When you fix a problem like the precise character, you have to do things that will inevitably make the model better. O1 is a perfect example of this. Reasoning tokens and CoT fixes the character problem, and makes it the best model for reasoning by far

Have you considered the remote possibility that you don’t know how to properly prompt the model? For example, have you searched why you should avoid prompting “don’t do X” in favor of “do X like if you were Y following the rules 1, 2, 4, …”

Being a simple next word predicting LLM comes with fundamental issues. However many of these can be addressed with CoT or reasoning tokens it seems, Like the new flash thinking model that came out from google today that failed the strawberry test first try even tho it’s supposed to think 😂

It’s not just character count. You are hyper focusing on that example. The problem is the next word predicting part. In highly specialized fields you need to reason about things, which most LLMS just don’t do. That’s why o1 is so far above them in reasoning. That’s why o1 aced the Korean say exam. A test where teachers are locked in a place to make it.

You can’t keep relying on feeding it more and more data forever. It will end up being embarrassing at some things and good at others. Like you won’t trust an AGI that doesn’t know how many words it just wrote.

The problem extends to other things.

For example MATH

LLMS traditionally suck at math because of the same problem I just mentioned.

Say you want to build a site but you dont need it in 24h, then you submit all prompts for frontend ui, backend etc to o1 pro, after 2 days you have a good boilerplate to kick things off, 50% of the job done

So, what does everybody here generally use ChatGPT for? I've used it as a worldbuilding partner for my own creative writing and I feel that it generally does a good job at it, though admittedly having custom instructions and giving LOTS of context during each query also helps the AI be able to help me. It seems like most people use AI for coding, but I'm about as familiar with coding as I am with ancient Egyptian hieroglphs so those discussions sadly don't mean much to me (not in the sense that I don't care but in the sense that I have no frame of reference for anything related to coding so I just can't follow the discussions).

I don't have access to o1 or o3, is there a noticeable difference between them and 4o when it comes to being able to help a writer design people, places, and things? From my ancedotal observations 4o feels almost as intelligent as a college student whereas the older version of ChatGPT (3.5) kind of gave me the vibe of being an overly talkative middle schooler who tries too hard to be a gentleman.

Biology and other "hard" sciences in that realm can't be as efficiently replaced as coding because the testing portion is a MAJOR bottleneck. With coding and/or math, you can just run the code or test the math yourself, but if an Ai gives you 100 ideas for some new biological drugs you gotta go and physically test all 100 in a lab.

(Side note, major money opportunity if you create a testing lab anticipating this surge of demand)
