I've recently been trying to host a dedicated server rather than just through normal arma hosting. For some reason, the dedicated server only appears on LAN but doesn't appear on the server list. I've tried looking at battlemetrics for the server but it doesn't appear there either.
I believe I've portforwarded correctly but it still only appears on LAN. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
well they still do it stand still but once enemy is in range they shoot it i might just use move but i bet guard will work like that to so i couls salvage it but the ones in the pic refused to move ands i gave them a wyapoint
The universal translator is having a stroke.
If it doesn't show in the list of server with your public internet IP then something goes wrong in the networking. Something is blocked between your server and Steam. Portforwarding is not correct, or firewall blocks something, or something inbetween you and Steam blocks something. It's hard to diagnose what it is.
The URI in the message linked below can be used to ask Steam if it recognises a server at your IPv4 address. Replace the xxx's: #server_admins message
It will report something. But if it does detect a server the response is longer with more details. Unfortunately I don't have a good detected and not-detected response example because I don't have my server online myself.

hey so my game was crashing like a lot so i watched some youtube video and it was saying that if i put *my arma directory * profiles=Profiles in my startup settings in steam it would stop, it did but when i deleted it i still dont see my scenarios in editor and i cant find the mission file that i would like to add some photos to my new scenario though i cant find the file anywhere. any of you know where i could find my current scenario?
Does it give any error message on crash?

Access violation errors usually. Mean some sort of system or hardware issue. You can find BI wiki page about common ones with suggestions on what could help.
Scenarios should be inside you profile folder. But if you have altered that through command line, you'll have to trace them according to your changes

My friend and I both having issues even launching ArmA, My units are not loading either, weirdly enough also having issues with discord servers, in 2 completely different locations btw, anybody else having trouble launching a3?

im having an issue with a mp mission file i made, i have custom respawn location set and i have the module placed at the location i want and the respected attributes selected but when i go to test in in a multiplayer session it spawns me in the corner of the map, have done this on all base game maps and modded and cant figure out what im doing wrong?
I'm having this weird issue where everytime Iaunch the game this weird mash of music and random sound plays in the background and it doesn't stop playing when I jump into the editor or a game
I thought it was a mod issue but the problem persists even when I launch the game with no mods or dlcs
Are you sure you load absolutely no Mods?
Have you ever moved a PBO somewhere to somewhere?
Or do you have a list of mods forced onto the game by the -mod parameter in the launcher parameter list?
I don't think that's a case since Main Menu indicates no Mods
That definitely sounds like a starwars-ish mod that is going along for the ride.
Then something must have inserted a file in the addon folder perhaps.
In my Addon folder I only have files made on 28th february 2023 and 29th August 2022 (the last two update releasedates). See if you have (other) files with different timestamps.

Another thing is if I exit the game before it loads into the main menu, the sounds keep playing and my steam stops responding. The sound only stops after I terminate my steam for some reason
The thorough method is shutdown Steam, Arma 3 and the launcher. Then delete everything in the Arma 3 install folder and then let steam verify your game install. But that requires downloading the game again. 40GB at least

No, I've only messed with PBO files for mission making, but I don't remember putting exe or dlls into the folder

I know nothing about bisect hosting. But if you assign them to be loaded as servermods then the clients don't need those. when they infact need them to work. So wrong way of listing them to be loaded.

It's often -servermod= vs -mod= that gets people confused.
Curious how you exceed the steam protocol packet size with nothing in -mod though
Maybe it still sends the stuff in -servermod but ignores it.
It's still, if the server doesn't need the ram, it won't use it. Doesn't matter how much you think it requires.
(steam protocol packet limit is what causes the "server can't transmit all data")

First thing you want to do with a server is set up the name & passwords in the server.cfg, start it, and check you can connect, use #login adminpass and #missions
My buddy is trying to join an it still has him loading. I've set the Name and passwords
currently says status " creating"

im having an issue having finished setting up a server and then loading one of my missions onto it. i would list whats wrong but theres too much to count - is there a list of common mission making issues that cause issues only on dedicated servers and not localhosts?

