I think it's good to be in-between 2 sides of extreme. 1 extreme being no oversight at all which is what Musk seems to be lobbying for and hopefully won't get, and also what I think currently is China. There's plenty of super odd self-driving major crashes there that could have been avoided. Then another side of extreme is you can not have any technology at all at anytime if it's even remotely unsafe - that's clearly wrong as well.

That's the issue with all LLMs. If they make it too confident you end up with og Bing AI (Sydney) when it is obviously wrong and wouldn't flinch so not good. But if you don't do that then it remains possible to keep pushing AI and arguing with it until it is agreeing with delusions of crazy people, especially in longer chats

If you compared gpt5-high against gpt3 (meaning davinci) or an equivalent model side by side with identical inputs, you would be shocked how laughably awful it performed back in the day. Completely unusable by modern standards, and nowhere close to being reliable. Hallucinating mess

GPT3 level models could really only be used for messing around mostly, they aren't changing any jobs or even making them easier - they were not capable enough yet then. With glaring flaws holding them back from mass adoption.

But yes, when RL training is focused the most on deterministic outcomes like math, we are nowhere close of maximizing the full potential for creative writing. Moving forward perhaps a model variants specialized just for it (like coding models) would be the way to go.

What you are describing is a very cumbersome and not cost effective solution, and you are still gonna compromise creativity by adding that logical model

consistent world-state is an import underlying structure to creative writing. you can generate a compelling narrative within the context of a model just fine, but my experience is that it gets very muddy when you have multiple character interfaces that have competing motivations and slices of visibility. character 1 interprets a fact differently than character 2, their understanding of the world is in conflict with one another, even though there is an objective reality underpinning their understanding and decision making.

there has to be a source of truth that can be referenced and consolidated during the evolution of an event, but how a character reacts to that source of truth needs to be independent of the facts as ephemeral branches of reality derived from the underlying reality.

World state quickly fills the entire context of any model so it must be semantically queryable with a bias filter such that only the pieces that matter to the immediate context are visible to the character context, for that character to convincingly and consistently reason about their circumstances.

essentially, the loop is something akin to... when a situation would benefit from a 'creative statement of fact' that doesn't yet have a precedent, I want to be able to explore that branch of potential reality, and then render it down into the world state so a later 'creative statement of fact' doesn't collide factually with what has already been established.
