I would say yes, especially Apex.
And based on what you would like to do Jets, Helicopters and Marksman.
Law of War has a great campaign!
I haven't played with Contact yet, and Karts is fun but not very useful

Apex and Contact are honestly a must when they are on sale. Both maps alone are worth it. Very few mod maps get to the quality of BI maps if any.

How do you mean? if you download and activate the mod, you can go into the editor and place those units, or open up Arsenal to get the gear/items from that mod.

I did it just like any other mod loaded it and then when I got in game I noticed the change, but the additional content was nowhere to be found

There's only one official version on Steam, which should be working (and is actively updated). However if something is wrong or missing you'll have more luck at the forum topic for the mod (unless one of the devs is active on Discord and willing to help)

for me the biggest issue is that it's not compatible with ACE (especially ACE Medical), which RHS does have (with compat mods, but maintained by ACE and RHS devs together)

ADDENDUM to Getting Started In addition to Learn -> Virtual Arsenal for trying out weapons/vehicles, you can also go into the Editor and plonk a DLC vehicle down with your character as crew (this distinction is relevant if you try to pilot a UAV or operate a static turret), or put down a character with a DLC weapon... this allows you to for example pit your character/vehicle against the AI or in situations not used in Virtual Arsenal such as uneven terrain, however the DLC restrictions will apply (pop-ups eventually start to appear and gradually cover more of the screen, and you can't get back into crew seats if you exit/pick up the weapons if dropped) as described by https://community.bistudio.com/wiki/Arma_3_DLC_Restrictions

you have to stop the mission, reassign, restart
or both switch "teams", e.g switch -sides-

in Arma, TeamSwitch usually means switch between members of your own group, or of the same side

changing team as you mean it (like in e.g CoD or Battlefield) is changing sides in Arma, which is unusual (but not impossible)

That usually means you don't have the correct items to heal someone.

Eg. if you use ACE in a vanilla mission it most likely will break because the mission expects a FirstAidKit while you have ACE medical items.

The vanilla stuff is pretty much just a showcase, although some of the campaigns are quite well made

Majority of mp content is found from modded servers the main type of which is private milsim community's, that where 90% of my playtime is from, you never play the same mission twice and you get to play with big organised groups of people

Only reason people still play it really is for nostalgia ( which obviously doesn't apply to you) and some people think the ai was better but imo that mostly the nostalgia glasses talking, and every single asset and map has been ported to A3 and updated by the CUP mod team

The Promet is, hands down, my absolute FAVORITE gun in Arma 3 (and based on one of my favorite assault rifles at that). I'm hard-pressed for reasons to use any others at this point, bar the SPAR-17 for its higher-powered round and longer range. The ONLY drawbacks with the Promet are that it can't load MX SW casket mags and the basic rifle lacks a bipod mount (does the foregrip do anything?), but one of its variants has an underbarrel shotgun, so that's nothing short of incredible.

@finite relic I disagree. You need only join a few to see it. For instance in the steam forums, everyone puts their best foot forward. I get it, you're trying to attract people to your unit. Once you get into the unit and actually get in behind the scenes, everyone is screwing eachother over. I've been doing milsim for almost 12 years. I've ran into 1 unit that genuinely wanted to help out and do joint OP's. Everyone else was in some form or fashion, after the members.

I guess we'll agree to disagree. In my experience, the community is almost entirely cancer. But, I love the game and the gameplay. Every unit is always the same. A disgruntled player seeking to do it better his way. They do everything they can to grow their numbers before going inactive, or someone launches a coup. All the units that have been around for a long time are wholly impersonal and just a different form of toxic.

@urban sluice, I'm sorry you had a poor experience with that unit. I feel perspective matters when labeling the Arma 3 community at-large as toxic or "cancer." I've been in those shoes. Join a group and find out that really it's just to get people in the door. I would say that on the large majority though, there isn't a toxic attitude. I've found by just looking around there are many fantastic groups out there that enjoy having fun playing the game without the drama or bad behavior. I can only encourage you to keep seeking out better groups if you come across people like that.

I disagree. A gaggle is just that. Hierarchies are natural and needed as long as the best rise to the top as opposed to artificially created. Charisma and knowledge are a thing.

At least 50% of the reason my group is a PMC is to remove "e-peen" bs your a member or reserve, which is denoted by the colour border of the tag, and the icon in the middle denotes infantry, air, armour and your ingame name is just that your name, everything else is hidden tags or on a spreadsheet that only a few people ever look at.

If you trust your teammates, you don't need a superior. We were 12 and everyone had a designated role, decisions were taken with the simple majority and when someone would divert from plan during an ops, we would trust them.

Unit i'm in has a clear rank structure, each rank having different roles and responsibility's. New guys go to the JNCO's leaving the higher up to deal with day to day running and background work. Doesnt cause us any issues

I think there is a different speed in some milsims though that really burn through players a lot faster. Low retention and high churn but it isn't my world.

the "How To Get Started" guides (both wiki and reddit) are the best thing to follow when starting, especially the part where it suggests to go through the bootcamp and start with some singleplayer content, so you will learn the basics and controls (which is not standard FPS controls).
Next up will be a public multiplayer server to see what you like (since there's a lot of different content available), and lastly search for a unit to play with and get to learn to play with mods.

I was never a big fan of these "survival mods". Imo, when you have a big group, play Zeus missions, with small groups or alone play casual realism missions, I think this is the most fun way to play Arma. I have 1700h now and it just won't get old 🙂

Our advice is ALWAYS go for the Forums (Bohemia Interactive Forums) first.

Secondly, that Forum post tells you who the mod creator is and that name can be found in the search bar above in the top right portion of Discord.