Hi, i literally just joined this server because im having issues hosting an online game so i can play with my friends.
Before it stopped working a few months ago after an arma update, i used to be able to host a game fine using the upnp option, but now it doesnt. i figured i had to do it manually. however none of the ports i tried worked (2032-2306) and i went so far as to install a shady app to make my server IP static and it worked to be fair, but anyway the server didnt show up either. this whole thing is still new to me but i managed to find out that upnp still works on my router, and it opens the ports on its own once i start hosting, so this must be an arma issue, unless im missing something.
any help would be appreciated
some clarifications:
im using the launcher browser to see if the server shows up or not (it used to work before)
but just incase im also using battlemetrics.com so i can see it there but to no avail
also yes, i am using an ipv4 adress
2302 to 2306 need to be port forwarded as UDP inbound to your local ip. Port 2302 is used to connect to server (these are defaults)
Things to check:
- has your local ip changed?
- has your public ip changed?
- is any other program currently using 2302-2306 ports?
- does your isp allow inbound ports to be open?
- any other device on your network uses same ports, and has them forwarded?
- does your server start? Can you connect to it via
127.0.0.1?
not so sure about the difference between the local and public IPs, but I did have a dynamic ip which would change every hour, but I managed to make it static (and I checked through the router settings) but other than that IP, every other address that I could check remained the same
no other programs as far as I'm aware are using the ports, i only have chrome, steam and discord open

and yes, when i tried to set up the port forward I made sure it was UDP for all of them, that didnt do much but its pointless anyway as upnp still works apparently
if by public ip you mean the one that i can simply google then its the same, but the other ip i have that im not allowed to disclose is the one for my device, then yeah that one is static now
by the way, not sure if this is related, but what is carrier grade NAT and does it affect the process at all?
Yeah, if you have CGNAT then you can't host without using a p2p VPN like Hamachi or Zerotier.
CGNAT means that there's another NAT layer between your router and the internet which you have no control over, so no port forwarding or UPNP will work.
You can detect it reliably by comparing your internet-visible public IP to the WAN IP of your router.
Or unreliably using tracert to your public IP.
i tried the tracert method and from what little i managed to understand i think i have it
Some routers or Windows setups will show 2+ hops to the public IP anyway.
well from what i could understand isps use cgnat cause of some issues with ipv4, but what is ipv6 and could that help?
Nah, Arma is IPv4 only.
The trouble is that there aren't enough IPv4 address for everyone, so ISPs save money by not giving you one.
Some ISPs might give you a real IPv4 on request. Most probably won't know what you're talking about.

but i am confused on one thing, i used to be able to host a server no problem before, and i never changed my isp at all. can they apply the cgnat thing overnight and i just missed it? i have no idea how they implement this stuff or how long was it around.
Yeah, they can apply CGNAT overnight.
Doesn't mean that's what it is though. You should check the router's WAN IP.
The ip starts with 192.168 which from what ive read means those are cgnat ips or something

Consumer routers normally use 192.168.1.x or 192.168.0.x for the internal IP range.
CGNAT is normally 100.x

NAT routers have (at least) two IP addresses, one internal and one external.

Yeah, port forwarding requires a lot of field-specific knowledge, and no other games expect it anymore unless you're running a dedicated server.

disable broken mods - that is a fix
where does one find the crash logs
when game crashes you get a window with a button to generate a full crashlog, alternatively look for latest rpt in %LocalAppData%\Arma 3
my friend cannot connect to my server because of this
(we both have the same mod list)
it appeared after he changed something is the ace files (it was suggested as a fix on a forum)
our original problem was him connecting, connected, disconnected
he's currently deleting them one by one
That client has those mods that the server doesn't. Or the server doesn't want him to use those.

