Hey Everyone - I've been using the Playground of the OpenAI API to write and edit code and it's been an incredibly fun experience as someone learning Javascript. However, I've now got code that is starting to get too long for OpenAI to look at. I thought that with the release of GPT-4 we'd get access to the models which have much larger token limits. Chatgpt is a language predictor. It cannot go look for urls in its database, it has no such thing. If a website is common enough it might be stored as a token, and if you ask it what is google's url it can probably do 2+2 and figure out it's google.com from it's prediction model, but that's it.

I would second 👆 what underscore just said (I suggest deepl.com, in my eyes the best) but regarding tool and prompt, if you want to have that quickly available with just one click you can already have that. Get that browser extension (superpower chatGPT), then you have right above your text-box the "prompt" button, just set your translate prompt to the default that´s it. BTW you can additionally change "TONE" (20) and also "WRITING STYLE" (19) to a preset that fits the purpose.

Not sure if this is actually a 'technical support' question, but it seems the best fit to me - so forgive me if I wandered into the wrong channel here. I found the ChatGPTBot on GitHub today, thanks to browsing the ChatGPT subreddit. It sounded amazing - it uses local text files and your OpenAI API key to let you have an effectively infinite memory instead of the normal limited number of tokens. So I downloaded it, went and copied my API key from my OpenAI account, and set up the ChatGPTBot.exe to use my API. But then I got an error message immediately saying I was at my usage limits. It didn't take more than a few seconds of googling to verify that I will have to upgrade to a paid plan to use this local bot. It also showed me the cost/token for ChatGPT3.5 Turbo and ChatGPT4 8k/32k models. And, I am still not at the point where I feel it viable to commit to spending money on this. It is really just a fun diversion/new hobby type of thing to play with ChatGPT with my free account. I might consider - strike that, I would absolutely pay the basic monthly fee if it allowed unlimited usage. But obviously, it is a price-per-token thing, and the monthly fee is either in addition to that, or it is a base deposit that might have to be topped up before the month is actually up if I use too many tokens. So, is anyone familiar with the localized ChatGPTBot that uses a command prompt and text files to allow for effectively infinite caching of a conversation? If so, would that be burning through my tokens used as fast as I fear it sounds like it would? Or, since it uses local text files, would that instead extend those monthly credits and allow me to run it truly at just that base monthly cost without running into overflow and extra charges? I really am not sure how this all works yet - and I mean I am not sure about the pricing plans, the tokens per request thing, or how the bot works locally and how that would affect those pricing/tokens. I'd love it if someone could ELI5.

ChatGPT 3.5 and 4 feel "off" to me this afternoon. They are both seeming to have trouble holding on to context. I was trying to get help formatting an expense report and the first thing it responded with (3.5) was: "What is an expense report for?"
Later, when I was giving more information that it was asking for, it suddenly said, "What do you want me to do with this report?" when it had already been helping me write a script. Just odd. Prior to this, it has done a fantastic job keeping on top of knowing what had been said in even long individual chats (this wasn't a long one).

Guys. If I copy a newsletter say 10000 words and I want gpt to read it and answer questions. They have a character limit of say 2000 something. What's the most efficient way of me breaking down my text into chunks manageable for gpt

Tell it something like "I am splitting this newsletter into X parts and you should ask me for the next part, wait for reply, and repeat until all X parts have been sent, then combine them to form the complete newsletter." something like this. When you send the last part, have your last sentence be like 'Now, ask me for further instructions".

Just be warned, it cant "remember": more than a certain amount of 'tokens' worth of info so if its too long it will start forgetting things immediately

Sometimes its finicky. If it is, give it an example like "for example I will send part 1, then you will reply and ask for part 2, once I send part 2 you will reply and ask for part 3, repeat until you have all 12 parts"

You can (will have to probably) force it to split its reply into multiple parts as well, and wait for you to confirm your ready before sending each successive part. Can also limit how many lines per reply, etc. Sadly this wont work for codegpt or I would not have the issue I just mentioned above...

Anyone know a way to get codegpt to split its refactor into multiple replies like GPT-3.5 and GPT-4 will do?

GPT-3.5 its 4000, GPT-4 its 8000, and I am not exactly sure. Tokens = data but not sure how it corresponds to character count. And sadly it does not remember the entire convo. If its reply and your initial prompt are too long, you will see it start to "riff" off the info it remembers and "forget" the oldest info in each successive part of the response it sends. And it will forget things.

You will want another 2TB SSD, but probably. Although it doesn't specify the mobo, judging by the ports available it sounds less than ideal. No telling the brand of the psu either, or ram. Also doesn't tell you the brand of gpu and all of that is important. And if you can afford it 2x gpu's is ideal. 4090s is the way to go btw, though the 80 is fine. Imo, you should build the machine yourself, it'd be cheaper and you can guarantee the quality of the parts.

Just less than an hour ago, when using chat.openai.com/chat chatgpt on my phone, any chats that I created on my desktop will not display with text wrapping on my phone. But any chats I created on my phone keeps the text wrapped on my phone. This was not an issue since I opened my openai account months ago. About an hour ago the chats I created on desktop have the text overflow you the right and I can't pull the text over. Previously, all chats, whether created on desktop or mobile, all had their texts wrap.

Am I correct that the ChatGPT API only allows this to happen by feeding the text content of those pdfs with each request, so that's not practical because of the token limits?

Is there any way to do a one-time refinement of the model or is there any other service / LLM / existing product where this is possible?

Goal is to have a simple customer support chatbot on an website and configure its knowledge with custom content / prompts.

Hi, I am currently in the process of embedding a bunch of data. About the Data: It's data from a video game, so basically a bunch of items that all have a bunch of stats (think like: "The sword has 15 strength and 13 stamina, 3 Intelligence..."). On first tests, this works well for prompts such as "Find all swords", but it doesn't work as well for prompts such as "Give me the sword that has the highest amount of strength", probably because this information needs context (aka it would need to compare the sword to the other swords to know what "highest amount" means).

Am I right with my concern? How would I go about providing that context to chatGPT/the embeddings, so that it has an understanding what "high strength" means for a sword within in my data?
Maybe alter the data so that instead of just saying "The sword has 15 strength" it says "The sword has 15 out of {highest Strength} strength"?

it's like 3-4 lines of python to load it. I'm not sure if it'd work the same as if you were "prompt engineering" it (loading all your documents chunk by chunk)
(I think it's not like that, it's more like - it's gonna search the document that's closest to the prompt using vectorisation and then only load that one and synthesize an answer...)

Hey all I have cursory experience with html/web design and have even played around with SQL some.
