Ok. Windows didn't eat the folder.

Start the game, do the reset, change "whatever" and check the timestamp on the file again.

in admin reset it, change some settings then check close the game and check timestamp of the file

Rightclick on it and "properties".

At the bottom there's something like "atribute" or so with a marked box before "write protection" (or something similar).

Remove the mark and click on apply.

while looking into it, open cmd with admin and run
DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /CheckHealth
after thats done run
sfc /scannow

second one will take a while so run that in the background

If it still doesn't save: Do the same (rightlick -> properties...) on the Enshrouded folder inside "Saved games".

for my work i had to migrate exchange 2009 to exchange 2019 a few years ago that was a hell. In the end had to migrate it 2009 -> 2012 -> 2016 -> 2019

2009 -> 2016 not possible due to forest lvl
2012 -> 2019 exchange cant be runned side by side to migrate

Not that old for "2009"-versions of things but sometimes things are just "not very good" (to put it friendly) when it comes to windows.

Although depending on what might have caused the issue with the settings files windows might be able to repair it. I heard they became pretty good at that part.

and ngl if we cant find the problem my problem is something I can live with small inconvenience