Hey guys, I need some help. My multiplayer mission is not loading on my dedicated server. I can select a role, but after that, it returns me to the mission selection screen. There are no error messages appearing, and I can't find any relevant information in the RPT file. On a fresh server there won't be any custom difficulty settings in there, so you paste them in from the wiki or whatever.

I have an exile with drones, does anyone know why I can't open my action menu to open the UAV terminal? Is it a different hotkey or something in Exile?

Yeah, I have the correct terminal, however I've tried it with each and I cannot open the action menu to open the UAV terminal at all, even using the wrong one. Again, I'm on an Exile server, so I'm not sure if that interferes with it, but unless I'm near a vehicle or crate I can't open the action menu at all

First thing you do for any Arma problem is try running vanilla...
In this case, no mods, default startup parameters and standard-preset display settings.
I kinda figured if someone had no display at all they'd have tried that much at least.
I usually always do
I make my server name
Set it to Internet and not LAN
i set my password
Turn on UPNP
and he always joins no problem
For some reason lately it hasnt been showing up for him
And he tried hosting it and i couldnt see his
Possibilities:
- ISP switched you to CGNAT.
- Router automatic update disabled UPNP.
- Windows network settings changed (eg switched from home to public network type).

You may have something in the command line. But that does not mean the server/client understands it. Check the RPT log file if it actually found something for it.
People often add errors like putting extra spaces in the mod line.
And then the mod line specification and mod installation are often separate, so there's a lot of room for error.

But if you paste your mod line then someone can probably spot the errors.
Yeah, my usual reply: Start from scratch if you don't know how to set up servers. Only a basic mission, with no mods. Then add one mod. Test if that shows up and works as it should. Then consider adding the next one.

I wonder why it generated so many double-loads.
Strip it down to CBA_A3, ACE, CUP terrains core + maps and the terrains ACE compat and see if that has the same problem.
If it does then ACE isn't installed properly on the server.
If it doesn't then there's something horrible going on.

I normally use keyboard and mouse to operate vehicles and helicopters. my mouse no longer controls vehicles or helis and seems to be stuck in a free look. I have tapped and double tapped ALT to get out of free look but it doesnt help. I have restored controls to default and still no luck.... ANy Ideas ???

I've tried starting a LAN server from the in-game browser but it doesn't show up in the list on my son's computer. I've opened the ports, tried Radmin, and TADST. Still no go.

LAN server is the same thing from a network connectivity perspective.
Port forwarding is just hard to get right, and impossible if you're on CGNAT, which a lot of people are these days.

Yeah, port forwarding with my new router looks different than what I've seen before.
I don't even think port forward is a thing for LAN server
WIth my old Netgear router, all I had to do was type the port numbers, select which protocol, and it was good to go. Now I've got Verizon home internet and it has more options.
Is your son's computer on the same network or elsewhere?
The server doesn't show up with or without port forwarding. And yes, his PC is on the same wifi network.
The port forwarding doesn't matter then. That's only for external connections.
I've also tried direct IP connect with no luck.
Check the firewall.

Direct connect to internal IP should work anyway. Only thing that can block that is the firewall.

Windows firewall is off, using Avast instead.
How would I check the subnet? Ipconfig on both PCs?
You need to check the IP too.

Not workable. It's intentionally assigning a different subnet to that wifi network.

Odd thing is, everything else on the network has 192.168.1.x, including the USB tether his PC is using because it doesn't have an onboard wifi receive. It's only the PC that's 192.168.42.x.
Don't see manufacturer or model name, just Verizon Internet Gateway, then the usual serial numbers, factory password, etc.
ipconfig may return multiple address and you have to figure out the right one.
Because PCs have multiple network adapters, some virtual, some real.
It's possible that I'm misreading, but the info is coming from the same section of command prompt > ipconfig /all on both PCs.

If you're using a USB wifi adapter then the IP of that adapter is the IP that matters and is the same one visible in ipconfig.
The USB tether, which is my old cellphone, shows up in the connection list on the router admin page with IP 192.168.1.x, but ipconfig on that PC shows the address as 192.168.42.x. I'm wondering if the tether is screwing around with the subnet.

