Yeah, mainly because I often care less about the actual model used, but rather care about the specialized "search" AI employed prior to the answer.

I kind of consider the model afterward if I need something that isnt search

but like it doesnt matter if you select claude, the search "ai" is still the same, which then feeds the data it finds to claude, and let claude generate an answer for you based on what Search found

The search itself to my understanding on pro is actually a variation of the sonar model, special trained, unless they changed it.

I found early on that unless you disabled search was there very little difference between model use.

and I usually do use models manually purpose picked.

Depends on the question is relying on pre trained information, or actual "finding" information

I mostly use perplexity for needle in the haystack style searches, if I need the model to actually think I usually pick model based on what the question is.

Yes, ok, let me re iterate what I said, for an entire evening I was asking the same prompt to 5 different AI, and 5.1 got it reliably wrong EVERY time, as long it was on subject matters clearly not in training data, because GPT doesnt pro actively search.

Perplexity SOnar pro was much more agressive in searching, hence it was more reliably right for this specific set of questions

I had a dedicated api, and just found in general that through api if simply asking a question about let's take a random subject like newly released video game the sonar reasoning model would always search and find sources, where more often than not even though search being an option for it the chatgpt model would kind of shoot in the dark missing by a mile, unless explicitly instructed to search then it did fine but you had to make it a part of the prompt and not simply ask a question

I never use AI of any kind for personal topics other than the usuals; this time I tried asking something about toe nails, literally something about it while I was getting ready with my wife and Gemini started talking about something else completely, it changed to bread topics and I stopped it saying “No, get back to the topic we were talking about before”
