enshrouded has systems already in place, and a story to follow. It's not about running DnD in a video game, it's about the spirit of DnD. You form a party, RP your characters, and create fun stories and memories with friends. Focus on building proper homes, maybe even towns... You are rebuilding this world, you have a connection to the flame that has given you, and what remains of humankind, hope. There are a few others like you, memories of past are sparse, but each person slowly begins to remember their story as the flame is strengthened and the shroud is driven back.

If i'm going to RP, I want depth and dedication(just a 2-4 times a month schedule). I was given the honor to build the first Riverrun in GoTRP and my character was Lord Tully. Prior to that we broke off from Gondor in LotRP and worked together to form a new faction that they made official the following season. It's all about stories. My first RP experience I ran into the nastiest Orc RPer to ever bless the game. It had me nervous, sweating, hell I even had to perma the character because my character couldn't come back from that. But none of it crossed any lines or ever made me feel uncomfortable or truly forced, but the RP was so intense that I went with what made the best end to the story. Then got to start new stories after whitelisting a new character 🙂

the thing about doing it in a game, especially one with a pretty solid progression of events and lots of little tidbits throughout, is that the creativity is not focused on the campaign but the players.

My vision is something like this

  • Log on when you wish, adventure as you wish, RP not required
  • If you want to RP just use the local text chat as your "in character" chat
  • Adopt a persona and interact as them by doing that local text RP
  • Use something like Discord to share and update your character's history and accomplishments and pacts
  • No required post size or session length - relaxed for people having different RL availability and writing styles.
  • Occasional scheduled and themed events that utilize in game settings and skills (music around the campfire, establishing a new base, storytelling nights, talent show, friendly competitions to navigate or slay or achieve something)
  • All the above as a pretext to growing into friends out of character and helping with in-game progress

I have met a couple awesome groups of nice folks, but have been discouraged by the fact that almost everyone seems to have different ideas of what they want to progress and at what speed, neither of which have to do with role play. Right now I'm just looking for something RP-focused. Like let me be my character, let us figure out why there are multiple Flameborns, let us RP before and after questing together (and during, albeit not in a way that slows things down), let us have an in-character vision for what we build and where, that kind of stuff. To play my character(s) in a place where others play theirs, that's the dream. Maybe even with sharable backstories (via Discord?) and character motivations we can help out others with? 🫣
