a disguise and don't walk too close to the autoturrets.

The main quest? You can attempt it from the very start and finish the scenario even if Miller doesn't tell you about it.
All it requires is blowing up the biolab so you'll need some satchels.

The C4 you get at the start works too if you place it on the truck, then place that truck right next to the big storage tank
(If I understand correctly, the C4 is weaker than a satchel, so as far as I know you need to place it more precisely/use multiple)

Old Man is a semi-open world mission. Think Far Cry in a sense. Choose the path you want, when you want, unless its the wrong choice, then dont do that....

Could it be possible to also fast travel with vehicles? That'd be sick, as I keep all my gear inside of them.
Also, I'm having a few perfomance issues. I got a pretty bad CPU (2.67ghz, along with 10 gigs of cheap ram and a 4g graphic card) but I keep on dipping below 15-20 FPS, and rarely go over 30.
Tanoa+lots of scripting+2.67Ghz=15-20fps
and people want to play it in multiplayer... imagine the performance :>

I don't mind 30 FPS, but getting stutters between 5-10 FPS is slightly annoying

Actually some feedback: I've noticed that when the CSAT drones fly around your vehicle during a checkpoint, they sometimes damage themselves. When I drove a Zamak into the control, it got slightly damaged.

Wanted to play the mission today, but I started with 25fps and ended up with 18. Anyone else having fps issues?
I had, disabled PiP and it's quite OK
So at the ||initial outbreak checkpoint, parked my truck see if I could talk to IDAP folks. Police freaked out started pointing there guns, got in my truck...then they all just migrated north....didn't shoot at me(although I felt if I left my truck they would of). Eventually just drove through the zone because there was no one at the barricade||. Guessing bug?

Its not actually an object that is used physically
to make factions clearer, they need to respond quicker, when you're shooting up a friendly faction the first time
they need to radio immediately
its also an easy way to get your first weapon
just shoot a friendly patrol up
they wont shoot back
Honestly, Old Man is superb. It could almost be seen as a Showcase for Tanoa and its many stunningly beautiful places. For once you aren't a soldier transported around with helicopters and armored vehicles, you are a simple man. Of course, you yourself are an actor in the war but you are still just a man.
I really enjoy seeing Tanoa like this, and hope Old Man gets expanded as much as possible since this is what I always hoped to see in Arma.

UHH you wat son, SO apparently i glitched into the floor slightly in first safe house and died. I just got full csat gear too, after only 10 min of play thanks random ambush 5 meters from safe house. ๐ฆ Oh well that's where this story ends, the old man tripped, broke his hip and died from living in the middle of no where.

still to those with fps problems playing this mission turn pip off i went from 20-30 fps upto 55-60 fps just turning that off

although the campaign does add a lot of stress to the engine, because a lot of stuff is happening in the background (which is probably why it's only SP, because it would kill a server for sure)
from the first 10 min i played of it, it seemed pretty good.
What PiP features are being used in the mission though, shouldn't effect fps unless it's being used by like car mirrors, reverse cameras, tank cupolas etc.

has to be i mean the amount of custom scripting must be mind boggling for this scenario.
PiP has been a FPS killer since it was introduced, since it basically renders 2 (or more) things at the same time, which is hard work for your GPU.
on my previous system I could not turn it on at all, because it went from 30 to 5 FPS when driving a vehicle...

recomended to me is this is what you need to get 60 fps and have it not look like a potato
nobody claims that it will allow you to run 60 FPS... or says you will ever be able to run 60 FPS in Arma
yes but these are the specs recomended by the dev to run this game at or near its average quality
i guarentee you build a rig with those parts you are recommended you wont get more than 20 fps on standard settings
on the recommended specs you can play SP missions on 30 FPS average with medium settings, although Arma has always required you to tweak your settings based on your hardware

Help: Gendarmerie tell me to 'drop the weapon' despite me not having any gun out ; they're stached inside my Backpack and such.

Some mechanics i don't get yet:
- It says something like, you need a bedroll in your inventory to save and it's a one time use.. but after sleeping somewhere i still have the bedroll in my inventory
- I shot at a few police units and now the map is all red. How do i get back into "low profile" mode again?
- What exactly is forbidden in military checkpoints? I rolled up to one with a truck full of guns and explosives and I had a clean passage
- Is there some hidden fatigue stat that i need to keep care off? (Old men need their sleep), or is sleeping only for saving?
- Can i just take any unlocked vehicle without repercussion?
Low Profile is sort of like skyrim, basically wait it out and avoid csat/police from seeing you.

