it may not have been, but its what i learned arma with and later invested of 2k hours into with a2 and a3
so it was a good lessening of the skillcurve and was just right for me

like the flashlights mounted on shields and such to get a disoriented feeling
there's still some polishing to be done (the misc button at the bottom right is to clear the container)
but overall it's much faster to use, for example if you hold shift and click the + or - buttons you get +5 or -5 items, and it works with arrow keys too
so you can fill a backpack full of bananas in under 3s

Hello guys...i just have my own 2 servers with a begin programmer... he is on the good track..but we need some help.
I have now 2 wasteland servers (malden and tanoa) and a programmer...but its a scripter and doesnt have the brains for the 3d editor thing. To change things on the server.
Like exemple: put 2 more verhicle stores and 2 more garage s in the map.
And the biggest thing we wanna change is. Normaly you have 3 teams: blufor,opfor,inde standard no one see eachoter until you group up...and play together against others. But we wanna make only for blufor and opfor teams that they can see eachother....pls invite me if you can help us

weapon raised, especially with a heavy weapon is extremely taxing, weapon lowered at a slow jog is the most efficient way of moving around

it doesn't matter the setting, weapons up is a lot more taxing, you might've missed something during your testing
i think someone in our community tried it once, it seemed to make no difference to stamina drain but weapon lowered was apparently faster. Don't think it was a scientific test though 😄

Once you start waving your "rank" around it starts getting dicey

I always find public players who have ranks in their names, and insist on being called said rank cute
But then again, the ranks themselves are more for authenticity than actual hierarchy

Problem with the ranking system in most units is that they try to set the ranks incredibly high, for their "high command". If you only have 50 people, the highest rank you should have is 1stLt or maybe Capt. It helps the unit grow organically. Everyone tries to start at "Battalion size", yet spends ages filling their only platoon. It creates a huge wave of guys who have rank, but nothing to be in charge of.
When I started the unit I am in now, I started at 2ndLt, and moved up only when I had to in order to retain "CO" billet. All ranks are is a way to organize chain of command E-3 < E-4 < E-5 < E-6, etc. Don't make the chain longer than it has to be, creates the "too many chiefs, not enough indians" problem.
I've seen units with 1-5 Star Generals, and it just doesn't make sense. To each their own in some way though.
What i ment is, if you play a milsim mission with one squad / 2-4 fireteams, you should use a squad leader and several fireteam leader. At least for that one mission and rotate the possition with the next mission. I'm no fan of fixed possitions ingame and the well known “adress me with my rank, you c*nt“ hyper rp bullshit
After all, it's just a f-ing game. Ppl who want do demonstrate dominance and need comparison for their small d-ck can become cops irl 😉

@tranquil bay The way our unit does it, we have multiple private servers up 24/7 - at all times, ANY member of our unit is allowed to run a mission, be it as Zeus, or Team Leader, etc. People run them many times every day. However, when it comes to the official operations, the ones where a whole Company is in attendance, everyone plays to their role. It's a good way for people to practice team leading without screwing up anything big.
Problem is, a lot of people wait ALL week for the operations, and they're pumped, but a bad FTL or Squad Lead, etc, can ruin the experience for them.

TFAR 1.0 is using the exact same method to generate the 3D sound as ACRE does. So any difference besides total volume is purely placebo.

its still good to cycle that position so you get more people trained at that

Programming the reliance upon that flashlight and limiting your perception to just the area of the IR flashlight should certainly be possible.
I'm not a scripter though, so take it with a giant grain of salt
I just don't know of any engine limitations that'd prevent it to my knowledge.

IR strobes do the same
IR strobes are just normal lights.
But they automatically turn off if your NV is disabled
that's an issue I have too with the toggleFlashlight module
So they are not "only visible with NV"
They are "only active with NV"
for some reasons when changing the state of your nv your flashlight turns off
That way you can create any lightpoint that only lights when your NV is on
they are active if you don't have NVs, it just turns them off if you turn on / off your NVs
Create the light locally on each client. And turn it off/on depending on NV state.
You can easilly do that with light points. But dunno if you can do that with a directional light
can't you change the property of the flashlight to be IR only? that would fix it

My advice is don’t “start a community”. Just start finding people you enjoy playing with. Over time the number of people you play with will grow (and sometimes shrink). That’s how a “community” is formed. Any idiot can get a website up and running, rent a server and call themselves a “community”. We see those all the time. They are the ones who need to raise money to support their community or turn to misusing mods in an attempt to attract new players. Communities that last, happen naturally.

Different from Arma 3's official DLC so far, this new third-party premium DLC would always be an optional installation. This means you only download the DLC data after you've purchased the third-party DLC pack - and so if you didn't purchase and install the additional content, you wouldn't see it listed in Arma 3's main menu or in the Editor's content browser.
Hmmm. I got very excited for the possibility of someone bringing proper radio stuff to vanilla, but given the above quote plus "only download if owned" policy kinda makes it...hard to use as vanilla unless all players have the stuff.
@meager tundra BI is not responsible for it, people that go up to them to sell something as an official community DLC sign a contract that basically reads "I legally confirm that all content is my own work or work I own the corresponding rights for and Bohemia is not resposible for the content being sold"

From a vanilla standpoint these are mods for all intents and purposes (and is also the reason we never used their "official mod" either)
Premium locked content so alternatives can be provided and not strongarm any players, great. But anything else, why bother and potentially cut down the audience for missions and events. Hopefully everyone sees things similarly and is vocal about it, it can be tweaked sooner rather than later.

AAA Terrains are the only thing that sounds reasonable as a paid DLC. As you can't use terrains with people who don't have it anyway.

I don't see vehicles/weapons though. Public servers would need to forbid the DLC so people can't run around with invisible weapons. Or take special measures so that they can't get these weapons (Arsenal whitelist and crap)
Or just forbid them.. But when 90% of the servers will forbid your Mod/DLC why would a Modder put work into it

They've done that with Tanoa. You don't download the map if you don't own it. Because there is no possibility that other players can use Tanoa in your match.. Because you couldn't be in that match

You can probably disable it. You can also disable the current DLC's and start your game without them

the size of arma 3 including all dlc is like what ~30gb? thats a small size vs a current gen game
gtav is over 2x that - most current shooters are huge in size too (cod ww2 45 gb on Xbox One, 56 gb on PS4 and 90 gb on PC)
