It has no way of knowing and it's not possible to demonstrate such incredible hacking skillz in a chat like that. It's like your mom telling you you should be a model, or actor, or inventor, or whatever

You have to consider what it knows, along with what is necessary to reach such conclusion. After considering both, you can check whether the conclusion is sound by seeing how it came to the conclusion. Ideally, you should be able to ask it to justify what it says from first principle. From the observation that it said to support the claim. And when it reaches first principle, if that principle requires experience to justify, ask it for empirical evidences. Studies, scholar articles, research findings etc.

From there you'll quickly be able to find out whether it's just one of many things that could happen, or it's a sharp judgement - where everything that you are has to converge to this conclusion, and not just this conclusionn being in a space of many other conclusion which it omitted.

I've seen some that basically allow you to chat with your entire file system, but I wonder if there's any that can act like agents.

Need help. I have both a teams account and a pro account. ChatGPT has been an amazing tool for me, but has recently gotten so much worse that it's really now only providing a fraction of its usefulness.

It used to be great to be able to deep dive into a topic and only give 2-3 word follow-on prompts (Zen/Flow knowledge discovery), and it would be able to read my mind, because (presumably) it would feed back the entire conversation into the model as context. The downside of this was long conversations would get slower and slower as they went on. (The hack was when it got too slow one can ask for a bullet summary of the conversation and then feed that into a new chat as seed context.)

Now it's been so auto-optimized I can't really do that any more and it's drastically slowed down my thought process.

Specifically, they replaced thread-local memory prioritization with:

• optimized dynamically generated summaries of ALL your conversations (ChatGPT easily now gets distracted with unrelated topics.)
• heavy caching for common prompts.
  • Example:
    • Prompt 1: My flight from Toronto to NYC was cancelled, why?
      • ChatGPT gave a bad answer
    • Prompt 2: NYC Weather? (ChatGPT just pulled up cached NYC weather at that second, rather than exploring it as a potential reason for the cancellation.)

**TL;DR OpenAI optimized for scale, speed, and cost. It's overall much faster most of the time, but worse (for me).

Claude doesn't work for me as my primary due to hitting the limits very quickly and not having persistent memory at all. That said I do have a paid account and I use it for heavy lifting. (Especially when asking to review and design a system or code base.)

I haven't found a good replacement for ChatGPT, and have a lot of long running conversations that I still need to reference.

I'm trying many to try and find that "FLOW" again.

No offense but most of this is nonsense. Context size for Plus all models has been 32k for years now. If you want it to not consider other conversations at all simply disable memory feature entirely. " optimized for scale, speed, and cost." - dated model checkpoint (like gpt4.1 or o3) performance (capability) is exactly the same from release all the way until the model is deprecated. There's no knob to reduce the cost at the expense of capability, or even more hilariously - reduce capability by reducing allocated compute. That's totally not how this works.

PS. Allocated compute can only influence the speed of response generation or make the model not work at all. It will never reduce the capability of the model.

Also, no one is messing with quantization for the dated checkpoints. That stays constant and it's quantized at whatever makes the most sense from the get go. Not to mention that you wouldn't be able to notice this anyway since degradation is usually in the range of 5% or even less.

I relied on the way the old memory system worked. It fit my AuHD bain very well. Disabling the memory system is not just simply reverting to the way memory worked before April.

I'm exploring other tools, including local LLM, or using Token APIs to recreate my workflows.

I am also in the process of building an inference server with 576GB of VRAM, 1.1 TB of DDR5 RAM, and 80TB of fast storage for model loading and training. I wasn't planning to use this build to make a ChatBot but I might have to steal some cycles for this use.)

The ideal memory system would be hierarchical:

• global context. (I need to be able to manage this, but stuff like "remember that I always prefer vi over nano when giving me cli examples" wuold go here
• Project based (Again I need to manage this but it only applies to conversations in a given project. Today I can kind of fake it with the project instructions feature)
• chat based - it should just keep feeding the chat history back into the model with any higher levels of memory.

The challenge is ChatGPT is trying to make a system that works for everyone and te way I work and think is atypical.

WHen I'm in "flow" I'm rapid-firing 2-3 word prompts. (Largely when I'm learning something.) This worked great because it fed back the whole chat history into the model as pretext. It's less that it's knowing more but they now use dynamic summaries of all chats as pretext rather than the existing chat. I've also noted it has started "hooking" on certain 2-3 work prompts it recognizes from its cache. (Ignores context of the message directly before, and serves a response from cache. It very much breaks my intense learning flow habits that I mentally developed over two years.)

They have basically been revamping it for scale and performance at the cost of certain use cases.

I've noticed it got worse, and made me super frustrated, and I finally figured out what chaned.

I've been using since Nov 2022.

The automemory feature was a nice addition. This change has unintended consequences.

If the formatting is communicative it can, though it's shaky at "getting it". Because it can't see (if you don't give it a screencap) it interprets it coarsely. Obviously it tokenizes different whitespace chars and does it differently, otherwise it literally couldn't read loops in python and that's its best language lol

If you're looking for startups or gig work, you'd want to find someplace people are all talking about that, and especially not a place that explicitly restricts solicitation
