Chatgpt requires internet to work

ChatGPT always required internet to work, the processing is on the server side.

I know there are some chatbots that can be run locally, there was a guy that made one for iOS.

Never ask chatgpt about itself, it has notoriously unreliable metacognition

An AI as powerful as ChatGPT requires thousands of dollars worth of hardware to run on. It cannot run on a home computer, let alone a phone

#

It's always been processed server side from OpenAI, as the other person mentioned

#

For AI capabilities and specs, ChatGPT doesn't know anything about itself. Don't ask it for that

meaning ChatGPT's ability to browse the web on its own, and pull information for you

#

it doesn't have anything to do with whether you have an internet connection or not (you must always have it regardless of what ChatGPT features you're using)

OpenAI doesn't give its AI models any information about their own capabilities and limitations

#

they just only know enough so they can answer, when you ask it "what are you?"

#

but you'll always want to refer to official OpenAI releases for specs

It seems to pretend that it doesn't have internet access as a defense to users asking about its privacy policy. It's a pain since it keeps pretending to be offline for a long while afterwards even in new conversations.

Don't ask it about OpenAI's privacy policy either

#

I just realized you're using 3.5 in the above screenshot

#

I use 4 so I don't know if 3.5 has browsing ability again (I know they had it months ago before they pulled it off)
