CaptainMalone, EU1, though I am sure this issue is prevalent everywhere.

Who decided that a ship can just UP AND VANISH in thin air??!?!

Humour me, as I explain this.

You're me, sailing endless see with 2 buddies, farming imps because, why not, its fun. Suddenly, a PvPer shows up! No worries, its 3 on 1, we can do it. Then, after getting him down to 400hp, they just....poof. Out of existence. Ok, whatever, annoying, but I guess it is what it is. You watch them poof back in too far away to deal with, so you let them go. Not that you were gonna catch them anyways.

3 minutes go by, and they show up again back at full health and hauling arse towards us, interrupt our farming, and we fight yet again, bring em down to 100hp, and they AGAIN disappear into the middle of a bright sunny day, not even freaking fog. Now it's getting annoying.

Another 4-5 minutes, you've used up most of your wood, and decide to turn back to home to go grab more. Lo and behold, here comes Octo-twat in his invisible boat yet again to attack you, finally managing to board your friend because he was low and one broadside brought them to below half, causing them to lose everything. And then sink.

So this time, you want REVENGE! You're not letting them go. You manage to anticipate where he's gonna be when he pops out of his stupid invisibility, and finally, just when you think you got him-

-he turns against the wind and goes full speed AGAINST THE WIND TO RUN AWAY WHILE YOU'RE STUCK CHASING HIM. WHAT?!?!??!

I get it, people. It takes time and effort to grind to that ship or daddy's credit card if you're lazy but at the same time, just because you decide to no life the imperial line does NOT mean you should get some overpowered piece of garbage like that. In the span of 10 minutes, managing to come back and harass 3 people to death before finally killing one, coming back with full health each and every time.

Please nerf the Octopus. Thanks for coming to my TEDtalk.

that's how PVP works in MMOs

vital panther
#

“Oh you would do it too.” Yea, I would, does it make it fair? No.

#

I’d prefer the game be fun for all instead of just myself. Because, the clue is in the genre, MMO. Without people playing, it’s pointless

open saffron
vital panther
#

Again, that’s fair, doesn’t make it any less bullshit

#

A ship should not be allowed to just disappear into thin air

#

Nor should some stupid ability allow it to sail nearly against the wind either

open saffron
#

there will always be bullshit, especially with people around like you who complain about everything not being your way

vital panther
#

Classic, just immediately assume I’m talking like it’s “my way or the highway”

open saffron
#

also, there are many ships which can sail against the wind or very close to against the wind

vital panther
#

And how many of those can go invisible?

open saffron
#

idk cus I don't care lmao

#

just get better at pvp

#

sink them before they go invis

vital panther
#

What a genius idea! Truly, you are a revolutionary

#

Piss off mate

thanks

Save the discussion for someone who actually has decent points to argue

#

Like that other guy in the previous thread

open saffron
#

also the devs won't change it anyways

vital panther
#

Not “lol get better”

vital panther
#

The whole point of the feedback channel is to be that, provide feedback, whether they listen or not is up to them, I’m just airing my grievance about this particular ship

open saffron
#

now uh

#

were you audacious or a different group?

#

just curious

vital panther
#

Audacious from a different game, aye

#

Do I know you?

#

Wait a minute

ah okay

As my other suggestion for hurracan thread, the easiest way to punish player using it is to increase sinking cost
In the other thread, the proposed cost is 25 blueprint fragment, 50 escudos, 50k gold on top of 3 hour repair time PER sink

it should somewhat deter people from using it because it's really punishing to sink in one

Eah, game need more balancing patches.
Ships like Octopus, make all other ship a joke.
The best way to fix octopus is nerf her speed. Because in full speed build its sails almost as Ingermanland (ship from fast line 🤣)
Cut at least -0.3 or -0.4 knots from her speed.

On one hand, increasing the cost of repairing the Octo makes sense of punishing an Octo owner if they screw up somewhere.

On the other hand: said costs only really work if the Oto player is dumb/unlucky enough to land himself in a scenario that his funny button can't save him, which given the funny button... yeah those scenarios are relatively few and far in-between in OW esp if the Octopus captain is wary enough to never take on more than he can chew on

Imo a tweak to the funny button might be in order. Perhaps instead of actually becoming intangible to existence, Octopus merely becomes (nearly) invisible instead.

"wdym?" Give Octopus a right and proper cloaking system!

At no/low speeds: Octo might be near invisible unless you know what to look out for (in addition to not drawing NPS aggro as appropriate). Functionally at its most dangerous, but also won't save it the moment someone spots the Octo.

At combat speed (speed lv2), Octo's invisibility might be at it's weakest, appearing as partially transparent that only fools NPS.

At cruising speed, Octo's invisibility becomes a middle ground, invisible enough that they're indiscernible at long range, but still visible enough to know one is lurking should they fall into cannon range.

If this shakeup isn't enough, then maybe slap on something extra like Octo taking double damage while having the ability active or smth. Raise the stakes for using the ability rather than letting it be a "Get out of Jail Free" button

What if hitting the octo while it’s going into invis or while it is in is, cancels the invis? That way they can’t just sneak away if they got too greedy

Octopus is already insanely expensive to repair and the repair time is lengthy from what I understand. It's a good ship but it's not all powerful, most players prefer firestorm over ocotopus because it's just a better ship overall.

Solo maybe, in a group though… yikes

But I’d compromise with at least toning it down, I get people aren’t trying to play a simulator but like a disappearing ship is downright silly

Apparently the octo used to have invis outside a 150m bubble according to a friend who's been playing on RU for a while. It is significantly nerfed compared to that as a baseline

it had perma invis outside of 150m, now it has active invis, but is visible outside of that

vital panther
#

Either way, windrose + invis is too powerful imo

hardy marten

I get we're not playing a simulator but with the Octo's sail pattern it wouldn't have unique wind-rose normally... So I suggest that the unique wind-rose be active only when the invisibility is active that way you can kinda think that the ship (like the Flying Dutchman it seems to have been designed from) went under water... But I'm new to PvP having mainly done PvE and trading since September... but from what I've seen, squads of these things are quite deadly but then again organised squads are ALWAYS deadly against a thrown together group... its just part of any game that allows squads... Strategy and teamwork win anyday...

Octo... shouldn't be nerfed lol. IT's a fun ship and a small invis ability. It takes months to farm for, and it's an endgame gank ship. None of your friends died to it it was just annoying. I would suggest you run a tackle next time and you shouldn't have such an issue right?

Personally I dislike the invisibility ability. I feel that it is an extremely clunky break in the gameplay meta and is exceedingly annoying to find yourself up against as there is no effective counter. I'd prefer if the invisibility were removed and replaced with a buff to the armor or something.

With that said, I don't think the Octopus is nearly as problematic as some other ships in regard to overall balancing, so to me it's rather low on the priority list.