The issue with your beadroll might just be a bug, I haven't run into that happening with me.
Sleeping is only for skipping time, saving or for healing. As far as I can tell.
With the locked vehicles, so far I think only csat/police care about you stealing vehicles, the civilians don't care about their vehicles at all.
And of course don't try to drive past them in a stolen police/csat vehicle as they will definitely care about that.

There's a script which calculates the threat of the items in your vehicle towards CSAT. It takes all pistols, rifles, launchers and ammo, which is then subtracted by the size of the vehicle (eg. boxtruck can hold more "illegal" item than a quadbike)

An issue:
When you approach Gendarmerie at all, they tell you to get lost no matter what. Even if you are as far away from them as possible. I tested it out multiple times, and even just walked around with no gear at all, and they still called me out. This should be fixed as you should still be able to blend in with Civilians.
They just don't like it when you get too close, or get near locations you shouldn't be at
Yeah but the issue is I am always in safe areas, + If I accidentaly got too close and immediately back off they still target me eventually
I know the the AI base the alert off if they can still see me, but this atleast be changed for Gendarmerie. Like, if they tell you to back off and you do so they go back to "Safe".

Also something else that confuses me: If I pass Checkpoints with for example a gun in the inventory of my vehicle, it usually does nothing. Although if I keep it in my own inventory, they yell that I'm disobeying orders and shoot me.
Seem good so far but there is slight problem with feeling of the "mod" or "dlc" where are the females the children? This is civilian focused game mode/DLC and it feels dead! Can you fix that?

But I agree it still feels a bit empty, although it does fit the story.
Regarding woman and children; woman are still an issue due to gear compatibility, so I don't think it will ever be supported officially. Children will never be added as far as I know, to prevent issues with killing them (and pushing it to PG-18)
Arma 2 had female AI, but were extremely buggy when used by real players.

On tanoabuka island, I have noticed that if something is over .5 km away from you it freezes simulation (don't move and cant be destroyed) so helos just stop moving in the sky which is quite odd

It's the only vehicle I can think of that has very little crash protection, hitting a thick brush will hurt you.

I've already played with the modules and there's just to much stuff not fully working yet, or requires internal dependencies (eg. module A requires module B, but only when module C doesn't exist)...
So I would wait till the stable version of Old Man has been released before porting it to other terrains (not to mention the amount of configs and scripts required).

using time compression seems to severely break the mission to the unplayable

||Harcourt Northbound|| checkpoint is either broken or just very sensitive. It's the only checkpoint that I can't seem to get through cleanly without blowing past it. I have attempted 6 times, using the x key to assure I don't reverse by accident.
On that note, when it comes to blowing past checkpoints, the AI don't seem to respond well. Maybe add some punishment for doing it? Like closing the checkpoint off for so long, or having them send a helicopter to track you down.
The "action" music is so annoying. It starts playing at times that seem to effectively be random (no enemies in sight at all) and since there's only one such music track it gets annoying really fast. Fortunately, you can always turn the radio on and then off to stop it

spoilers for after you do the dive mission/blowing up the Dome ||so I blew up the dome by myself without doing any of the extra stuff. I went to Miller and whatever he started talking about the greater good I shot him in the face I went to go steal the submarine that they had but I couldn't get in the driver seat and whenever I got into the passenger seat I couldn't get out, I understand that it's a semi rare occasion to be shooting Miller in the face but please just for once let me do that with no repercussions? I kind of understand that that was supposed to be the end of the campaign though.||
Since the old saves will not work on the updated scenario, maybe we could use some cheat codes to finish missions and quickly reach the point we were at, after update?

I tested the save on exit a few times, where I would save on exit and enter the game and see if it was good, and it was always good
it will save and exit even if you alt+f4
but if you then load again afterr loading that
it will have deleted the save on exit
and load your previous real save
So i guess save on exit isnt counted as manual / user save then, but automated, so it will overwrite it?