Yeah, that was it. Makes no sense to me, but when I switched receivers to a standard USB dongle, address shows as 192.168.1.x. Problem is, the only ones I have right now are unreliable. Guess I''ll have to get another one.
In that case it should still be possible to connect to the host PC with direct IP connect though.
The lists won't work because they rely on subnet broadcast.
I'm about to try again, if the dongle will keep working long enough.
USB wifi dongle doesn't need to be a device on the network. It's just a bridge to the PC. Phone can access the internet itself, so it needs a different address from the tethered devices, which is does by acting as a router. Hence the extra subnet.
That was the problem. Server showed up on the list with no problem. Now I just have to find a decent dongle that won't overheat and die. The ones I had were the cheapest available on ebay, so you can imagine the quality.

In the Arma 3 Publisher, does is say "all signed" at 'Signatures' after selecting the directory?

keys are two-part, right. There's a private key that you use to sign, and a public key that goes in the mod's keys folder.

The best way I can describe my issue is that I have ghost music audio happening. I have audio that constantly plays even after I turned all audio in game to zero no matter the menu and even in editor. Before posting this I have unsubscribed from all mods, uninstalled the game then reinstalled, deleted all my files and verified them to check for corruption as well as deleted my profiles and the issue persists. If anyone has a suggestion please let me know I also have a recording I took in OBS of the problem.

A terrain does nothing to do with the scripts (usually)
At least I wanted to ask what you've done with addAction
terrains shouldn't affect scripts, I used it before and haven't had any issue like this. So I guess there is something in the mod preset you're using that messes the actions. Easiest and fastest way to check it would be remaking the same mission with no mods except the terrain, laptop and scripts are vanilla
if it works than it's the preset issue, then you can either unload mods one by one until it starts working again or jump into nanner's Discord and troubleshoot it with him

I also recommend making missions with as minimal amount of mods as possible, most of these (that do not add any assets) can be loaded afterwards, some "client-side" mods can break your missions or create some weird dependencies that do not let you replay scenarios or a bunch of different stuff.

You absolutely should use a different key for each mod.
Otherwise server administrators have to either allow all your mods or deny them all. Which means deny :P

I recently signed a friends addon using DSsignFile. I created the private key, bikey and signed all the PBO. Even though I have the exact versions on both client and dedicated server the server fails to verify the signatures and kicks the client whilst adding in the logs Wrong Signature for addon...
Anyway I've unsigned and removed keys from both my gom mods. Would appreciate if someone could make the keys and sign for me because its just broken on my end.

Not sure why the packer would matter as long as you don't change the PBO afterwards. Signing the file just generates the bisign. It doesn't modify the PBO.

With my uniform expansion mod I had to rebuild the mod to make these keys work. Never digged deep enough to see why would that matter.

DSUtils is bad as it does not check everything the game does.

For the game stuff like the order of files in PBO can matter so if you pack with some bad tools the signatures won't work for you.
While the DSUtils will say it's ok as it does not inspect the PBO.

Well, DSUtils itself is probably generating the signature files correctly. Just not much point using it for that, given that every known-working verified PBO packer has signing built in :P

I'm not sure any of them have the sort of UI that works for a five-minute youtube video. Normally you set up a batch script to build your mod.
Addon builder's UI is awful for more than one PBO due to the prefix config.

You don't, it's required only for eliteness and some certain software. Mod making tools are free
which mikero tool is for signing and key making
mikero tools pboproject has a confusing gui.
in the end you will have to deconfuse yourself with either of the builders anyway. Or distribute mods without keys

This is a consistent issue that I think more and more players are seeing. The only solution I’ve seen someone says works is a factory reset of your pc. Otherwise you have to manually load and unload the mods you want.
I just hope that the developers and or someone from the team is aware of this issue because it is a pain to deal with. I’d be willing to send any files relating to arma to see if there’s a fix

Not many, in fact I just lost all of mine as I reinstalled steam seeing if it would help. Now through manually loading mods and saving them as a preset I have 2. Unless you mean downloaded html files. I have tons of preset downloads

Nope, probably a false positive. Many servers if not all start with that.

