Hi all. My arma was working fine last week but now everytime I'm 10 minutes into a game it freezes then crashes, saying status access violation. It happens when playing RIS. I can't even go into the editor because when loading a map the game freezes then crashes and it says status application hang. I've tried doing the troubleshooting methods mentioned in videos but no luck. Is something wrong with my pc or am I missing something?
Could be. Note the time these hangs happen. If Arma's RPT log file doesn't say anything around that time, try looking into Windows Eventviewer. It has some categories of events, search the application or system categories. It might show events indicating hardware issue or other stuff. Though they can be quite cryptic. At least is is a source of some more information of what is going on inside Windows.
I don't know anything about RIS, so don't know if it is just a processing heavy scenario or mod.
RIS is random infantry skirmish, you can play scenarios with ai such as push, team deathmatch and king of the hill
Maybe the scenarios are to intense for my cpu and memory
I have a intel i7 6700k, 3.42 ghz with 16gb of ram, no OC
I have even set parameters to default. It seemed to have got the game running a little longer but it still crashed
I haven't tried the -profiles thing because i don't want to f up my whatever I put in my cfgs

Don't mess with -profiles commandline parameter if you just play singleplayer or localhosted. It will only mess up where Arma 3 thinks your profile is stored. So it will likely create a new default profile for you. It won't be the cause of status access violations I think.

Yes, I am kind of glued to my computer and discord right now. But that doesn't mean I have any knowledge in this. I have never seen or downloaded that tool.

At best I can say that your question is a bit lacking. So you have that menu and want to do something with Publisher. Press the button perhaps? And if that does not do what you expect it to do, what are you expecting to see? Or what other thing happens when you do? Are you aware of the other channels under the Arma 3 Creative Editing category? Maybe people in one of those know more, as they have gone through it publishing their mods.

the publisher button should open an application where u upload your mods in to steam workshop, but when i click it i get that message; "Application settings are corupted and will be reseted"

Sorry, can't help with that. Never used it. Don't know where those settings are stored, or what could have caused them to go corrupt.

Yeah its really annoying. RPT is not much of a help because at the very bottom it only has the status access violation error log which doesn't state anything that would point me in the right direction. I would think maybe it's a ram or cpu issue due to the RIS scenarios being cpu and memory intensive but I don't understand why the game also crashes when clicking a map and loading editor.
I was able to play the game fine last week. Two days ago I played a ris scenario and after like 30 minutes it crashed. Yesterday the game crashed after 5 minutes of game play

Also the editor issue happened yesterday. All I remember doing was switching 64 bit to 32 bit and when it didn't fix the issue I just switched back to 64 bit.
If it is the status access violation message that suggests to upload the crash files to the feedback tracker, then do so. Though it might take some time for the devs to get to it in the new year.
Yeah its the one that says if you can't solve it yourself to submit the report

I have 1,058.6 hours on arma and never really encountered these crashes before
You are groping in the dark now, right? They might be able to find something out with a flashlight in those crash files. Best you can do now. Even if it takes time.
whats the exact access violation error you get? as there are many types
there are some possible fix suggestions on the BI wiki for few of them
as for this, problems might arise from windows/other software updates, file corruption, hardware changes and so on. Computers are unfortunately rather unstable in the long run

you can make a bug ticket at the feedback tracker (also you cat try searhing it in case theres ticket for same issue from before)

I cant say I have recollection of your issue coming up often (or ever) so it is likely rare

Happens when trying to open editor
unfortunately that one dont seem to have any recommended solutions on the wiki
could be you have some corrupted files
try deleting your profile folder in "my documents" and the fame files from the install folder and then run the file verification tool to redownload them back fresh
(you can make backup of the profile folders too)
if you have any saved missions and such there you want to save
I'll just try the troubleshooting methods already mentioned in this channel. Playing with the parameters and such

well mods can have issues
easy way to try is to do what you tried to do but without any mods on
that usually reveals if its a problem with mods pretty fast

Used assets (try to be exact, like from which Mod or classNames): no mods
Loaded Mods: no mods
PC specs (OS, CPU, GPU, RAM etc) win11, i511400, gtx1070, 8gbx2 3200mhz
RPT files
Unload the mod to get rid of it. And contact the mod creator so they may be able to fix it.

