Weird spacing

The example is quite simple:

It gives the image I'm pasting. I feel the extra space between the closing parenthesis and the plus sign shouldn't be there; the same for the space between that plus sign and the next one.

You can't expect spacing to match your expectations if you're using symbols in non-standard ways

You could for instance change the class of everything to normal.