After ||delivering the transport truck to the doctor for his Ill camp -|| I ran into one of the houses near the site he was located, and there were two dogs stuck inside eachother, in the attempt to leave the house, I turned around, ran into the table, and died.
Also some of the Intel laptops are halfway stuck through some tables.
I also went down the hill, and stole their truck because why not. Drove it up hill and got away with no damage lol.
I ended up stealing the Tempest Ammo vehicle
Without a weapon, so it was a little too easy
well half the point of this mission is you don't need a weapon
it gets more difficult the more havoc you make
if you kill a LOT of CSAT they will send jets that will blow up cars you have been using and such

At first it made me very angry because of bugs and especially being killed by simply brushing up against objects...
but then I remembered it was 'beta'
so I swallowed my anger and kept going for a while
and I gradually realized that it was extremely good!
One thing I like especially is that voice acting is kept to a minimum. In Contact there was too much damned talking, especially from bad voice acting (self) main character
in OldMan the main character does not speak at all! EXCELLENT

final bug i found in old man: When you do a sleep or fast travel, everything is blurry when you 'wake up,' but slowly everything becomes clear and returns to normal. When I was on the island for the final mission (tuvanaka?) the blurring was permanent, there was no way to fix it.
Also, not sure if that was fixed but fast travel did not take any time for me (last time I checked that, it was before the update). It said how much It was going to take but I was transported instantly, anyway

There might be a bug in the way radios are spawned: each time I come back to my house, there's a new radio in the living room in addition to the existing one(s)

well, my saved game has turned to be unplayable ๐
for some reason, things take minutes to spawn:
- phone calls I receive take minutes to complete, with one sentence by keystone every minute, for example
- no more checkpoints, civilians, or anything else, it looks like everyone left Tanoa and I'm the only one left
- when I die, the game takes a lot of time to register it, and I can't do anything at all, just wait for the death report to appear for at least 30 seconds
this has happened to me too
after using timecompression when boating or driving around
oh, didn't time compress, but definitely happened right after I used a boat
When I die, my save file gets corrupted and I cannot play on it anymore.
Can also confirm the anecdote about the scenario becoming unplayable if you use time compression. I do use some quality of life mods like enhanced movement and JSRS, but I'm not willing to try and reproduce it without mods since I was at the end of the scenario when it started occurring.

How do I finish the destroy silo mission? The attack happened, the AIs planted the bomb and blew up both silos, and nothing happened since then. No confirmation. The Task still hangs "attack begins in 5 minutes, find a good position and wait". I have since left the island to do the main task.
I've also had the same issue and, frankly, this was the mission that made me stop playing the scenario almost two months ago (and I haven't gotten back to it since then) because sadly it made me realize how frustrating the scenario is because of the broken scripts here and there :(
Don't get me wrong: I love what BI has done so far but that mission looked like one that errs on the "rather important for the plot" side and being unable to finish it is probably preventing me from progressing further somewhere later. So I decided to wait until they fix it, before playing again.
...or this actually really is a small "side-quest" that's not important enough for them to fix, because they have bigger problems elsewhere ๐คทโโ๏ธ
Too bad, I was starting to somewhat enjoy the scenario even with all the clunkyness.
If any devs actually read this, I would recommend to enable fast travel with the vehicles at bases.
Also maybe a high end merchant with decent scopes and suppressors since a lot of missions are either one man against an army, or stealth orientated.
yas do understand its still listed as 'beta' how about doing some 'beta' work and reporting it, instead of moaning over it like it was released as final when its not even final in the first place.

ya need to be specific on exactly what you doing. old man relies on trigger areas if you arent. "find(ing) a good position and wait(ing)" it wont adv. Contact is the same way.
Marius' report seems a bit strange in that it seems to contradict itself a bit (task says the attack is in 5 minutes, but he states the AI has blown the silos already so the attack must have started).
Maybe it's just an omission and the task description is simply not updated, but what I also remember (from 1.5 month ago) is that people were reporting that they went into position, the attack started (so we/they were at the right position), the silos have been blown up, and then literally nothing happened. I had the same thing myself, even though I reloaded the save and retried multiple times.
What happened was the thing you described in second paragraph above ^
Everything went fine as it should until the silos get blown. Then nothing.
Some people suggested this was an issue caused by saves but I can't verify this claim.

I encountered a bug where after retrieving the secret documents from the Harcourt base I approach Miller and he just says "Welcome back" and no option to give him the documents appears.

@fallow grove are you running Oldman in vanilla environment? Did you start mission from beginning or did you load the game after update?

I cant deliver the top secret docs to Miller as part of locating the CSAT unit, any advice?