More likely you're doing something that's causing Arma to feed broken garbage to it.

Not strictly true. XAudio crashes have happened without sound mods previously.
Like there was an old bug with USB headsets and mono audio.

Ran a tank op tonight on the 73 easting map, multiplayer with about 30 people vs AI. Intermittently, some users' frames would drop to about 5fps, uniforms would start tweaking out and the vehicle LODs would start phasing in/out to their distance model. Everyone eventually just crashed out. The RPT log showed no valuable info other than the usual "21:47:53 Client: Network message e6768 (update info 9f303a68) is pending"
Any ideas what would cause this?

If so, clients could delay it by using higher -maxMem values, but someone at BI might be interested if you have a good replication case.
IIRC “proper memory flush” has been introduced into Profiling Branch already, if it works for you though

@uncut trellis i have tried with multiple plane mods, and also tried unloading all mods except the scenario and one jet mod and it's still happening, its forcing all firewill jets to get this reskin, other jets like the mig29 mod work fine
this is the f-16 skin and i previously shared the f-14 skin too

But did you remove the mod to verify that or you're just surmising. Because the rpt literally points to the audio DLL, so an audio related element is causing it to hang, and you're still insisting it's not related to sound.
On a side note, red squadron sounds is the shittiest mod out there made by someone who wanted to rip out squad sounds or whatever game they are stolen from but didn't necessarily understand how to replace them in game.
Just tested and the crash trigger was the sound mod. No crashes or hanging when I un ticked it
Red squadron must have been included in the Isky sound mod so I didn't know one of my mod's had the files from it.

If it's a large mod then yeah it's normal for it to hang, just be patient. Although sometimes I have to restart the process twice

how would i go about splitting a PBO into multiple PBOs?
ive got a 2GB PBO that im trying to sign but it keeps failing to sign and im pretty sure its because its too big, how would i go about splitting it up into 2 or 3 PBOs

- You can split PBOs into multiple PBOs, just pack and use multiple PBOPREFIX

Obvious answers I can say is just "you're playing a mission that doesn't support it" or "You're not loading it", anything else cannot be told from what you say so far
define what you expect as them working in game and then we could tell you the reason why its not like that

Hey all! Looking for some guidance on MOD restrictions. We have a dedicated liberation server, and when we first set it up, we left the “verify signatures” to 0, and we had randoms join us to play, but we also got a TON of hackers. So now we have it set to 2, but we get no one now.
Is there a middle ground some where? Can we setup a white list/black list for mods?

If you add keys to the keys folder, it'll allow those mods.
If mod authors used the same key for multiple mods then it'll allow all of them though.
There's no good way to do a blacklist as far as I know.

You don't need the SOG prairie fire compatibility mod for non-owners to play the Eastwind Campaign. So disable it.
Don't play with mods either. They might disrupt it depending on which mods they are.

Just try it and see if the mods work. If they make the scenario work bad, rip those mods out and start over in the scenairo
Read the descriptions of workshop scenarios if it requires mods, or if it is not compatible with some.

The scripting of the scenario can break too if it relies on you having/using certain stuff. The VR-Arsenal isn't enough of a test to be sure it works.

I don't know, try it, like I said. But be ready to disable some if it works funky. Expect ACE to not work with vanila scenarios and campaign missions/showcases.

I have a high end system. I use a lot of AI to obtain various images and recordings. However, after AI spawning in Arma 3, the fps in the game drops to 30s. While FPS is decreasing, the system reaches a maximum of around 50%.

Arma's typically limited by single-thread performance. You can't do much about that other than upgrading hardware or reducing display settings.
As hardware, I use i9-13900k, 64 GB RAM, 3090 Ti. I think reduce the graphics is the only option
how much is lot of AI you mentioned?
Note that we've seen quite a few cases recently of hardware massively underperforming for no clear reason. I don't know if you're one of those without a YAAB result though. Frame rate falling off with object count is normal.