Then you'll have to ask your server hoster (host havoc) what is going on. Maybe it crashed, deliberatly shut down for reasons. Check log files if you didn't disable that.

With verifySignatures=2 you need key & signature. There's no whitelisting.
With verifySignatures=0 anyone can connect with anything.

Is there any mods for Arma 3 that stop Ai from walking through walking through walls? I spent about 3 days building a mission and learning coding just for them to ruin my mission walking through walls like Casper the ghost.
Like whats the point in making missions and or playing the game and the Ai just going to ignore the walls and phase through them and ruin hrs of mission making in a single play through?

AiA? That's...All-in-Arma isn't it? You shouldn't be using such an old addon that was made back in 2013. It's been deprecated for ages since CUP's been a thing.
but you have a mod that loads it, notifications do not show up if you don't have such mods loaded.

why would I know, you selected the mods you are loading your game with. It's on you to know what each mod adds and whether you need it or not.
if you have no idea, start disabling mods one by one until the notification is gone.

What walls exactly? Something you have placed down?
Basically AI interacts with buildings on predefined paths inside them and those can't be blocked. So mission makers may not always be able to do everything they envision as missions do have to be done withing the engines capabilities.
So then whats the point of making missions and putting buildings in that are made for the game if Ai ignore them
the point is to design missions in an appropriate way
can anyone help me with the ace mod please cause im struggling i think it got corrupted and it needs to be a bat file so im not even sure how to put it in my server or correct the issue cause the problems that its making is it makes my vehicles only move forward and backward SUPER slowly

I mean not plop compounds hoping that AI will move through them like player would. There is a reason why official campaign (and most missions on workshop supporting AI) do not have detailed hand-placed stuff

Your question makes not much sense at the moment. But you might get best direct help on ACEs own discord
so my Ai teammates will not use the door but walk through it and an also Ai enemy walked through a cargo crate and barn warehouse I setup for comms station

Zeus is Game Master, think dungeons and dragons RP role. This needs to be set up in the game editor (Eden). The Editor is a tool to create a scenario before it is played. And to make it have Zeus role for a player you need to do something with modules in it. (don't ask what, never did myself)

Hello, I need some help regarding UnitCapture. The problem is that I can't seem to find a way to use UnitPlayFiring to rotate the turret of a driver/gunner vehicle such as the M113 with an M2. The only thing that happens is that the gunner shoots at the recorded times but doesn't move the turret unless the actual Arma AI spots a threat, in which case it rotates the turret towards it, which still goes against what I recorded previously. (idk if the thing I'm describing is even possible, but oh well)

UnitCapture doesn't capture anything than movement of the vehicle and its weapons' fire, which means it doesn't take turrets into the count
Right, so I assume there is no other function that can do that, right?

I have this same issue but it isn't that video, but one of the trailers play I think it's the old man one and I got the game yesterday and now everytime I play this trailer is on repeat I dont have a browser open or anything\

I've got a server, and we're running a mod pack that uses SOG assets, and while most players who don't even need the DLC (nevermind some of them can't join as well) (non-SOG terrain) I've got players who are getting kicked for not owning the DLC

You can normally do batches, like add all RHS at once or whatever.
Delete private mods, they are not private if you have them

If you have a background sound/ audio while you're playing the game (not in launcher) there most likely is a YouTube or other video platform is playing in the Steam's Browser. Shift+Tab by default to open it and close every browser there.

Is there a limit to the amount of Mods that can be used on a dedicated server? I seem to get the red server indicator around 18 or 19 mods in the commandline. I see some setups with far more than this amount of mods. Is it compatability issue or a limit?