It appears that if you move time ahead to a meetup time around a delivery point, it breaks that delivery point
I got them when ordered to, and went to the meeting point with Miller, and arrived before I was supposed to
So I waited at that spot until the meetup time
that isn't timed
Pretty sure he didn't show up at the spot until 3
miller hangs out there for several tasks after the first time he tells you to meet him there
whhen you get the docs from harcourt he is already there and there's no meeting time
I'm only thinking it is that way because I wasn't able to deliver the ID Card to the contact after waiting at the delivery point, but I was able to if I waited outside the delivery point

Hey, I just "completed" the campaign, aka teleported myself to the Dome and just destoryed it. I chose Syndikat ending, but I only see a black screen, instead of text and images, but still hear music and ambient noise.

No, it shouldn't be broken. I completed ||Miller's Ending|| and ||The Doctor's Ending||, and got the cutscenes. It's just the ||Syndikat Ending|| which got me issues, even with cheats.

At the bery beginning, when you're supposed to go and retrieve the explosives: you stop the car at the village and, 3 times out of 4, the guy that was driving with you tells you he'll show you where the explosives are, walks for about < 20 meters and gets stuck there, just standing. The only thing that I think I may have been doing wrong was stopping the car too late, in the village and not outside of it.

More bugs
simple solution drive the car thru the village slow and go stop towards the back of village. basically bring him closer to it. its happened to me a few times its how I avoid it happening again.
Obviously, I figured out the location of the explosives myself and when you go back to him with the explosives, the mission continues so that's alright to me, I don't need any workarounds.
However, taking into account the fact that it's literally the first mission that you have in the whole scenario, having the NPC becoming stuck is probably not the thing that BI want its users to see, in their first 5-10 minutes of the game ๐
yeah it worked for me the first few times then suddenly he started to take a path not thru the village but would try and walk behind the long house and then just stands there behind it. never could see why far as I remember when I looked at it in editor didnt see nothing to indicate why he doing it.
Iโve figured out you can just grab a truck and you can go around the road block. Then drive up to him. Talk to him. And when you get into the truck heโll get in too no matter what
yes its after he gets in the truck and spoilers after that... it'll make sense when you get go to drop him off. thats where the problem lies he sometimes walks a odd route and get stuck never showing you the objective location itself. (which hes designed to do)
its random when it happens and could just be related to timing in when he says 'we're here' and where you park and get out and where exactly.

After doing the first combat mission with L'Ensemble, at every point when walking by Gendemaries or CSAT I was immediatley shot. I'm not sure what is wrong, and it's not going away/not wearing off.
wearing any gear with a ! on it? that would be one reason. weapons showing would be another.

I went trough the first checkpoint and I'm generally unsure of where to pull up, even on the area on the right when I pulled in and shut off my engine it didn't feel like the game responded
You need to pay attention to the soldier that is standing and doing gestures with his hands
He will be giving you signs to advance and his animation will change when he wants you to stop
If that's still unclear, you can always watch the first minutes of a playthrough on Youtube to see where others pull up ๐

tried it two times without infistar, no BE error. Tried it again with Infistar no error. So its inconsistent
that script above should not be firing, idea is that maybe infistar somehow triggers it

Noticed something. When reloading a save, it seems my map hud begins to "bug out". Basically making most of the buttons in the top left of the map window being swapped around, and some even unusable.
Edit: Gets fixed whenever going back to the menu and resuming/restarting game.
If you have rangefinders on you they're considered as a weapon and the AI will kill you

That you can mess up a raised gun, turning it into a lowered gun that you then cant break down without being unable to recombine? That's a bit more troubling. Same thing, it just truncated the high from the item name, but still.
@austere hearth I had not considered that possibility. Will have to see if that's the case later; in the latter bug, though, the backpack does change to the non high version, not just changing the display name.

The checkpoint system is kind of janky and not explained well to new players, after 4 reloads at a save point I figured out I needed to go off the road to trigger the drone scan. Maybe add a sign infront of the median hedgehog pointing to the way you need to go?
It was explained when you had Arthur driving home and got to the first checkpoint
Not sure why you'd think that. The checkpoint soldier literally waves his hands in an obvious fashion.
Motions you to come forward = keep driving slowly towards him.
Motions you to stop = you stop and turn off the engine for the drone to scan.
The only inconsistency is the drone itself with its "scanning" process. Sometimes it picks up contraband and other times it doesn't.
did they fix signaling cuz he used to signal ya the wrong way. they'd point to their left and looking at them you'd think go right but they dont.
