Okay but they are going to be turned on in China right? What would they do if they turn them on in China and they either don't work or connect to a US server to get their location and get bricked

Hmm, makes me think how the "tracking chips" would even work. Do the lawmakers even know what they are doing?

distant aurora

China might as well make a proxy company.

tame current
#

Yeah they have many. That's why I thought whether the US government people (who use Signal for discussing war plans) even know how this tech works

#

Airtags work because the Airtags network is there everywhere. Without a network like that, how will the "GPUtags" even work anyway? Are they going to be connecting to the internet? The Chinese will promptly block it. Is it not going to work unless it connects to a US based server? The Chinese can just set up a proxy; plus this can reduce usability if someone legitimate doesn't want to connect the GPU drivers to the internet.

in this case of ongoing subs, stripe requires one valid payment method on file to ensure that future subscription invoices can be paid and to protect against failed payments or fraud.
so you can change the card on file, you can't remove all payment methods tho, stripe will block that

and as far as deletion, deleting a user account in pplx's system does not automatically cancel the corresponding subscription in Stripe, so if the user didn't cancel the plan, they'll get surprise charges even from deleted accounts

distant aurora
#

Based on the research reports provided, I'll provide a comprehensive explanation of the context behind Traffic Acquisition Costs (TAC) and its significance in Google's business model.

Understanding Google's Traffic Acquisition Costs (TAC)

Historical Evolution and Growth

The dramatic 408% increase in TAC from 2012 to 2023 reflects Google's growing investment in securing its market position:

  • In the early 2010s, TAC was relatively modest, with Google paying Apple approximately $1 billion in 2014
  • By 2016, total TAC had grown to $3.8 billion (21% of revenue)
  • In 2021, Google spent $26.3 billion on default search engine agreements alone, with total TAC reaching $45.6 billion
  • By 2023, TAC reached $55.7 billion, representing 21.39% of Google's total advertising revenues

The Google-Apple Partnership: A Critical Component

The Google-Apple relationship exemplifies the strategic importance of TAC:

  • The partnership began in 2002 with no financial exchange through the Information Services Agreement (ISA)
  • By 2005, Google implemented a revenue-sharing model, paying Apple 50% of net advertising revenue from searches on Apple devices
  • The partnership expanded significantly with the iPhone's launch in 2007
  • Currently, Google pays Apple an estimated $20-21 billion annually for default search status

Strategic Importance and Business Impact

Why Google Pays Such Large Amounts

  1. Market Position Protection: Internal Google analysis shows losing default status on Apple devices could result in revenue losses of $28.2-32.7 billion
  2. Financial Impact: While TAC represents a significant cost:
    • It accounts for 21.39% of total advertising revenues
    • It's crucial for maintaining Google's market dominance and traffic flow
    • The costs are justified by the revenue generated from the acquired traffic

Competitive Landscape

  1. Market Competition: The search engine market is highly competitive, with companies competing for top positions in search results
  2. Strategic Partnerships: TAC helps secure key partnerships that limit competitor market share
  3. Financial Resources: Companies with greater financial resources can secure more advantageous partnerships through higher TAC payments

Industry-Wide Implications

Broader Context

  1. User Acquisition Strategies: TAC represents just one approach in the broader landscape of user acquisition strategies, including:
    • SEO optimization
    • Social media marketing
    • Paid advertising
    • Content marketing

Legal and Regulatory Scrutiny

The scale of these payments has attracted regulatory attention:

  • The U.S. Department of Justice views these agreements as potentially anticompetitive
  • Ongoing antitrust trials could affect how these agreements are structured in the future

Why This Matters

  1. Industry Dynamics: The massive TAC figures demonstrate the intense competition for user traffic in the digital age
  2. Business Model Impact: TAC significantly affects Google's cost structure and profit margins
  3. Market Power: The ability to pay such large amounts for traffic acquisition creates barriers to entry for potential competitors
  4. Future Implications: With increasing regulatory scrutiny and growing costs, the sustainability of this model may face challenges

This context helps explain why a seemingly straightforward expense item has become a crucial aspect of modern digital business strategy and competition.

# short narwhal Heard the 3rd person view complain a lott, kinda sucks they pivoted to an extrac...

For me it mostly depends on the game. For games like CS, PUBG etc - I can't stand 3rd person.
For deadlock - I hated it until I played the first game. Then I didn't care at all - it was too good and too fun.
I avoided buying Helldivers for a few weeks but finally caved. 3rd person was not an issue at all.

But what does Helldivers and deadlock have in common? They are not 100% aim based games. One is not even PvP. There is so much else going on that it's not really a problem.

Arc seems more PvP focused than Helldivers and deadlock which is why I think I might not like it. But I have access and haven't tried it which is just stupid 😛

💯 . There's one of the reasons I download most public LLM releases locally and save them on my servers.
In a near future - most LLM access will be restricted and the only unrestricted access we will have is those first iterations of LLM's that's pure and clean.

And in that future, I will help everyone else to share those on various channels (p2p).

You mean even the open source ones will be restricted?

Today. Yes.
But OpenAI, Perplexity, all others will be bashed by the US/EU legislation and forced to enforce censorship. At that point it time, only the first R1 models will be useful and unless we all dowload them locally, it will be harder and harder to get access to them.

Grok and Gemini research next

distant aurora
#

Just so you know, deepsearch quality depends on the internal instructions.

#

You can get better results with a weaker model and vice versa.

#

And it's counterproductive outside research.

warm perch
#

ye i tried making this unbias so i used temporary chats and stuff and tried giving no context to make it hard

warm perch
distant aurora
#

There's no mention of what domains your test included.

#

How perplexity deepsearch scored better than open ai deepsearch is beyond me.

#

In any case.

#

Gpt 4 scoring higher than Deepseek v3 is another questionable thing here.

#

Same with 4.1 mini scoring higher than 4.1

warm perch
#

i dont know either tbh but to me what was most suprising was how bad gemini 2.5 pro did (the non io version)

#

4.5 did terrible too

distant aurora
#

Gemini 2.5 flash is way better than qwen 2.5 max think.

warm perch
#

personally i agree with the top like 6

#

O4 mini high > r1

#

Even O3 mini high was slightly better than R1.

warm perch
#

it scored the same but tbh it is way better, i do think it o4 mini was a bit lazy, like it didnt check its answer well enough before answering always it seemed

#

i had deepseek thinking for like 10 minutes

distant aurora
#

I'm surprised you didn't include Claude.

#

Wait. You did.

#

Is that think or normal?

warm perch
#

i didnt have access to think i just used normal, i know perplexity offers it but it felt super weird and was acting weirdly through perplexity

#

ill try it again if it works fine i will test it
