so I really really love this game, it has such a good like base gameplay loop that I feel like has more potential than a lot of other roguelikes and horde survivals I play (and I play so much). Right now, like a lot of other people, my only qualm is that most runs feel the same. and thatās something that I do think is gonna be ironed out in time, but I think thereās really interesting ways you can implement character and item progression in game.
First, Iād like to briefly talk about in game stat modifiers, I really really hate the way the stat choice pops up. I believe itās the first event, and then random from then on? I think randomly would be fine if it were more frequent and if the stat you got actually felt like it mattered, but it more often than not doesnāt feel like much. Outside of cursed curios itās the only way to modify your stats in game right now, and in a lot of horde survival games, one of the things I like to do a lot is focus on a few different stats, and I just feel like the system right now isnāt very good. My idea for this, at the risk of becoming slightly more like ror, I think itād be so cool to just have chests with items that mess with stats hidden around the map that you can maybe even still use the 20 hp to open and you get a random stat buff, and you could even throw in some actual curios in them too or smth. Unsure if it would take too much away from the way leveling already works, but with the way the game plays compared to other HS games, Iād prefer finding my curios and stats over leveling just by collecting xp.
My second point, also I think the only other thing I have to talk about rn, have yall played gunfire reborn? I feel thereās a lot of inspiration to be taken from there too aside from ror2 and vampire survivors. Esp in the way character specific abilities are able to be leveled. In gunfire, every character has a passive, a character specific grenade, and their active skill and when you clear a level, before moving to the next room you get boons that will alter the way they work. I propose every five, or ten levels, instead of the choice between the normal curios, thereās a choice between three character specific curios that dramatically alter the way the character in specific works. And there may already be something like this in the game and im just missing it or havenāt played enough yet, idk. I just know I rlly like this game and really want it to succeed and become the best that it can and surpass the games that inspired it. I donāt really write feedback in early access games, but I play so many games just in general and the majority of them are in the genres that this game is blending so I hope I can bring some cool ideas and insight through the games early access period. I canāt wait to play more and see how yall change the game!!

First things first...need some clarity
Stat modifiers
- What exactly are you referring to? Are you talking about the offerings where you give 20 health for stats because this always spawns randomly? Once you unlock Paulo's shop you can get stat modifiers very regularly and easily by paying currency as a trade off to not saving it for character and mementos upgrades.
- If you like to focus on certain stats mementos is the solution to this unless you dislike the grind to get Paulo's shop and mementos with discovery and then currency for upgrading the mementos.
From Paulo's shop you can get 4 of each upgrade in cooldown, health, damage, mag size, and even curio upgrades until you maxed them all out. If you get 4 of one this is a substantial buff.
There's also no diminishing returns on restocking the store repeatedly, making it easy to get these stats.
Character specific upgrades
Currently your second point has to do with character upgrades back at camp.
I think it would be cool to have a system like gunfire reborn as an avid enjoyer of that game. Right now each character seems to be heavily based on a playstyle rather than a theme with a few playstyles like in Gunfire Reborn.
Gunfire will always have an edge though because of the gun looting aspect.
Dont forget the currency upgrades and character unlocks with said currency

The sheer amount of development that went into Gunfire with respect to the general and character specific skill tree can be compared to mementos and character ability upgrades.

See when I refer to the character specific upgrades, I know I can upgrade that back at base, I donāt really care much about meta progression at this stage of the game, I think that thatās pretty decent. Iām talking about the choice between the boons that change how the ability works, not the end of run character upgrades. Iām talking about in the run, there arenāt really curios outside of what affects your character ability or passives, you really only have all your normal curios that affect everything but that.
So say youāre playing the bunny in GR, you reach the end of the level and get your booms you have the choice between something that affects your main power, or your passive or grenade. Iām just proposing some curios in that respect where it affects your passive skill and active skill and changes them for that run only. I think it would add freshness and variety to runs idk. And I still might not be describing my idea properly, I suck at writing and putting my thoughts out there cohesively lol
See I mentioned that I might not be far enough to have unlocked the system for it yet, I had to work this weekend so I still only have six hours in lol. If there is more of a thing instead of the random chance of the spend 20 hp for a stat, then thatās great! Iāll have to figure out what to do to unlock it! I do think still implementing a system with more stuff around the map would do so much for this game, even if itās just more in game quests or smth