Also, before I formatted my computer 1-2 weeks ago, I was getting exactly the conflict I wanted in Arma 3. Ai was making more than 4-5 shots to hit another ai. Now that number has dropped to 1 or no shots.

How should I explain, my English is not good: There is an AI, when it sees another AI, it shoots about 3-5 times to kill it.
When I install Arma 3 after formatting, AI sometimes doesn't shoot for a while or shoots once to kill.
Ok, so you are saying your game performance increased after reformating your drive/windows install and the AI benefited from that. Could be that you had a lot of tasks and stuff taking CPU time before the reinstall. Or you didn't install a mod that used excessive processing in the past (because you forgot it this time), which now causes the AI to benefit it seems.
So I am not sure if its a mod or just part of the base game but I have an intermitent issue with players selecting their spawn point.
From what I can tell when you allow players to select their spawn point this is how it goes:
- player selects a slot and selects join or what ever
- a bluefor unit representing the player is spawned on the map while the players game loads.
- once the map loads up, the player can then select their spawn which kills the temporary spawned in bluefor
What I find happens is that this whole process can get really glitchy. specifically if anything happens to the temp bluefor unit in step 2, it can soft lock the game for the person spawning in. is this just how it works, is his some mod I am unware of. is there a way to fix this/work around it
I search the discord and others have reported similar things, but most of they time they come back and say "we tried again and it worked now" (specifically when this bug causes the user to be stuck on the map screen with no options but to ALT+F4)
Thats the thing is I don't think those folks realize the nuance of what is happening, and why it suddendly works. anyone have any additional info on this functionality?

the problem is indeed with step 2; the player object gets assigned to a unit which has been placed in the mission (in the editor, to define the amount of players possible). This unit must be within the terrain boundaries, otherwise it will default to coordinate 0,0 (bottom left of terrain), which in a lot of cases is water.
This default spawn location also seems to be used when something goes wrong between the server and client while loading (eg. lag spike, script errors, etc.).
At step 3 the player is teleported to the selected spawn point, however the unit can be dead (drowned) or not fully initialized yet (usually mod scripts) causing issues.
Something that I found to be working 99.9% of the time is the following:
- in the config, set
respawnOnStarton 1. Forcing a respawn when joining the server, which will prevent some technical JIP issues. - in the config, set
respawnDelayto at least 3 seconds (we run 10 seconds). This will allow scripts/mods to initialize on the player object, preventing a lot of issues. - make sure the initial units (in 3den) are placed within the terrain boundaries, to prevent them from spawning at 0,0
- some missions have custom respawn scripts (like Liberation), which are different from the core respawn functionality and tend to work a bit smoother, but usually don't work very well with custom scripts, mods and custom missions. Keep that in mind.
At in our community mod we even go a step further by manually by setting the player to invincible at join and spawn, and only remove that status when fully loaded in the game (so after the re-spawn).

30 fps is enough for Arma.
I get similar results when playing missions on high density map, I have similar rig but with 5 2600x instead.
Yeah it just sucks then, SOG just barely runs well
lower the view distance then.
then buy a better CPU, not much more you can do, you won't reach 60 fps on maps like this anyway unless you know how to overclock the top of the shelf hardware.

31 fps is pretty bad for a 3600 though. I get 50 with a stock 3700X and trash RAM.
Found out something.
I had about 50 odd mods based on the FALLOUT mods and I started too run average of 60 - 100, now that could be the Mojave map has not much in it

If you just drop yourself in some open-ish bit of Altis in the editor you should get 100+ fps, barring vsync caps.
YAAB is fairly harsh, but a better impression of what you'll get in common MP scenarios.

