It may have something to do with Steam's profanity filter, but it seems unclear as to how to disable it.

okay lol my friend can chat so i went into her setting and copied how hers was set up so im hoping back in now to see if it works

Okay - FOUND it. in a likely unlikely location.

Open up your steam and click on your profile name and go to "account details" then "Store Preferences"

In the third section down, named "Community Content Preferences" can you click "Do not filter strong profanity or slurs"

okay... Lets see if clearing the chat cache might help. Go into Steam > Settings > Downloads and click "clear cache" next to "clear download cache" after that head over to C:\Users\<YourName>\AppData\Local\Steam\htmlcache and delete the folder. Also head over to C:\Users\<YourName>\AppData\Roaming\Steam and look for any chathistory or cached folders as well and remove them.

If that doesn't work, I am gonna forward this on to the QA team at Keen and see if they have any idea. Granted they are swamped right now (and it's the middle of the night) so it may be some time before they can get back. but they will most likely have a lot more insight.

There must have been some corruption in the character file that happened. That is crazy, I wouldn't have thought thre was anything text related in the character file.

ah gotcha. Okay sorry - to get to your save files navigate to ..\Program Files (x86)\Steam\userdata\[YourSteamID]\1203620\remote and zip up the entire contents of that folder and you can drag and drop it in here.

if you open up steam and go to your friends list and hit the + button to add friends, you should have a "friend code" that should be your ID

Sorry about the delayed response. went to go eat dinner.
Unfortunately no. I know one person who got it using a cheat engine, but since it's only meant for those doors and not made for us, they still only open at night and always require a spark to open. lol 😄
