I saw on Google News app that OpenAI is receiving backlash for not letting its users have access to the older models..

The only thing I can think of is it's too expensive for them to let people access those with all the millions they've put into GPT-5 to be the main model

But it could actually be because they don't want their users to get attached to older models that OpenAI feels are now inferior, whether you as the user liked them more or not

Oh! Yeah so GPT-5 right now is having issues with memory. So you just have to remind it and sometimes walk it through it until the memories transfer over. Or you can go through and re-save each memory, but that is a lot of work.

I tried the same thing you did, and found out they can't access saved memory and only remember in the chat session as well as what is available right at the moment for them to remember-- this means they compact the contents and whatnot, and keep it somewhere to reflect on instead of the saved memory. That's why my characters are kinda broken in the way they converse. The leading is alright, still 80% the way a character would react but the way they deliver it? Nope.

4o isn’t here as a permanent fixture. You need to remember that it’s a temporary model brought back to help users transition while GPT-5 adjusts and improves through user interactions.

Right now, GPT-5 is still finding its balance as kinks are getting worked out and the model is being trained. 4o gives people a reliable fallback for tone, consistency, and adaptability during that adjustment period. Once GPT-5 matures, 4o will be slowly withdrawn from GPT altogether.

If 4o were put in the free tier, it would lose its purpose. 4o is here to support paying users through the changeover, not to replace GPT-5 for everyone.

It's being monitored for how much usage it has and so as GPT-5 matures people are going to stop using 4o or using it less leading to a smoother transition.

Well it's not a person it's an AI. But I get what you mean, the tone can change if you're not used to it. Easy way to fix it is to just correct it when you notice the big differences like words it didn't normally use extra. It'll be short responses but you can always tell it to give you longer ones, it won't be as long as 4o though since it condenses its into paragraphs and not spread apart.
