I’m not sure. What I can tell you is that even in cases like mine, they keep claiming you still need to subscribe to Pro after adding a card. In my case, my subscription was never a trial. It was a full year of service, similar to getting a Spotify gift card or something like that, and they later changed it to a trial.

They change things about the service whenever they want—removing features, altering the number of requests, and so on. My guess is it has something to do with the number of lawsuits they’re dealing with at the same time.

Personally, I wouldn’t add my card to their service. They probably use card updater services so that if you cancel a virtual card, they can still find a way to charge the main card.

Hi everyone, I’m having an issue with my Perplexity account and I was wondering if someone could help me fix it.

My account still seems to be linked to SheerID, and because of that there’s a conflict when I try to use my Revolut Metal benefit. Perplexity keeps pushing me toward the Education Pro option, but that’s not the subscription I want to use. I want to activate my Revolut Metal promo instead.

The problem is that I don’t see any option to remove or disable the SheerID connection myself. Has anyone dealt with this before, or does anyone know how I can get this fixed?

That requires contacting Perplexity support directly, as there's no self-service option to unlink a SheerID verification. Here's the best path:

1. Email support at [e-mail] — explain that your account has an active SheerID/Education Pro link that's blocking your Revolut Metal promo activation, and ask them to remove the SheerID association.

2. If you have Pro access, go to Settings → scroll to the Perplexity section → use the Pro Support chat for a faster response.

Aravind here. I want to personally thank you for your patience and announce we are sending free Perplexity Computer credits to all Max and Pro users affected by today’s outage.
Today we experienced a Stripe issue that affected a small number of Max and Pro subscribers by automatically cancelling their subscriptions. We’ve been in the process of rolling out more consumption based pricing so that everyone can try any cool feature we ship, but this ends up with us having to deal with corner cases we didn’t anticipate well. Add to that a few coincidental infra incidents that happened on the same day.
