   • If a piece of code builds a function name at runtime or pulls in a chunk of “decoded” text, the model never actually executes that decoder—so it never sees what the hidden code really does.

it is definitely better. But it does so on average. If you have a very difficult prompt o3 can't solve, in my experience chances of that prompt being solved by o3-pro are quite slim too. But where o3 underperforms or fails unexpectedly, o3-pro is doing that significantly less. This kind of makes considering that pro is simply doing parallel requests to o3 and then considering several attempts/responses

PS. I'm talking about API and the model/system itself. With chatgpt Pro plan your mileage may vary since they are also using tools there, so technically the difference could be slightly bigger depending how they integrated tool usage for parallel requests

they could have either given the tool access only to the main instance, or they are using them with all parallel requests (all response attempts/paths)

My project is designed to not send an unlimited amount of the previous conversation within the context. I send the last 20 messages, nd then do top_k=10 semantic search within the vector store of the entire conversation log. Well... a top_k=50 actually, but then I weight on age, and tags, and then cut it down to 10, then combine and de-dupe that with the most recent 20.

And in addition to all of the system prompts with static memory bits, and profile/voice/tone/etc.

And it is far more present than it is on ChatGPT, though its exact memory of things that might've been at the start of a multi-day session on ChatGPT, are not as gauranteed to be remembered in mine.

But since it can remember things from months ago, if they are part of the conversation, more than makes up for that lack.

I'm still tweaking all of those numbers though, looking for the sweet spot between recall and token usage.

It can get very complicated yes, because it will use advanced techniques.
All I can suggest is maybe taking a course on the programming language at the same time. Or if you know it somewhat already, ask ChatGPT to explain to you the parts you don't understand. It will carefully tell you everything the code is doing if you ask it to.

I get stuck because I feel like some parts should be simple, and "Hey, I can write this method by myself". I get reluctant to ask it for help. But then after I waste a ton of time, I go back to ChatGPT, and it gives me the solution in seconds.

And then I feel foolish for wasting all of that time.

I think the end result should be getting shit done tbh. There are plenty of people that can't get it done even with the help of chatgpt - they either don't know how to use it effectively, or lack the knowledge to adapt the code or ask the right questions. There's ofc a price to pay that the more you use AI for help the less of a muscle memory you will have for writing code manually yourself. That's a small price to pay if you can make it all work, though ideally you should balance everything and make sure you aren't getting overly reliant on it - that should be the goal