I’ve been trying to install scenarios in general recon ops, arma 3 swat, dynamic ops mostly what I want to play but when I click subscribe nothing happens it says I subscribed to it and just nothing happens I tried using a web manual downloaded and that works sometimes but it’s a pain in the ass going through and making new file location for each individual scenario I want to play

I go on LAN and I select host a server but my brother cannot see it or join it I told him to direct connect by putting the IPv4 into the address but its not working it doesnt do anything
The troubleshooting gets quite technical at that point. General problem categories:
- Machines are not actually on the same subnet.
- Arma traffic isn't allowed through the firewall.
We have played LAN on other games so they are on the same network
But we are doing it correctly in game?
Then Arma 3 is probably not allowed to accept incomming traffic in the firewall.

People with a large load of Arma mods on their game never put themselves in the place of their system. If you have a bazillion things on your mind you never notice you start forgetting things and making mistakes because you can't remember it all? Or carrying a huge backpack with stuff you don't need for ages, and then you wonder why you are getting tired and exhausted while walking. (And I don't mean ingame stamina, I mean actuall luggage!)

I received this message in my RPT. "[ACE] (medical_engine) ERROR: updateDamageEffects: Unit not local or null [<NULL-object>:]" Causes game to crash out completely after receiving in-game message "[Player Name] is losing connection" followed by either a yellow or red chain icon, player freezing and crashing after 90 seconds. The first one sounds like overheat and accidental discharge, you can tune it down in Ace parameters (or another jamming mod you use)

By placing your mouse over some options, some have an extra description that appears to help you
Sounds like a broken mod rather than ace overheating or you are using some weird HE ammo i know some mods add that to shotguns and the second one also sounds like a mod issue because from what i remember moded chemical weapons weren't that great to begin with

So my Arma is completely unresponsive when joining any online server and have to restart my PC to stop it. I've tried no mods, official severs, firewall settings, XML removal, clearing caches, verifying game files, and completely un and reinstalled and still no luck. It gets to the black screen and says that I use modified data file then becomes unresponsive. Any insight helps..

Does it tell you what files are bad? If so, delete them manually and verify integrity again

You enabled a bunch of mods the server doesn't want you to use. Disable them in the mods tab in the launcher.
Or if you are absolutely sure the server admin want players to use them for the scenario, then its admin didn't put the mods bisign key files in the server keys folder.
But do list the names of those mods/files. If those are of the Arma 3 game files then something corrupted or didn't fully update your install.

if so, you could google the PBO name (digi_ace_extension_gas_more) and by now you would already know that you are using a chemical warfare mod that is not compatibile with the newest version of ACE. Make the author of that derivative mod to update his work, or find an older version of ACE to play with.

Yes, the shooter is incapacitated/killer as soon as it is fired. Sort of the same animation for backblast.

We have a lot of mods, we can't replicate it enough; some missions it happens, some it doesn't. All with the same mods & server settings.
I'm just wondering if anyone else has ever experienced this or would know where I could look to find the cause of it, short of playing jigsaw pulling & piecing mods to replicate.
the cause of it is "a lot of mods", it's no longer the TFC issue if it doesn't happen when used on its own

hello! im trying to play one of the missions in the east wind, but whenever i die and load a save it says "you cannot play/edit a mission on deleted content" I have tried verifying the content of the game files, and i have no mods enabled. i have most of the dlcs, i dont have any creator dlcs and i dont have the global mobilization dlc. Any ideas?
This means your save recognizes your some loaded Mods that you don't loaded in right now

I run a server using hosthavoc, I have a specific problem with my mod list/mission file
It keeps saying I'm missing a "na3_characters_f"

Wondering if any one has expierenced any issues specifically with running the client side view distance mod in conjunction with the SOG DLC.
What we have noticed, is that sometimes after playing for maybe 20-30 mins, frames just start dropping (for only 1 person at a time) the frames will continue to drop down to 1 FPS before the game finnally crashes. this doesn't happen to everyone though, and also is def client side. We have a susspision this has something to do with the cleint side view distance mod, so will be running without it this week to see if that helps, but wondering if anyone else has any info or expierence with a similar issue.
Higher view distance means you use more RAM.
On the stable branch it's set to 4GB max unless you use -maxMem. Current perf branch is something like 75% of physical or 16GB, whatever's higher.

