#Ship's upgrade ideas

These ideas are from @golden skiff , he can't create new topic, so I'm helping him :)

Since i am playing the game for kinda 6/7 months i am thinking about some upgrades and a cute re-balance of the overall upgrades that can make the game more interesting that i can list here and some more new mechanic for siege ships that are only relied on an elite role, this one can make some new combination that i hope (if got any attention) to shake the meta.

About new upgrades:

Battery mortar system:
Description: A new inventive mode of using mortars by allowing to shoot them one by one for sustained fire or in one focus burst. The reload will start after the all mortars shot.
Stats:
Allows single mortar shot (Shit+RMB)
Mortar damage:+5%

Refined cannon powder:
Description:
A more refined powder that allows to the cannons to hit harder and faster in cost of reload.
Stats:
Cannon penetration (+1 Light/ +1.5 Medium /+2 Heavy)
Projectile speed +5%
Reload speed -10%(slower)

Upgraded turn wheel
Description:
A good maintained turn wheel can save you from bad situations.
Stats:
Manoeuvrability +2(From tier 7 to 5)/ +3(from tier 4 to 3) +3.5 (from tier 2 to 1)
-Turn speed on first speed and stationary: +25%

Upgraded mortar arsenal
Description:
The art of mortar isn't only aim without know the knowledge of its own mortars.
Stats:
Mortar Projectile Speed: +15%(inch mortar); +20%(Heavy mortars); +35%(Barrel Launcher)
Mortar damage: +15%
Allows hull breach for Inc Mortars
Allows Serious Hull breach for Heavy Mortars
(Heavy hull breach slows even more than Hull breach and for the next 2 seconds it takes 10% more damage from all sources)
Mortar Upgrade limit: +1
Mortar reload:-20%

Additional mortar:
Description:
An additional mortar allows to more destructive firepower in exchange of some survivability... and some cannons.
Stats:
Mortar slots +1(from tier 5 siege to tier 3 siege and mortar fitted ships) +2(from tier 2 to tier 1 siege)
Durability: -10%
Manoeuvrability: -8%
Cannons: -1 each side(from tier 5 to tier 3 siege ships and mortar fitted) -3(from tier 2 to tier 1 siege ships)

High volatile mortar mixture
Description:
Who ever told that the fire comes only from a broadside?
Stats:
Allows to mortar shots to create fire fields
Fire field damage (DOES NOT AFFECT CANNONS) +30%(for mortar shots) +15%(for barrel launcher)
Fire field area: +30% (for mortars), +50%( for barrel launcher)
Mortar and Barrel Range:-5
Mortar Damage: -20%

As you see most of upgrades affects siege ships and since most of you will think: "hell yeah siege becomes broken";

I thought that some balance on damage of mortars is needed as i think will go:

  • All siege ships at least 150/300 hp nerf, to make them like glass cannons that Should know where to stay and shoot without getting demolished;
  • All mortars damage at least 20-50 hp flat damage nerf, for compensating the huge buffs on the upgrades;
  • slight more range,+5 on all should be enough;
  • slight reload buff, in order to keep up the rate of fire with some upgrades that will definitely kill them, i think from 5 to 10 second based on which calibre is enough.

As for the other Upgrades that affects cannons i think is fair put the choice of refined powder or incendiary mixture since they are cannon "Offensive upgrades" if they gets ever seen by devs and comes real.

For the Upgraded turn wheel; the manoeuvrable helm at least needs a -2% of manoeuvrability, since the upgraded turnwheel puts a flat amount that can be multiplied by the % of the other upgrades.

Interesting concepts but I feel as though the developers desperately need to fix some of the current systems before adding potentially more work to their already elongated workload.

There should be PVP ships for open sea which can contest with others and not only pay2win Firestorm and stuff for real money. That makes this game feeling bad more and more

@analog echo % upgrades apply before flat. No need to nerf Maneuverable Helm, since it wouldn't increase any flat number added by your proposed upgrade.

I feel like maneuverable helm is already kind of "meh" to begin with. No nerfs for it pls lol

I like most of these ideas. Frankly, I feel like single-fire mortars should be available by default, so having an upgrade take care of that certainly works.

I'm not sure that +2 penetration for "Refined Cannon Powder" is balanced, but I do like the idea of increasing raw damage and projectile speed. A lot of us simply run "incendiary shot" to supplement our damage and projectile speed, so having a "raw" alternative that doesn't add fire effects would be interesting. I would suggest +1 to penetration (at all tiers) and +10% projectile speed in exchange for a smaller reload penalty such as -8%.

I like the idea of another maneuverability option, though in my opinion it ought to be related to the rudder itself rather than the wheel.

I like the idea of a projectile speed upgrade for mortars, but I think the normal "hull breach" is already plenty strong enough without an even stronger "serious" hull breach. I also feel as though allowing normal hull breach on normal mortars would render the use of Heavy Mortars less desireable due to the latter's need for the shooting ship to be stationary. I think this is the only upgrade of the list that I don't like.

I definitely like the "additional mortar" idea, though I think the penalties will need to be more substantial to avoid this upgrade always being obligatory for mortar ships in any PVP fleet.

I also like the "high volatile" idea of more "incendiary-focused" mortars that gain wide DOT AOE at the expense of alpha damage.

Great ideas overall. Hope that feedback is useful <o
