In their gpt5 model card (which is where someone took those names from in the first place cause this is not standard model naming), OpenAI mentioned that they route to mini variants once you reach your usage caps. My understanding hence is that when you have full access with no limits reached, you will only use full models. Testing I did tends to align with this as well

I'm not sure routing to gpt5-mini is implemented at all yet though, since it seems gpt4o/4.1-mini is still there (tried that before they increased their caps)

Thanks for the info! They definitely should make it more clear for power users. It would be nice to have an option to choose mini when wanting to preserve the usage cap for more difficult queries. The routing is probably best for most users who don’t want to think about it though.

1 particular chat session got corrupted somehow, I can't access it, move it, archive it, delete it - I can't interact with it in any manner. Every now and then when I do a full refresh I can see my other chat sessions and I can interact with them temporarily, so I'm moving them all to a new Project. I'm not finished yet but I'm pretty certain the new project will function correctly as they'll be free of the corrupt chat session there.

I wanted to pick your brain about your use of Canvas as that's something I need to start using and I'll adopt your backup strategy too, that's a great idea. Maybe I'll catch you online later.

There was a somewhat convincing post on reddit that talked about the response time of the gpt-4o making it seem like it fell into a category of certain models that were operating as derivatives of 5. Also that it couldn't perform the same way that 4o was for him before they rolled out 5.

From my experience with 5, it is better with highly technical knowledge, when you hold its hand and make sure you clearly contextualize everything. But its prone to misunderstanding and misinterpreting with less context.