In Arma 3, nobody can't hear me talk. The logo appears when I put push to talk and on other applications, the micrphone works.
Need some help and I’m not sure if this is the place to put it, but hey ho we’ll see. After installing the newest ACE version on the server and consulting with the ACE mod team…I’ve been directed here. We cannot load into the server and are stuck on the map screen with no way to use the chat or sign in as admin. Could someone lend a hand
first debug starting point probably would be to test if server can launch a mission without any mods loaded
then if that works you can try with just ace loaded

Is there a reason why helicopters and planes don't like to use AT missiles? OFP never had the issues that ARMA 3 does but it's more or less the same Engine. Tanks not moving in formation (or more often than not one tank moving and the others staying still). Not sure why it's taken a step back and also not been fixed.

Hi all! I'm having problems with Arma 3 lately. I must be honest, it never worked well to me, but more or less I could handle it and play. Now I re-installed it after some months off the game and basically I just can't play. Lags, freezes and crashes. You could say :" well man, that's normal, it's Arma", I know its not the best optimized game in the world but I used to be able to play it in the past. The main 2 "errors" I get are "status hang application" and "unable to init dxgi. I don't know what to do more .... I also installed the new Nvidia Driver, nothing.

all RPTs show you starting with mods loaded. Start an unmodded vanilla game first. And get a mdmp file because apart from you loading a set of mods these RPTs do not have any relevant info

you're probably loading a mod that hasn't been updated or is just broken. It's not the game's fault anyway if it runs normally with no mods.
Start adding mods one by one until it breaks again and you'll find the culprit
the command line in rpt is cut off at some point so I assume you are trying to load a lot of workshop content.

like stated from the people above the crashes are caused by a broken mod that most likely hasnt been fixed or touched in years so if you want to figure out which mod causes the crashes load them one by one seeing when the crash happens

You should to recall that, "good quality" or anything does mean nothing but having a Mod is already a concern. You may need to try a pinned solution to find a faulty Mod
good quality does not always mean it wont break because of another mod like most of the ace updates can be a nightmare for server owners cause you never know what other mod it might break
freezing might be tied to faulty or slow hardware too. 
or a broken mission/composition you've subscribed to on workshop and Steam can't fetch data for it for whatever reason.

Im specially interested in 2nd crash, as I was always assuming there was either an asset problem in one of the mods we use or that our spawn system was freaking out
1 is a "BoundingMine" checking if it should be triggered. And when checking nearest object inside the trigger radius.. something got corrupted. There is a Building inside the radius (lol why does it even check buildings... ugh.) that somehow doesn't have valid position information

I vaguely remember someone did have issues in the past. The context menu not showing up in the right way where you would expect for Windows 10.

First time playing the game in a while, and any time I click "join" in the launcher server browser, the launcher freezes and I can't do anything else without using task manager to kill the launcher. Additionally, direct connecting to a server with an IP address will launch the game, but then it freezes at the splash screen for awhile andd eventually dumps me at the main menu.

Verify checks your installed game is good or nuh. Basically it checks every file in it and make sure you downloaded it correctly

Not sure, but you may need to be logged in as admin on servers. As localhosted or solo play, no clue.
I have a really weird problem. The game's audio randomly gets very quiet (like I almost can't hear my gun firing), but if I disconnect/stops the solo mission and reconnect/play again the solo mission, the sound is normal again. Any idea where it can come from ?
(And also, the menu sounds are always normal too)

easiest way to check is run the game with no mods, if sound doesn't "break" then I recommend asking around that life server.

I don't have the issue with other mods or in vanilla, so it's from that modpack I guess. But maybe there's a mod that is known to break sound or something, idk

Wrong use of ace probably is one that can do it
it has a deafen effect when being close to loud sounds with no earplugs. Too much sound causes you to go deaf for a certain amount of time.

No, deafening sounds are only (in the game) gunshots and explosion sound (your or one nearby)

Maybe. But it works. And I am not the person that updates my GPU drivers all the time because some other game I don't play needs to get a microFPS better performance. Maybe they fixed it, but it seems to be a GPU-brand independant issue anyway. So more like a Microsoft update that made bus-timings too strict. At least that is the explanation I read about the issue.

