#Shadowtiger2068 - crashing issue

Okay. @rigid swallow - so cross mentioned that you reinstalled the driver, used the Enshrouded Toolfix, Verified your game files in steam, and renamed an XeSS file?
Yes
Sorry you guys were talking for quite sometime, can you explain what is happening? When you crash is it always in the same spot, is it just crashing the game or is it taking your system along with it? Is there anything else notable when you crash?
Its not a specific spot, sometimes it crashes just starting, crashes loading up the game, crashes during fast travel or can crash just running around the map and its taking my pc with it. Once it crashes or i have to force stop it. I cant access any of my other games or do anything really, i have to restart my pc
Okay, so the whole system freezes?
In a sense yes. Like i can move my mouse and stuff but nothing works
Like when i had to force close it once i couldnt even paste the log or send it in discord on my pc
Okay - that lines up with the lack of a crash error in the log.
Have you run any monitoring software (other than task manager) while this is happening at all? like GPU-Z or HWMonitor?
Yeah, i had no problems with this game at all from beta to launce. I got almost 100hrs into it then the major updates of the swamp and mountains came through and bam nothing. No just the task manager. I have nividia app would shows some of my stuff running like gpu clock and all that
I just downloaded the gpuz one
Yeah lets try and rule out and hardware overload or cooling issues
Ok
Also - when you reinstalled your driver - did you use DDU?
Im gonna be honest i have no idea what DDU means. only thing i have done with my driver since i built the pc was update them.
Ive uninstalled the game a few times
Im srry, im very much a beginner in the pc world so alot of this goes over my head
Okay. run the game with GPU-Z first and keep an eye on the temperatures and loads.
The GPU should be sitting at below 85–87 °C and be at 85%-100% utilization. The video memory should not be sitting at or close to 12gb
The CPU should be below 100 °C, ideally below 80–95 °C
Will that be if i make it into the game or just in general when i try and launch it
the whole time from when you start the game to when you crash.
It crashed right after the keen logo popped up
Temps were fine the gpu load hit 11% at crash
I can not
This is what pops up
The drive its loaded on instantly stops working
Id have to restart the pc and see if it toom that log
So your computer is still running after the crash, but the drive itself seems to have crashed?
okay - so the problem sounds like it's in the storage drive itself. I am assuming windows is on a different drive?
yes it is. i have a ssd for the operating system and a second ssd for my games and stuff
thing is this is the only game that does that. all other games i have installed play fine with no crashes or anything
ive downloaded it on my op system drive and it did it and i tried a external drive and it still did it
So when you had it on your OS drive it crashed the C: drive?
yeah
Okay... Your external drive, does it have it's own power cable?
okay. Can you unplug the external drive from your system and try again?
ive had them unplugged
Hmm. It's kinda acting like a PSU issue, but PSU issues kinda act like other issues as well... it gets kinda foggy here.
the PSU is the Power Supply Unit. It regulated the power that goes to every component on your computer. Most prebuilt systems usually only have a PSU that has enough power capacity to run the stuff they have in the computer, so adding more hard drives or other things that draw power from your PC like phone charging cables, or other things that don't have their own separate power cables could start to cause intermittent issues when the computer is being used intensively.
And Enshrouded does that for sure.
As I said though - PSU issues are very hard to nail down as it can also look like a lot of other issues.
So this isnt a pre built pc. I actually got all new components for a newer pc and only took the ssd, graphics card and the pc i took those from i actually upgraded the psu when i bought it because of reviews said the psu that came with the prebuilt was kinda weak
Hopefully that makes sense lol
could you toss me the amazon link to it?
there are a few thermaltake 700w units and they make a huge difference
Incorporating various high-quality components, the Smart Series - models are rated from 500W to 700W - saves energy through its high efficiency of up to 86% and accommodates any mainstream build with the most demanding requirements. An embedded intelligent cooling fan delivers excellent airflow a...
Like 95% sure it is this one
Okay - so if it is this one... It's possible that this is the problem. This is a budget PSU and the reviews show a low reliability at higher loads.
Again, I can't guarantee this is the issue, but with your system build it does track with the drive shut downs.
May i ask though, wouldn't i have this problem more with my higher end games i play like ready or not and stuff like that?
It really depends. Every game accesses your components differently, and Enshrouded is quite resource intensive because it's a voxel-based building game still in development. The updates they made in update 5 and 6 had a huge impact on a lot of systems with entirely new areas and complete graphics overhauls.
You can try running stress tests to see if it shows anything, but the more you add to that specific PSU, the less stable it will become. When you rebuild or it comes time to upgrade, I would suggest getting a PSU that is "gold level" or above - especially for gaming systems.
Right now you can try limiting your GPU usage by setting it's power limit to 70% and limiting the FPS in the game (through the NVidia App), turning off any RGB and unplugging pretty much all your USB stuff to see if it helps. A powered USB hub may also help if you have a lot of USB components attached.
Ok, ill just go grab a new psu cause that probably isnt a bad idea
I really really appreciate everything youve tried helping me with
I do hope it's the issue - I can't stress enough how much of a PITA diagnosing PSU issues is though - if not, it's not a bad idea to get a gold level PSU anyway, especially if it's primarily a gaming rig.
Thank u
psu? damn, wouldnt have crossed my mind - told you she smart af xD
Lol right
