For anyone experiencing map data loss and glitching similar this image. If you could please explain what you were doing when this occurred and Zip up your save data located in one of the folders below (Before following the instructions below) and drag and drop it in this thread, so the Devs can track down and hopefully fix this issue.
#Character Save Corruption Megathread

Please note, if the map just has pinstriping but the fog of war still remains uncovered, this is a separate issue and the following fix will not help.

2 threads that I made today about the issue
THE FIX:
please make sure you already zipped up your save data and put it in this thread before continuing
This issue is caused by a character save corruption that has been happening to some people.
To fix the map, you are going to have to roll back your character save to a point before that happened.
Unfortunately - if you do not have any backup that is from before the issue, there is no fix for it at this time.
HOW TO REVERT YOUR SAVES:
Your save files are located in one of these two folders, depending on if you have steam's cloud saves turned on -
For local save files:
..\Users\%username%\Saved Games\Enshrouded
For cloud save files:
..\Program Files (x86)\Steam\userdata\[YourSteamID]\1203620\remote
YourSteamID is your unique Steam ID number
- Make sure the game is closed and locate the folder with your save files and make a copy of the folder on your desktop for backup, and to make sure your files do not get overwritten.
- Look for the files titled "characters" there should be 10 of them in total, named "characters" "characters-1" "characters-2" and so on up to 9. In those files look for one with a date stamp that is from before when the issue started, and note the number after the -
- Open up the file named "characters-index" in notepad. You should see something that looks like this:
{ "latest": 6, "time": 1735038057, "deleted": false } - Replace the number after
"latest:"with the number you noted from earlier. so if the save file you want to load is "characters-3" it should now look like this:
{ "latest": 3, "time": 1735038057, "deleted": false } - Save the text file and close notepad.
Open up the game and check to make sure the issue has been fixed. If not, you may have to go to a backup with an older timestamp.
I have noticed a pattern with this issue, and it does seem to happen for some people when they make changes to their game settings.
If you can please mention if this issue happened after a graphics settings change, and which change you made if it did, this information could also be very helpful. I would also suggest trying to not make any more settings changes once you get the issue fixed, until the devs can discover what is going on and fix it.
'characters-5' is still set as latest here which had the map issue. Hope this helps!
same issue, map is pinstriped - changed FSR settings and point shadow
Was in my Display settings. Set display settings to max quality preset. Whole game went black. Went back into settings and reset back to performance preset. Began adjusting settings individually. Went back to playing and then checked the map. Map gone bonkers.
pulling up a chair in here until this is fixed
i truly wonder how that can even happen or why mapdata is stored in such a way that its affected by graphic settings
I come bearing gifts, the map glitch caught red handed! Sorry for the crop, I was using lossless scaling (settings included), and I was running the Brave browser playing a 1080p video not in fullscreen on my second monitor. I had not changed any graphics settings since before I restored my save following the guide. Also I'm running GG Sonar which captured the video
Also please try not to laugh at my pathetic attempts to jump out of a hole ๐
wait no that's a different glitch
is your map glitched out like you can see at the top?
@zenith gate Yeah that is the first time I had a graphical glitch before seeing the map fog come back.. I've already reverted to another save, I didn't look at the rest of the map, sorry! Here's the save file though, it should be 'characters-2'
Oh also should have clarified, the map is shown to be fogged at the very end of the video but it did not have the pixelated markings over it like usual on the map area in the video
sorry the video quality didn't really allow me to see the map clearly
No worries, I know you guys need as many details as possible, and I don't know what's might be relevant to your debugging so I had Sonar lower the quality until the whole clip was 10MB (no nitro!). Here's a shorter HQ clip if you need it. It may be relevant though that the map was only fogged, without the pixelated blemishes ?
im brazilian
Has anyone figured out how to solve this problem????

I can send the game files if needed
But I need someone to guide me to this
When will you fix it? What are the authorities doing? Should I play like this?
They are looking into it, hence the thread requesting information. ๐
i have a sort of workaround for corrupted maps
that was my map from before, and after - https://www.nexusmods.com/enshrouded/mods/32
- it might not be a "fair" workaround given its a cheat-engine table, but it makes the map at least readable again and I didn't find anything in the rules against it.

Nothing in the rules against it no. Just be careful. because the game doesn't currently support mods, it is possible that mods could corrupt saves or make it so that the save can not be run without the mod. Not saying this one will, just to be cautious of any mods, and to make backups of your save files before using them.
yeah its not technically a mod but a script that manipulates the running game to think i have cleaned the map from all fog. It does run without it just fine. If nothing else helps and the map is else unreadable and ruins the gameplay, id say its a worthy tradeoff.
if does NOT reveal locations interestingly. Just eliminates the fog that gets corrupted
have same issue
I sent the requested files, and that's what I can do now
I was very tempted to use the temporary "solution" from my friend @copper sequoia
but I think it's safer to wait
where i should put this file https://www.nexusmods.com/enshrouded/mods/32
I have no idea. I don't use mods. I am sure they have instructions on their page there somewhere.
Checking in with everyone @here to see if you guys are still having this issue after the patch.
Not yet, thanks very much! The remnants of an old glitch where I didn't restore my save are still there, all the pixelated patterns, I'm not sure there's a way to fix that without refreshing or wiping the whole fog but it's nowhere near a game breaking issue!
Yeah - I think if the corruption was already there, there is no way any update would repair that, due to it being in your save file
i can also confirm i have still the same issue with the map being corrupted.
Did you just have the issue start or has the map been like that since before the patch?
was just before the patch it happend combined with crashes etc
crashing is mostly fixed better at least but corruption is not
Yeah, As I mentioned, If you already have a corruption with your map that was unable to be rolled back, it's not something that can be fixed via a patch. It's inside your character save files, which I do not believe they modify on updates, patches or hotfixes.
yea perhaps i need to look for some cheat that allows me to uncover stuff so i can regain it back easily idk if the devs even have a tool for this
The devs don't, but I believe someone posted something above about a cheat engine. Just be careful how you use it. Mods aren't supported and things can go wrong with any mod.
yea im still thinking about it, i spend around a 100 hours on that char so idk if i should just redo the map by hand or not or leave it fragmented as it is...
Before I knew the fix to jump back a save, I rediscovered the whole map, I just went to different spires and glided N, NE, E, SE, S etc. in a straight line to get things going, eventually it didn't bother me much and ended up uncovering it all again ๐ It helps if you're an excessive map marker maker
