DR was better before and as far as I know, the model (R1) is still the same. The only reason that would be is a worse functionality than what it was back in the days. That is pplx functionality. Fair enough. They might have been the biggest solution solving search - obviously others would copy.
I'm more concerned that this is still their main business and they are dropping the ball. By crippling the models they provide and trying to "improve search" (which imo has just made it worse during 2025) - what will they still bring to the table when everyone else provides search, often better (more recent, but slower)? Comet is too late at this point and while I admire them sharing that the users are basically the product (which is true for most browsers) - it won't really help seing as all other browsers already come with LLM's built in, even if the quality varies.

I don't disagree. But they do not blatently push that as their agenda. Which is why most non-tech savy people "just use chrome".

Having a company that directly tells their users that they will use your data to show targeted ads will hurt a whole (albeit small) demographic. But it's probably also the only demographic that matters since your grandmas etc will not switch away from chrome anytime soon.