Hello. I have a problem with Community Based Addons not being detected by a server. I tried joining an antistasi server (it's down now) from the launcher, seemingly had all the mods, but I didn't even get to the lobby screen. I checked the mods in the ingame server list. I had everything, but the dot next to Community Based Addons was red.
The same issue persists with other antistasi servers, although I'm missing some other, bigger mods for them - it says I have CBA in the launcher, but the ingame server list says I don't.
Repair CBA.

Figure out which of your mods could be adding empty water bottles, or has something in the name relating to "edaly". Then remove that mod and try again if you still get that last error message of Arma 3 exiting in an unusual manner.
Then perhaps try to repair the mod in the launcher. If that still doesn't make it better, report that to the mod creator.
anyone able to help me with this, arma said it was corrupted and had to reset all settings then this pops up every 20s after the launcher opening and then it closes

Try verify the the install files on steam again and make sure arms launcher is closed when you do that
Alright, I tried doing that, and the game now lets me into the lobby, but I can't see any players or slots. When I press OK to start the game, player names show up on the right and the game stays at Receiving mission file (0 KB / 0 KB), and the dot in the server list is still red :/ @umbral narwhal

oh my bad, i went into my windows firewall settings and checked over every setting which could conflict my connection to a online server and i couldnt find anything there which would cause a issue. the next thing im thinking is because my network has a saftey lock or something like that could it be stopping the servers from showing up, but i thought id put it here just in case somebody knew a solution, im really sorry for being unclear

There's a problem that my friend is suffering from with arma, he has a powerful laptop and and mine is the total opposite of it but mine tend to run much smoother and less problems occur. Then there's his side that tends to go sudden fps drop out of nowhere, graphics just going nuts, polygons are tweaking and a high amount of fps drop like down to 5 fps

Dont mind the audio, but let me explain.
This is my friend recording, he sees someone being picked up by an invisible person. That invisible person is me, for some reason everytime after i use zeus in a vehicle it bugs me out and keeps me in that vehicle for everyone else. I can shoot, kill interact with everything no problem(I am outside the vehicle but not for them) but they just cannot see me or interact with me. This happens outside of Antistasi aswell, during normal ops.
I included the modlist and i cant really test on multiplayer. Could it be the Zeus mods or?

Turn down graphics settings (especially textures), or set maxmem to 6GB+ in parameters. Assuming that you're on stable branch. Perf/profiling behaves differently.
Yeah, found a thread on Steam where a guy had a similar problem (as it turns out now, on top of the CBA thing, I can't join any servers, even those whose mods I have), and he concluded it's something with the router, so I'll try messing with that

If you are sending data to the internet, and receiving replies to that, then you don't need any specific setting in the (Windows) Firewall. Though I suppose you could have a very restrictive 3rd party firewall. But in general, only if you host a server on your computer do you need a setting that allows incomming traffic to be sent to the Arma 3/server application. So you not receiving data in the server browser is due to some other reason. Usually it's because you didn't select the internet tab, or forgot to push the refresh button. Or you are on some kind of VPN.

It actually, sadly, isnt. We currently have a clean FASTER profile with no mods and the same issue persists. It's mind baffling...
so you made an empty mission with just a game master module and one or two playable units, mission exported to multiplayer and run in a completely vanilla environment, and a player with zeus privileges can kill a bot but a normal player cannot?

I've been using TFAR and it works for a while then the radio stops working, it starts to separate people even in the same frequency.
Had two friends on the same frequency as I was and I could not hear them but they could hear and speak only with them while the rest of the group could not, it would randomly change who could hear and who could not as we die
This is on Antistasi but I've not tested in other missions yet
It might be a teamspeak bug.
You can turn off TFAR muting people, in the TFAR global settings in game

Then you didn't setup port forwarding in your router. Or your internet provider gives you a type of connection where that won't work anyway.
Setting the checkmark for UPnP does not always work as your router may ignore UPNP requests. It could be disabled.
